I cried so much watching this.. it’s the closure I didn’t know that I needed and I’m grieving the loss of the past with you Martina. It feels nice to genuinely mourn the loss of this channel after so many years of watching you guys. And I’m proud of you. I’m so proud. I’ve started watching all of the king kogi videos and it gives me the same nostalgia as the EYK videos did. And I want to thank you for that. I look up to you so much for the strength and dedication you have.

I wanna feel for Martina but the way she quietly paints Simon as an awful person for wanting to post here makes me extremely uncomfortable. Couples share businesses all the time and they both could've used the name to benefit them both, but Martina doesn't want to compromise at all. Imagine if all brands did this when relationships fell apart my lord... It's childish and immature tbh.
@mzj76992 жыл бұрын
@@Luminousmorrow i cant be the only one who thinks Martina was being v careful with her words and not "quietly painting Simon as an awful person" as you have claimed. What i saw was her explaining objectively how and why her time in contributing to EYK channel has come to an end. In doing so it mightve highlighted some unexpected actions from Simon, which was only fair because it contributed to her reason of leaving. I say its fair because she never did it in a way to stir things up, only for things to settle down. Both of them have gone thru so much individually these past few years, and aft thinking abt it all, seeing how u called Martina's actions "childish and immature" only explains how little u know about EYK content and the importance it serves to the EYK community. Sir, u cant just expect NIKE or Adidas to go thru a major mess and then not be uncomfortable/questioning when it starts to showcase n promote Chinese medicine. Like whaaat?

@@Luminousmorrow I think if you check out King Kogi you can see who the driving force behind the creativity EYK Studios is/was tbh. Like the exciting fun things Martina is doing over there VS... book club. I don't think it's on brand and tbh Simon uploading stuff getting 10k views is an indication what the audience wants vs King Kogi thriving. Wanting an archive of a past life honestly would be the best bet, but as what's happening here. Simon now owns it(?) -since Martina is done here - and is uploading nonrelated stuff. I'd be upset too if it felt like my 10+ life long baby is just... not being 'ruined' but not on par of how you want it to be left. He can go run his book club on his own page. Martinas stuff is still related to EYK so I don't see anything wrong with her doing shorts ect. Just my two cents but IMO I don't think it's fair this is the result of EYK studios is that unrelated content is being uploaded by one party and not really respecting that it's over and could become a perfect archive/time capsule.

You said ‘if I’m going to die anyway, I might as well do the things I like before I go’ (paraphrased as it was a very long time ago). This literally saved my life. I still take time each year to list films coming out, games launching and places I want to visit that year as ‘things to do before….’ Anyway, I’m still here cause of that. Thank you x

I was going through a very hard time when I happened upon EYK. I had been homeless and had just moved into an apartment and had a lot of trauma to sort through. Things were really rough and the future was frightening. EYK was the thing that helped me feel less alone, and I knew I could look forward to coming back to KZbin after a hard day of uncertainty and find you here making me laugh and teaching me about a world so far outside my own. It gave me hope that there were infinite paths outside the isolation I was experiencing, and that I could maybe actually possibly be okay someday. I know this sounds silly but the way you were so quirky and weird and had carved your own life for yourselves where you could shine, that meant so much to me as a weirdo myself haha. I didn’t feel like any of the standard life paths seemed to fit me, nor did I really desire them. So seeing EYK being unapologetically YOU was what I needed so desperately. If it was okay for you to be yourselves, then I could be me. I’m rambling but thanks for what you did, and I want to stress that ultimately the biggest thing you did and the biggest service you offered (and continue to offer) the world is being yourselves. I guess that’s what I’m struggling to communicate here. I look forward to seeing where your journey takes you from here. Thanks for sharing with us.

You're 100% right, Martina. Your initial vision for the future of this channel, and the progress of your own, is how it should have been. That's the classy/dignified way for EYK to continue to exist as an archive of videos that people can come back to enjoy again and again. That's the way it SHOULD be, but as you said, it's not possible to control what others do. "It's the ones who can't let go - of fear or anger, lust or greed, vanity or pride or power - who are most at risk of becoming corrupted...." You've chosen to remain uncorrupted, Martina. It is so strange how Eat Your Kimchi has been such a big part of my life. I remember finding you with your "How to dance K-pop" video. I, of course, was looking for a tutorial on how to dance K-POP. But, oh boy, did I find so much more. You opened my eyes to everything else that Korea had to offer. I have so many amazing memories of this channel, inside jokes I share with my friends to this day, visiting the You Are Here cafe and even appearing in one of the videos made there, making fan-art of you and even having it featured in one of your videos, keeping always "Build a ladder" on my mind on those rough days....and so much more. Legit without Eat Your Kimchi, I wouldn't be living in Korea right now. And now here I am making plans to move to Japan. Haha. My point is, as much as this channel has been a GIANT part of my life, I can't even begin to imagine what it means to you. I just want to take this opportunity to thank you for everything, and I truly am so grateful for the amazing things that this channel has given me throughout the years. And I truly, from the bottom of my heart wish you the biggest of happiness. May your life be blessed with as much happiness as you have given to the world. And as you said, this is not a good bye, this is a thank you, and a see you later. I'm so exited for what is to come as now the King Kogi Kingdom is going to be the new chapter of my EYK love, not a replacement but a new beginning. @@Haerinx87 it was 2009, so the Internet wasn't as robust. Facebook had barely taken off, there weren't even many smart phones in the US. Google was a thing, but the expat groups and stuff online to help were scarce af. Even EYK hadn't really taken off yet, Simon and Martina were just English teachers like we were. They shared their experience online though, which was pretty novel at the time. It was the era of blogs, youtube was a lot of home movies, DIY help, and obscure comedy. We felt so lucky to find their channel, it helped us get to Costco too lol They just did a quick video on what the different buttons meant and helped me actually start the washing machine for the first time. It felt very big 😂 They were one of so few resources at the time, every video they did back then was wildly helpful to us in a second tier city with many fewer resources than Seoul.

You guys are absolutely allowed to continue on with your lives, as well as your online presence, in WHATEVER way feels healthiest to you. I think taking a step back from your personal lives is totally valid. I can't even imagine going through all of this *online*. Know that you are loved and cherished. I wish you both all the best on your new, separate journeys.

And with that, I’m unsubbing. I unsubscribed when you said you were departing the channel before, but then you made the choice to make some new posts on here, I subscribed again. But if you’re making the choice to no longer post here, then I’ll permanently unsubscribe. I have been following, since the start of the channel, and I was here almost entirely for YOU, especially when I found out our disabilities aligned. You’ve helped me through so much, and I know for a fact that without you, specifically YOU, Martina, I would be dead. There’s no question of that. I followed KingKogi as soon as you put that up, and I’m happily on the Patreon. You’re a light and joy in this world, and I’ll always follow your journey, and support you. 💗 Goodbye, EYK. It’s been fun.

Thank you for all the memories. I've been subscribed to King Kogi since you made the channel and have been a viewer ever since. EYK has been in my life since I was 12 and going through the height of my parents divorce. You guys brought me comfort during those hard times, and now almost 10 years later (wow my bones are cracking) you continue to bring me comfort and joy. I hope you both know how much we love and support you, even if we're not tuning into the content of one of you. Thank you for this wonderful journey and I can't wait to see what the future brings us

It's hard for me to figure out why this gives so much relief but it does... Thank you Martina, for letting this part of your journey go. I've watched Eatyourkimchi since the time when you were both in Buchon and one of you had stopped being a teacher to focus on YT until the other could follow. There has been so much warmth, joy and discovery that has come from this channel and I will always remember that. Thank you both for the good times - see you soon on King Kogi xxx

Thank you for being so vulnerable and sharing so much of your lives with us. You didn't have to, but it was so fun. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I started following this channel at a time when it was seen as weird to be a kpop fan...esp here in Texas. It gave me a safe space to not feel so alone. And you guys even got my mom to broaden her mind & start to understand why I loved kpop as well as why I was so interested in Korean culture. So I will forever be grateful for the fact you 2 decided to share your lives & take us on so many adventures. Breaks me heart that things ended the way they did but I'm glad to see everyone thriving. While goodbyes always hurt..I definitely agree this page should end on the most positive vibes that it can so we all can have a save place to come back to whenever we wanna remember the good old days.

I cannot express how much of an influence EYK was on my adolescent years and my love for Korean culture. I don’t even think I would have become such a die hard SHINee fan if it wasn’t for this channel and here I am literally 10 years later still following the group and watching k dramas on Netflix now! I remember when there weren’t K BBQ restaurants or any Korean restaurants near me. EYK was such a safe and happy place for young people like me to expand their worldview and learn about new cultures. Thank you, Martina. I appreciate and support your new journey!

Love you Martina. I went through one divorce with a child and it was the hardest thing I've ever been through. I can't imagine having something shared and having to hear things like this pop up. I started watching you and Simon 12 years ago when I was in college because I MISS Korea so much (my family is there&tickets are expensive). And I loved the old content. When you and Simon divorced it was when I was planning my wedding and I got so scared of getting remarried. I cried with you. I'm sorry things didn't go as you hoped, but like you said you can't control someone else's behavior, and you need to do what is best for you. &Simon, if you read this. Just know I'm praying for both of you to come to a time of peace. Ik you're both still hurting. &I'm praying God takes whatever past hurt their may be and restores you both.

@@Iheartfairytail3 he’s just been posting videos here that are completely mismatched to what EYK is about. He has his own channel, but he seemed to be using this channel’s size for his own, new thing. A lot of comments were asking him not to post non EYK related stuff and to keep the channel as an archive, but I don’t think he cares to do that. A channel with 1.2M subscribers is a hard thing to let go of, but also it felt kind of scuzzy that he doesn’t seem to acknowledge what the community wants for the channel. We didn’t come here for book reviews or mindfulness or whatever he was posting.
