in bulgaria we also have this thing with the shoes but it's not just for high heels but for any shoes and not only for girls. like, if you buy someone shoes, they will leave you. and also, a very funny one - if someone's cleaning with a broom around you and the broom accidentally touches you, you won't get married (refers just to girls). my mum and my grandma always used this so i would get out of their way while cleaning. :D and another weird one - if a cat or a hen jumps over your dead body, you'll turn into a vampire.

I remember this one Filipino superstition regarding to funerals (I'm Canadian Filipino). My mom would tell my brother and me that once we get home from a funeral, we would have to enter the house through the back door so as not to bring the spirit of the deceased we had just seen. As soon as we get in the house, we take off all of our clothes (because apparently the "essence" of the dead were stuck to them while we were in the funeral parlour), and take a shower (again, with the "essence" of the dead). I've never really questioned as to why its like that, but I've never gotten the chance to because funerals occurred rarely with me.

My grandma and mom told me not to whistle at night because it calls the ghosts and demons. Another one is to not let babies or toddlers, or children look outside the window at night, or they'll see a ghost. And the last one, is to not play hide and seek at night or else you'll see a shadow or figure around the house while you're hiding, or while you're looking. They sound ridiculous, but I still don't whistle at night, and I don't let my little brother play hide and seek at night.

In Russia, if you break a plate or cup or any other piece of china it's considered to be foreshadowing good luck/happiness! Also if you say something that you don't want to happen, you spit over your left shoulder three times (it's kind of the equivalent of knocking on wood). One that I find weird is to not hand over anything through your main doorway, so like if you want to give someone a hat when you're in the house and the person is outside. My favourite one is if you have two people with the same names, you stand in between them and hold their hands and your wish will come true!

In France there goes a saying that you should never have 13 people dinning together, never walk under a ladder, crossing path with a black cat is bad luck, if you spilt salt on the table you have to throw some behind your back to avoid bad luck, breaking a mirror brings you 7 years of bad luck. well, these are the most commune. Puerto Ricans have Tuesday the 13th (ooh spoopy) thought with Americanization we include Friday the 13th as well. Just as well, no black cats, don't go under ladders, and brooms hold mighty powers, like upside down behind a door to get rid of unwelcomed guests, and some cases leaving you single for a while. For the new year, we throw a bucket of water out the door, letting out the old and welcoming the new year with a splash! Also, like the Spanish, eat 12 grapes! If that purse touches the floor you'll lose money, but to fix that, if your palms itch, don't scratch because money is coming your way. Take a shower in water of the first rainfall of May. My favorites though have to be La Llorona (the drowning ghost woman) is looking for more children to take at every river, every fall, every lake, etc., the chupacabra is getting all your livestock, and el Cucuy (the Latino version of the boogieman). And maybe it's just my family being optimistic, but if you are peed on (ex: changing baby sibling) or occasionally get poop on you (though /definitely/ no one encourages it), it is said to be good luck.

spiesvsidiots It might as well be a superstition since it's based on pseudoscience (meaning in this case that it twists what the actual science literature says and tries to make it seem like it's actually saying what they want it to) this is often used to sell diet books and programs. Exercise and eating right are important of course, but pairing two truths and a lie doesn't make the lie any more true. Eating at night doesn't *make* you fat anymore than not eating at night will *make* you skinny. Your entire lifestyle contributes.

Im from England so we have really similar superstitions but some of ours are that if you break a mirror you get 7 years of bad luck and another one is that you can't open a umbrella indoors as you would get bad luck. But I was watching after school club and they opened an umbrella inside so I was wondering do they have this superstition in korea?

My grandma's Filipina and she had a couple superstitions I observed growing up: 1) When you enter a new house, salt and rice should be the first things to enter for good luck. 2) Don't sleep with your hair wet or you'll go blind. 3) For New Year's, it's good luck to have 21 (I think? I can't remember the exact number) different fruits in a bowl. 4) For New Year's, my grandparents also throw coins all around the house for good luck and to banish bad spirits. 5) She never liked me opening up umbrellas in the house 'cause she told me centipedes would fall out of it onto me. When I asked her where she heard it too, she just said "Idk, that's what my mom told me" like she didn't even really believe it. xD

OMG what happened at Simon's sister wedding with the rain, happened at TWO of my cousins weddings and they were a week apart. Sunshine everyday, all day in Raro until it got to the wedding days. Where it just happens to pour with rain haha

The raining on the wedding is universal I think. I've heard that one here in North America, as well as the Philippines.

About 4: Chinese characters (Hanzi) were originally used in Korean called Hanja. As far as I know it's mostly in Chinese characters used in Japanese (Kanji), which has two readings for 四 (On reading (Chinese origin): Shi, Kun reading (Japanese origin): Yon). It is associated with the verb 死ぬ (shi nu (to die)). Therefore, it's more common to say 'yon'.

Martina's sweater looks super comfy, anyone know where it's from? And to stay on topic, in my part of Canada, if you step on a daddy long leg (type of spider) then it's going to rain.
