My last run wasn't even valid because playing online is not allowed and, even though I did not receive help from anyone, this is illegal. I decided to try speedrunning Ds1 Remastered a few days ago, but I am doing it glitch-less. (Depending on how you view the Anor Londo skip and quiting out during Bed of Chaos to skip the dangerous parkour.) It obviously isn't as fast as the glitched routes, but I find it really enjoyable. (The basics of it, and how it's going for those interested below) My route is built on pumping up the reinforced club to +14 as fast as possible, buying 25+ charcoal pine resins to last the entire game, then rushing through every mandatory game event as fast as possible. I save the Golden Pine Resins for the Gargoyles, Capre Demon, and Qualaag. (I may stop using it on Capre though and start saving it for Seath instead.) My first ever run I felt meh about, but my friends were amazed to hear I beat it in 3h 29m. My 2nd run was 3h 2m, I think I picked up time though in certain ways due to some mechanics I wasn't aware of, but my better routing and planning payed dividends. My 3rd rout is going to be about the same, but not nearly as greedy and I will be naked the ENTIRE time rather than some. May even settle for a +10 and see how that does, as normally +14 kills before 2 bleed procs with a couple exceptions. But the 2nd bleed proc likely will likely help carry the lost DPS. I'm hoping at least, as I'm still kind of experimenting. So if cutting out an entire grind session works, I'll be pretty happy. Just thinking of that, I likely can even cut out the Large shards from leeches as well by stocking souls and just buying em in Anor Londo. Only issue is that requires me to kill Sif later on, which could be a tad out of the way. But as another bonus, I won't have to worry about humanity except for Seath for his Curse antics. (as your humanity determines your curse resistance, and getting cursed would suck in a speedrun)

Thank you for doing this. I'm a pretty avid viewer of speedruns, but I've never really wanted to try them myself, as I thought they'd be wayyy to difficult. I thought I would need to sink literally thousands of hours into any game to even complete a speedrun. But you've shown me that the barrier of entry really isn't that high. Sure, if you want WR you're gonna need to sink considerable time into doing runs and practicing, but simply completing a run really isn't that bad. I might now actually take up casual speedrunning. Anyways, thanks.

I'm surprised this was the speedrun a year ago. To get 100% achievements you need to beat the game twice and so I learned a very simple trick where once you unlock the FIrelink Altar if you quit the game at a frame perfect moment, based on your storage device, when you load back you're on the other side of the door in the final area. No awful purple crystal trick required and the timing is significantly easier to learn. Can't imagine doing a speedrun with that crap trick especially since it requires so much extra stuff to even get it. Can just beat Anor Londo and bam you go to the final boss.

I use the sens fortress skip to get the covetus ring and hero soul. Then come back fuck up gargoyls with plus 5 uchigatana, then use covetus plus rusty ring to get some green titanite before killing qualagg. Then i can have a divine weapon against that purple blight guy with the skeletons

Memerolls "seem" difficult but they're literally free lol. Hardest part is calculating the perfect weight range but I assume for speed runs that's not an issue. Hell I memeroll in casual playthroughs to skip that part cuz I despise blight town

Only game's id say i've actually done a speed run of is the newer re2 and re3 remakes. It does take so many hours to master everything about the run, but hell it was worth it to watch my times drop drom 2hr+ to under one hr. Best i got was 51 mins on re2 glitchless and i was proud af.
