I remember I used to sleep with my door open as a kid, and outside my door it was kind of like a balcony type walkway into an open stairwell, so at night you would pretty much just be staring into the abyss past the railing. every night I would look into that abyss and imagine the dog from duck season climbing up the railing and attacking me. I think it lowkey traumatized me because this video was so hard to watch it actually scared me and I don't find any other popular horror game from back then scary in the slightest now.

In the other 2 bad endings the dog escapes through the TV into the real world if he breaks the TV in the boss fight and eliminates David if he stops the dog from breaking the TV but fails to stop him from killing him. Both occur if you shoot him. But in the nuke ending you don't have to shoot the dog to get it. So here it's possible to get the ending without giving the dog a reason to eliminate David.

I actually inspected the scene closer and caught a glimpse of what was actually going on. The dog walks over, crouches down and waves at him. He does the same thing when he traps David in the TV

The reason you struggled with the final ending and the VHS is that this game was designed for room-scale VR, your not supposed to be sitting a chair, your supposed to be literally sitting down on your floor like the kid is, which is why your too high up. Fun fact I'm one of the few people who had a massive room setup for the valve index's full tracking are, which let me actually walk around the house and even outside. There are secrets you can only find if you do this. Like some hidden messages and toys and such. One is in the room to the left, another behind the stairs, and one outside on the porch. It's also hilarious to watch the dog getting gunned down from outside. Or when he's recording you, you can walk outside and surprise him.

fears to fathom is another spooky game that has jumpscares but they're either just to get you worked up or because you died. the fear factor is very much there, especially with the knowledge that they're true stories and in every day places. spooky.

Duck Season is DEFINITELY an underrated game. Incredible horror build-up, old retro immersion. Even the way the game does the credits is unique in both the Nuke ending (w David/the player character) crying out the credits and the police officer in the best man ending reading off the names of the people who made the game as “victims” and the hidden secrets are so bizarre but charming. Would recommend Stress Level 0’s other games as well!

@@shrub8644 i think its because the story for duck seasons is mainly told from the perspective of a child whos playing a game featuring the mascot, so you dont really see the "marketable" corporate side of it. But the in game ads kinda mimics the old 90s commercials featuring the dog kinda like poppy playtime's ads. Also maybe because duck seasons as a game/franchise doesnt really market its 'mascot' as a mascot (not selling the dog guy as a cutesy mascot merch etc unlike hugsy or the fnaf charcters). Idk i think its because the dog guy is its own thing instead of a part of a corporation thing? That people dont really think its mascot horror. But to me it fits all the criteria of a mascot horror, just not a corporate mascot horror, more like "this one game cartridge has the soul of a serial killing dog in it" rather than "this mascot was made in a factory designed specifically to lure children to their death" kinda thing??? Idk its hard to explain lol

The dog is a cryptid. Basically gammon (company that made duck season in universe) tried to use the void to create a best selling game and outcompete Monogon (in universe creators of the Boneworks engine and MythOS), and unintentionally brought the dog into the real world from the voidway. The dog is not David's dad, this was confirmed false by devs a while back.

Yeah, he'll murder an entire family as retribution for a child harming him without the knowledge that he's sentient and he'll record you with a camcorder without your consent for... reasons? Bad reasons, reasons bad enough to probably justify calling him evil now that I think of it, but I wanted to note that he did have a reason for his actions because it seems that a lot of horror monsters just kill to kill; because they're the horror monster character that is supposed to chase and hunt the victim character. I thought it neat that he *actually has to be prevoked* to do anything. Now the camcorder is just kinda weird, uncalled for, and the fact that it can happen in a playthrough without provocation feels like the devs flat out forgot to make it dependent on the player's route.

My immediate theory is that maybe he was still deciding on whether or not to kill you. This is backed by the fact he recorded one of his victims in the hidden tape, and he still steals the knife. The way I experienced this game made it one of my best VR experiences ever. I had absolutely no idea what it was when it came out, I just saw that it was a top selling VR game about duck hunt and thought "ah cool i'll try it" without looking into it any futher.... safe to say, the part where the dog was at the sliding door took the life out of me, it just instantly shattered my assumptions of what the game was. 10/10, never felt so claustrophobic and helpless. only other time i've had this sort of blind experience (although not really horror) is with Outer Wilds.

The "best man" ending is my favorite ending by a long shot lol (and gotba few reasons) The 1st obviously being that the fog finally dies. It doesnt quite show it in the video but in a normal play through tbe dog will terrorize you for so many playthroughs and he'll probably kill you a lot. Its satisfying seeing the dog finally get what it deserved 🙏 2: I don't know if this was intentional or not, but the dog looks so f'ing panicked whe running away that it is so funny 😂 Unfortunately It may not be the "best ending" that it looks like at a first glance. The dog has much boxier and pixelized blood in the canon ending which shows that the dog truly died. We see the dog lived in both the game world and real world and chances are that if the dog was only killed in the real world, it still can live in the game world where the dog can then escape once again and go on his havoc streak. Eithet the canon ending or fiesta ending are the best, depending on if you prefer having a anomalous dog murder maniac let free or having your mom die.

I once pointed out how every single one of MatPat's theories was either wrong, or not even a theory because he was basically just rēading the wiki. Like good job "figuring" out that SMB3 is really a play, did the fact that it was presented as a play tip you off? Or was it the interview where Miyamoto said that the entire Mario cast was an acting troupe? The strangest part is he implies that _only_ SMB3 is fake, when the whole series is canonically non-canon, so his "theory" is technically wrong. Anyhow, on to the relevant portion. Someone was butthurt that I was "insulting" him but pointing out his faults, so I asked them to tell me which theory they thought was the best, had the most credibility. They sited this one. They literally sited "the Dog is your Dad" theory explicitly debunked by the devs themselves. I guess I shouldn't be too shocked... when Game Theory was trying to figure out Ash's father, they ended up choosing Giovanni, the _one single person_ that the Pokémon Company has confirmed that _it isn't._ Like, seriously, Jessie has a higher chance of being Ash's Dad at this point... advanced cloning _does_ work in that world.

Man, I remember watching MatPat playing this game on GTLive... had so much trouble seeing stuff at the top of the screen because of the setup, it was as if he was looking downward all the time. Still, seeing all of the crazy stuff hidden in the game was nuts. They did a good job setting up Boneworks, although I really wish they'd get the third game done, because it sounded like it would be absolutely insane. I recommend watching the Game Theory episodes on both Duck Season and Boneworks.

When I was younger, I was always terrified of literally any horror thing ever...but also simultaneously really wanted to watch these stories. I watched someone play this one and for like a full month after was scared shitless. I've recently been rewatching some of these to see if I still find them scary and rewatching this one I don't fully see why. A lot of it is just goofy as hell, like giant dog with lazer beams and the dog floating. Obviously if it was in VR it would be way worse.
