A friend of mine has just started playing bass guitar seriously, and I am trying to help him. He recommended this video and I can see why. There's no stupid slap and tickle baas at the beginning to show us what a brilliant player sits before us. Just a well-structured tutorial with clear and achievable aims for those who want to play bass guitar. Well done!

Thanks for the feedback! It’s all about making bass accessible without the showboating-just clear, practical steps for everyone to improve. Glad to hear the tutorial resonated with you and your friend. Keep helping each other on your bass journeys!

Been a gigging bassist awhile now and relatively new to country music (and I love it!). I've been getting by on instinct but never really learned details. Thanks to this vid of yours, I'm mastering these fundamentals. Thanks! And my p bass has same finish as yours but a black pick guard. Cheers!

Gotta love a P Bass with style-sounds like yours has a unique look with that black pickguard! Cheers, and keep up the awesome work!

Great lesson! Thanks! Country seems boring on the surface but it can get complex. Especially since overplaying can easily ruin a song. A good pocket player is rare. I'd like to see a part 2 of this vid. Thanks!

You're spot on-country bass can be deceptively tricky, and staying in the pocket is key.

I learned bass . as my 3rd instrument. Trumpet, French horn, then bass. Got a $50 bass and a beginner beginner book, so I read music for bass as well. Played in several rock cover bands. And a dance orchestra ,reading music is what got me the gig. Later, I played with a 3 piece county band. About 15 years ago, I started sitting in with a country bluegrass band playing 3/4 upright. I was a music education major on Trumpet from 1969 to 72, and I found out too many teachers, not any jobs, so dropped out and played professionally for several years. First time I heard Maserati, I was playing it, even but in the walk up from 1 to 5 that was on the record cause it felt right. LOL leader asked if I'd played it before told him that it was the first time I'd heard it. Good laugh. Helps knowing music theory. Suggestionon a 7th cord put the 7th on the one beat totally changes the feel of the sound. Think Elvis can't help falling in love with you. Keep up the good work

Thanks for sharing your journey-what a rich musical background! Thanks for the tip, and keep bringing that deep musical experience to every note you play! All the best!

Great lesson. Just a suggestion - if you could mention a popular song or two that uses each style it would be helpful so we can hear the lines in songs and practice with them. Thank you for all your great lessons.

I play a lot of country music here in West Virginia, USA mostly 1,5 beat.. For me this was the best lesson ever.

Fantastic and timely for me. We spend winters in the US far southwest so my ukulele groups play a bit of country, and there are many senior music jams that are strictly country.

James, thank you for introducing the "toolbox" concept in this video. I look forward to future additions to your toolbox. Does the 3rd train bass line that you introduced typically tie together with the drummer playing a train pattern similar to your backing track?
@ebassguitar2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! That drum pattern is a key component

Just found these amazing vlogs 🎉, quick question I do t play an instrument I’ve got 2 left hands 10 thumbs and tone deaf 😂 but I’m getting a Bass Ukulele because I just love the tone and have a love of Jazz. Someone handed me the Hal Leonard Bass Method complete edition, despite the shorter scale would this book work for the Ukulele Bass???
