Dude, a 1 Watt green laser would blow your mind when you turn it on, you can trust me on that... even a 500mW green laser would do the same thing. You would know straight away that it wasn't just 100mW.

I would also like to note that these 532nm lasers actually are using a much higher powered 808nm IR diode which cannot be seen by the human eye yet will do damage just the same. If this greenie kicked out 80mw it may have a 300-400mw 808nm diode driving the DPSS system and when dealing with these chinese lasers, they often dont bother to put in the necessary IR safety filters (known problem with even consumer level 5mw products) nevermind the fact they are almost guaranteed to skip the filter to maximize the total output so that it will have more effect or "burning potential". When it comes to these DPSS driven green lasers its a safe bet than anything above 200mw is bullshit, unless its very expensive and probably CO2 or something.

How much IR output does a true 1w green laser give?

By the time you pump the IR through the requisite KTiOPO4 and Nd:YVO4 crystals to produce a ~532nm wavelength (green) resultant output, it would be safe to say on a good day (moon, stars, ambient temp., crystal alignment and quality, divergence, power source, diode quality, expanding lens, collimating lens ...) your output will be about 15% of what your input is. So, a true 1W 532nm I suspect is less economical than a direct to green diode of 520nm at 1W which will run you a few hundreds - and be a "better" green. To do the math, and answer your question specifically, well, I am out of gas. You do the math: 15% of X = 1000 - and I am assuming you don't mean literally what you asked, which is how much IR output is present in the spectrum once frequency doubling occurs such where you actually end up with a total 1W 532nm and do not filter the remaining IR spectrum light. I don't exactly know, it would depend on many factors that I have never researched or measured, but I would say it would be enough IR to hurt your eye balls and possibly blind you, and you wouldn't even know its happening, until your head starts hurting and you start going blind.

Oh okay thanks, I'm guessing that IR light that escapes will be in a scattered form around the green laser beam right? And since its 15% that means its about 150mW, which means just by looking at the dot in the distance won't hurt, or am I wrong? Thanks. I was thinking about buying a 400mw green ebay laser but since I try my best to be a safety freak with lasers I might spend an extra dollar and get my self a good quality green laser with an IR filter installed.

it would help if you used the correct batteries. try 2 16340. my blue one uses these and its amazing. lights matches instantly out to 6 feet away. even got a video of it burning completely thru a flashlight in seconds on a dead battery... that 18650 you used is half the voltage of the two combined 16340s

The only thing buyers need to know it is that laser diodes got socalled inner value.(to some extend like gold etc) that meens if you got a green laser diode able to deliver fx 1000mW then it got some innervalue and doesnt matter if its second hand or new diode and th same goes for red or blue or violet. (its only the price there varies, hence supply and demand).. (from your other video about red laser, not delivering 1000mw) it doesnt really make sense if somebody purchase a 1000mw red laser for 25US delivered and whiining about the laser doesnt deliver 1000mw,.(for lets face it' it wouldnt take more then a few seconds to just check online and see that a LD able to deliver 1000mv retail in the red spectrum at least cost a hole lot more then that, just the 500mv and 700mv classified red diodes cost more then that.. (you aint gonna make an steal when it comes to high powered laser diodes and certainly not purchased retail-style, you are getting what your paying for (unless you end up paying 269US for an 40US blue laser pointer) but still a 200mw in such an nice looking gatling style host carrying an mitsubishi open can diode is certainly solid.(and it is an 200mw laser this pointer is promoted at at the more respuctable sellers on AliE, (check for yourself) some sellers is tacky and putting over spec stickers on there items,..but in the end they are only doing it, because there is stupid people eating there overspec-bs and thinkng they will get an 1000mw red laser pointer for +20US. (come on people' stop making them an lucrative market, in lack of knowledge and just take an second to examine there prices and what a 1000mw red laser diode is worth before you purchasing.! - . on the other hand maybe its good that people not knowing much about lasers aint are getting very strong laser diodes. anyway there will allways be scammers as long as there are customers to there scamming buiness. >)people doing buiness dont useally threw "gold" on the street and highpowered laser diodes is often expensiv and partically an red diode able to deliver 1000mv retail-style... ewen thow a open-can p73 will manage +1000mw and so will an oclaro hl63193 if they run hard, what retail sellers wouldnt' hence the risk for multiple disputes on DOA.) :-) thx for the video+ Anyway I purchase this green DPPS laser a year or two back and costed under 20bucks delvered to scandinavia (actually purchased two of the green) purchased the hole chananza of the gatling style lasers, and ewen thow the blue editions is of higher quality finish, they are all solid for there price,, a year or two back the green costed 17US and the RED 25US and the blue 40US delivered individually and that was years back. (I only purchased the lasers' I didnt wanted anything other craps, like cheap EU-AC220v-chargers there overcharge batteries to the insane, +4.25v or tacky trustfire batteries , comming in at 1/10 of capacity-scammmer-mah-spec and some strugling in delivering the amps.) That is the point of my video. Sellers are telling people that they can buy expensive high powered lasers for a really low price. I am just showing people that it is not always the case. Also, I am not whining about a laser being under powered. I just do not like deception in sales. It should be illegal to tell people they are getting one thing and delivering something else, just because people do not have the tools to measure the output. ITS BS

mca0824 it is illegal, as is importing anything over 4.99mW that hasn't met CDRH/FDA standards for safety, registration and so on. It's just not illegal in for example *cough*CHINA*cough*, and once you have obtained said laser (we won't say how), no matter the power, it is not actually illegal to possess at that point it's a sort of "gray area " A little note about the previous very long comment from someone who I am guessing English is not his first language I think he understood the purpose of this video more than he came off sounding like he just wanted to rant and for good reason about why this should be obvious you are highlighting a different aspect of this story by doing the service

That is probably a 5-40 mw laser. Fine for most uses. But I am sure it will not burn anything.

Not really. You may be able to get a pinpoint dot at a foot away. I like to burn stuff from 30 ft.

i have that same laser.. in red, green, and blue... and they all will burn things... but the blue laser is much brighter and burns things faster.. u must have weak battery's or something...

You expect it to be under 200mw, so didn't think you should need safety glasses? And what if you where wrong... For that matter even 20mw is 4x higher than what is considered "safe" but even so is only safe from indirect exposure. A spurious refraction could just happen to hit something reflective and just happen to align nicely with your retina. 200mw is definitely something to worry about. And finally, ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES because why not? AND especially on youtube where you should be promoting laser safety at all times, in hopes that kids dont adopt an arrogant attitude towards safety when dealing with even low-powered lasers. You must be an example.
