1) You can cancel the faux bidders if you think they are fake 2) you can end an auction at anytime but you would be charged the fee's at the value of of the highest bid 3) You have to put an "unpaid item strike" on a bidder if they do not pay.. if they get 3 of those strikes in 6 months.. they lose their account. (23 year ebay seller here, expert I guess lol)

the person deleted their comment but I wanted to answer the question anyway... they asked "how do you cancel their bids"... all sellers have the ability to cancel any bids on their items if they so choose.. buyers can also cancel their bids (in most categories not all) up to 12 hours before auction close. To know how to do this just google "cancel a bid on ebay"

Pete, EBay is rolling out a new procedure. They're going to make bidders give all their identification and card number before they bid on any particular auction. That way, if they don't pay Ebay will charge their card automatically if they win the auction. I think this will eliminate a lot of shenanigans on auctions.

Just like medical bills, a gym membership default or car loan or mortgage or payday loan, anytime you sign a promise to pay and then you don’t pay, it should hit your credit. That would at least cut this crap out for most Americans, cuz most ppl have at least a car loan, house mortgage, credit cards etc. and if you default, you can’t get any future financing and ur current loan rates jump up high. You would pay like $300,000 over 30 years on your house mortgage instead of $200,000 if your interest rate jumps from 5% to 9%. Not worth it to most and obv those idiots are just angry at Pete for not buying their shit or calling them out

You can filter out deadbeat bidders and since I started doing that, have not had a problem in years. The only caveat is they have to have at least 1 unpaid item strike against them.

Honestly, not as uncommon as you think. Pre-internet, it’s sort of what people did anyway. Post-internet, you still have people who prefer to go somewhere and have someone else take a look at things. I’m not sure what’s hard to understand about that. I’m not even sure it’s laziness all the time, just a sheer interest in actually doing something, getting out of the house. Some people, they just go places because it’s all they have. I’ve worked retail my entire adult life and you’d be amazed at the people or “regulars” who come to places, not with anything in mind to buy or shop for, but simply to get out and interact with people; or even if they don’t interact, they just aren’t alone, that’s the appeal. That may sound sad but it’s true, a lot of people just want somewhere to be, frankly.

I love your channel. Years ago one of my first jobs over the summer was working at a family friends pawn shop. I was 16. I learned so much about negotiation and how to resell items. This was around 1999-2000. My job was to organize all the inventory and work items onto the floor that came out of pawn. Hey Peter, I have seen personally a family member have sanctions placed on their account for failing to pay for several won auctions and I believe as a seller you have the option to exclude those sanctioned buyers from bidding because that family member told me they lost the ability to bid for a period of time but only with certain sellers. Very simple solution Pete - if no pay , just announce you are going down the list and offering to the next highest, then next, then next - until you find the person who will pay for their high bid. It’ll more than likely be right about where you think it should be OR get rid of the “goofy bids” and block them. Email and tell if serious - they know how to reach you

I have learned, auctions almost never pull full value, so I stopped them for the most part. I might do an average of 1 every year or two. Reasons being are sold value, and people not paying. With the tools available today, most items have a market value spanning the past 2 years using terapeak. If not, I start high and let it ride reducing the price monthly.

I saw the spring loaded car with the steering and I never knew those were a thing....that sounds like something super fun for a kid. And that made me think... What good is a super nice classic toy like that if a child will never gets to play with it. Years ago I saw videos on how various auction houses secretly buy their own stuff to make a simple thing like a "sealed" video game worth a LOT of money which in turn drives the used "market" value up for no actual reason. I hope toys like that get played with because that's what the person who designed it meant to happen. True, but with that then you (as the 2nd highest bidder) has to wonder if you were run up by someone who never had the intention of paying to begin with. So now you're being asked to pay essentially your maximum bid while you could've possibly had it for much less. Of course some sellers may understand that as well, and like Pete, has a number in mind of what it really should be worth. But then again, if the 2nd highest bidder asks to fall back to the price it was the point before the non-paying winner got involved, the seller has to wonder if the item could've gone for more had the price not been run up so quickly. It can be a messy situation, doesn't hut to ask the 2nd highest bidder though to see what they wish to do before relisting, since they are partially at fault of the outcome too.

@@airplaneengine got that. But if the final bidder doesnt pay after (let say 10days) let the second place bidder get a say. Works like this in an estate or auction sale live in person. @airplaneengine you described your reply very well. After all, anyone after the first winner at an auction gets not say. But EBAY does allow you to reach out afterwords. The second and third bidder can still all say NO.

Hey Pete and everybody... This video is old now so not sure anyone will see it, but here's the scoop on the ebay shenanigans..... so what's going on is someone had that same item that you have for auction. They are about to sell it. So they will create two accounts to drive up the price of the item. Then the auction will end and it will show selling for 2k dollars. Then they can show the buyer of the item they are now selling "hey look it just sold for 2k and I'm going to sell it to you for just 1.5k" It's a ripoff scam. Sometimes people just suck. Hope ebay cleans this up. Oh and of course they'll never pay anything on the item they just drove up the price on from you.

I buy several items a month for vintage motorcycles and lawnmowers; I just want the item at a fair price and for God's sakes *SHIP IT OUT THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY* . Auctions are of no interest. Great channel Pete!
