From his ebay feedback, I see he has sold 10 belt buckles, a coin set and the drum sticks for about $4700. He is asking for $660 for a remaining coin set. I presume additional belt buckles might have been sold without receiving feedback and thus don't show up there?

I thought the same. He should do an end of the year highlight video of all the most interesting buys/sells. Cut out most of the negotiations. Focus on the product and price/profit. And it’s also super refreshing that this guy actually knows his shit. No one needs to “call a buddy who knows about this stuff”. They just know their stuff. It’s great. And when they don’t know what it is, they openly admit that and try to research the items.

As a pawnbroker for 8 years, and a 30 year KISS fan, this one had me rolling. I mean I don't know if I would've been able to pay out $3500 for those belt buckles. While they were probably worth it, its hard to know if its original 70s first time runs or reprints/reproductions. That would be my major issue with it. Yes collectors will pay big money for this stuff. I personally collect some KISS memorabilia, but am not hard core about it. I collect a lot of different things, most of my KISS stuff is low key like books and posters and photos. So belt buckles, not my area of specialty. KISS put out so much stuff and the original 70s merch can pull some really good money. But the whole interaction to a T was just exactly what I could see happening at my shop. Not having comps for the stuff and having to take the guys word is a hard sell. He really should have done you a favor and just started with one and brought them in one or two at a time over a few months rather than all at once. I mean maybe he needed it all ASAP I guess, but that is something I would have sold out online myself rather than bring them to a resale shop. But yeah as a KISS fan and pawn broker that would have been a very difficult negotiation for sure.

Consignment is perfect for mitigating risk, and most importantly it protects you (the business owner) from taking a bit hit. And 50/50 on consignment is also a really great deal for the seller... it's the business owner spending the money on employees taking pictures and setting it up to sell online (among other expenses); Pretty generous indeed.
@NutzBdragon Жыл бұрын
if you pay someone to take pictures of stuff, you're doing it wrong. I surprised you didn't throw time into the equation. as it is I'm typing up this rebuttal while I'm sitting on the toilet. boomer ways of thinking are dead. technology makes things EASYER. You're still thinking as you take a pic on a camera then you need to take the sd card out and upload it to the computer and edit them. those times have gone. when someone tells me "it takes time and money" I know they are old school bsers.

Personally, I don't wonder- he probably tried to sell a couple and no one wanted to pay his price. He's probably on every social media forum dedicated to Kiss from FB to Reddit and no one wants to pay what he thinks they are worth.

I think this is the only time I've ever seen Pete pay too much for anything! I think it is going to take years to recoup that kind of money for this stuff! If it was really worth what the guy was saying he would have sold it himself. He probably already had it listed on Ebay and saw that there just aren't any buyers who are willing to pay that much for this stuff!
@kevinmach730 Жыл бұрын
I agree, it's going to take a while and I don't think he's going to make a killing. I can't speak for everyone, I just don't find a belt buckle all that exciting- unless maybe it was actually worn by someone in the band, etc. As some people mentioned in other comments here, I think he's already knows collectors and in been in collector forums and realized no one wants to pay what he thinks they should be going for.

In 72 Gene Simmons was influenced by this remarkable UK band Slade. They listened to Slade Alive and were impressed by Dave Hills futuristic clothes but especially his platform boots. In 73 Kiss were formed. Kiss were also influenced by Alice Cooper. In a way certainly of their amazing stage outfit's, Kiss were the end product.
