When I had A LOT of bible I used two systems that both worked. The slower one was to put a piece of paper inside the cover that had a number. That was easier than going by look or text. The second, and better system was to have one on each shelf at a time so only the one I needed was in that location. Great speed!

Guuuuurl! I cannot believe how fast you did all of that! EXCELLENT! I do have a question though....as youre going through and putting them all in their packages from your sorting tables...how do you know what you need to grab from that table to go with the next label? I tried to see if you maybe had a list there someplace you were going by but I never did see one!
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout 2 жыл бұрын
When I print the label there is a spot to put a "reference" in so I just enter the name of the book or bundle or some kind of short abbreviation that I recognise to go with the book. So as I'm packing one order I'm looking at the next label so I know what the next book to grab is.

I noticed how some bundles had been given a number sequence while others did not. As someone who have been working in this scenario for over two years now, you should know that all bundles on the racks should have a tag so as to prevent sending out a wrong one (if there are more than one wrapped bundle and/or if some have missing books in a series, etc.). Just my take on it all, considering how I have worked in a stockroom environment and maintained a filing system for a number of years in the past. As far as I know, I don't have OCD, but... I would have a conniption fit if something like that was out of whack. Other than that, you have a decent inventory system: systematic, practical, and efficient. You are doing a fine job there, despite my comments. Keep up the good work!
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I normally give some a number if they are an author I sell often or a series I sell on repeat. That way I never send out the wrong one. If I’m photographing multiple bundles of the same author at once I also always make sure I put them on different shelves just in case.
@asabval
@asabval 2 жыл бұрын
I of course don't know how your systems work but alternatively could you maybe do your post labels first and write the SKU on them, then you could use them as picking slips and put them with each book as you pick them and put on the table. Then when it came to packing you can pick any random book/item and pack them cause the post label is there. Then you have made up time that you would otherwise use to search for items on the table.
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I have tried that method and it works okay for some books but sometimes I need visual reference to the book I'm searching for and I need the photo to quickly look at the photo of the spine. Some books I am familiar with and other's can be more tricky to remember. Also if I visually can't see the book I often underestimate or over estimate the postage mailer needer. So if I pick them first I can check the mailer size to make sure I'm paying only for what I need size wise.

Hi there, your videos have really helped me a lot with running my new ebay store. I noticed you were using padded satchels for most books, but what happens when you have like 3 or 4 hardcover books together? Is the padded mailer enough protection? And do you ship overseas like this? And do you buy your mailers direct from auspost or buy generic ones somewhere?
@JanBee1122
@JanBee1122 2 жыл бұрын
Didn't see you package a hardcover, but I always put hard cover books in boxes, even if it costs a little more to ship. I don't want the corners bumped and damaged in transport. As you say, Bibles can be big sellers and many of the editions purchased are collectible hardcover. I enjoyed your video. :)
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout 2 жыл бұрын
I still ship the hardcovers in the mailers and I’ve never had any complaints. These mailers are quite strong and well padded and water resistant. If I have a very expensive book or bundle I often double mailer it for extra protection. I will occasionally use a box on a bundle but not often.

@Lea_1113
@Lea_1113 2 жыл бұрын
she has mentioned on previous videos that she hasn't had issues. She uses the padded mailers even though they are a bit dearer as it saves time and bubble wrap would be a cost. Also doesn't need to bubble wrap before packing and they are a little bit bigger than the normal mailers.

@backfromburnout

If you put them in a plastic satchel you need to wrap them all with bubble wrap first (time consuming). I buy mine in bulk so I get larger discounts and I buy them through Australia Post. I keep small, med and large in stock always.

@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout 2 жыл бұрын
I stack mine on my shelves on the top level and I bundle in lots of about 10. I make my magazine bundles based around weight as my mailers have a 5kg weight limit for the flat rate pricing. So that’s normal about 10. I do exactly the same and cling wrap them into bundles and then stack them.

@backfromburnout

Possibly I could try laying them out in the same order I pick them and then yes most of the labels are probably in that order. Great tip I will actually try that next time to see if it makes a difference.

Hey Mel, if you used AP Padded mailers Dont you have to weigh & measure just like " my own package"???
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout 2 жыл бұрын
No. If you use branded Australia Post padded mailers they are also sized small, medium and large and they are charged at the same rate as a flat rate satchel. The padded mailer themselves though do cost more to buy than the plastic satchel (but you save money then on buying bubble wrap). I buy mine in bulk to get them cheaper. I just ordered another 1000 yesterday of the small ones. If you use any kind of unbranded mailer then you need to charge them as "my own postage". This is why I pay more for the branded ones as it's a missive time saver to not have to worry about weighing and measuring my orders. I don't have time for that.

@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout 2 жыл бұрын
No, I actually charged it as an XL mailer. That plastic satchel is size XL. But the padded mailers don't come in size XL. So sometimes I put a large bundle into a couple of smaller padded mailers for the protection and then post together in the larger sized plastic satchel.I don't have to do it often, only on some of those larger bundles.

When I print them, there is a spot to put a reference in. So I write the name of the book/bundles or an abbreviation of it so I understand. They were called a Heavy Duty Multi Purpose Stackable Storage Bin. I think as long as I keep most items in plastic snap lock bags (which most are unless large like plush) then it should keep dust away. Can I ask a question...I noticed you have all your labels printed ready to go. How do you know what size to use? Do you figure that out when listing? When I do mine, I pack, write name on parcel, then fill out the info on my post according to what size satchel/box I used. Once I have packaged, I print the labels then stick on each corresponding name. Your way looks faster.
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout 2 жыл бұрын
I pick the orders first so I can visually see the order/size. Most of the books I can make an accurate guess on what size mailer I need as I’ve sent so many thousands of them I have a good eye but if any need checking, if the orders are already picked, it will only take a couple of seconds to check what size mailer I will need for the order. So I pick. Then print labels. Then pack.

Hi Beverly, yes I take the photos of the item and then I put it on a shelf that it will fit and then I take a photo of the shelf number where I put it. So then when I am doing the listing on the eBay website I have the location of the item and I add that shelf number to the SKU in my listing. The photo doesn't go into the listing at all, it's just for my reference for adding to the listing so I know where the book is located when it sells. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.
