Yeah but what about if you think a card is real and you try to sell it and you get in trouble and lose money it's basically counterfeit money. With Proxies you can play expensive decks without the risks of getting scammed or getting in trouble they are the solution not counterfeits Granted you can't play in tournaments for money with proxies but I think it is perfectly reasonable that Wizards only allows cards they printed to be used in their own tournaments they fund
@aptiryp26828 ай бұрын
I can totally understand the argument. The financial entry barrier for formats like Legacy and Vintage is the height of Mount Everrest. Honestly, with a fake of this quality, I can imagine that you would get through in most medium-sized tournaments. I'll be honest, I also have the feeling that the quality of the original prints can vary. I've even pulled cards from a pack that weren't properly centered.

If they were selling their proxies as proxies at a reasonable price of anything less than 4$, sure. But they're selling them as real. You lose value hard by buying a fake card being sold as real, because even if you don't catch the forgery, the next person you try to sell it to very well might.

Nope, this is 100% fake. The biggest giveaway the uploader didn't really dig into (though he mentioned it) is that the black lines on the border are not on a separate layer on the counterfeit. Legitimate cards printed in Japan have a completely different look to them than US printed cards as well. They sometimes have a shinier back and a dull front. Newer fake cards are pressed and not cut, so back side edges are slightly raised, and their back side is even shinier than Japan printed cards.

The issues shown could clearly be differences in printers and countries of origin. These differences are extremely clear in newer sets. You need to take these cards to a shop and compare them to identical cards from the same set, same country of origin. Without that, as well as an attempt at checking the core, then your review is incomplete. The only valid way, without destroying the card, is to have the card officially examined and graded by a professional grading company.
@oldmanmagic72372 жыл бұрын
My first take on this was that maybe some fakes ended up in their collection of real cards depending on how they buy, sell, or trade. If you discovered that they specifically sold proxies of cards before, that would be a red flag for me. I purposely don't have any proxy cards in my collection because of this exact reason, but it also wouldn't be unheard of if a fake card or two filtered its way in over 30 years of collecting.

that card is not fake. that variation in shades among blues can be seen on many cards, and the variation in clarity in the inner border line is also common. just depends on set and print run. keep in mind, if the "fake" is so good it's barely detectable under very close scrutiny, it's probably good enough to trick anybody that sees it. as far as the light test goes, if you see the bark pattern etc and a blue tone that is a strong indicator that it's good, but *not* seeing all that doesn't mean it's bad. some cards are like that
@undergrounddojokeyboardcag7012 жыл бұрын
Its the print pattern, thats really the only way to guarantee it. If its different, its fake. Its different. When you see color differences in real magic cards, they are ever so slight and its still crisp coloring. With that, you can tell its due to black bleeding in, which tells us it was all printed at once. Real magic cards, the black is printed separately from the other colors so it would never bleed. Also no, "some cards" are not "like that", they'll all pass the light test. I don't know why you posted what you did, it seems like its just all guess work on your end, because its definitely not due to your experience or ability to spot fakes. Even ignoring everything you said, anyone who knows how to spot fakes know counterfeiters don't know how to reproduce the print/rosette pattern and that this is always the thing you look for, for an answer. The card is 100% fake. No questions asked. And its a scary fake, its a very, very, very good fake. What i would be worried about is people buying graded cards and replacing the graded card with one of these. No one would know.

I haven’t looked that hard at the halftones of my cards but if a different printer or different printing process takes place, that’s enough to make the halftone patterns appear different. You can see even on official cards they have different colors and different finishes which means they’ve changed their process and or printers. the red dot test within the green dot on the back is the most accurate and precise way to tell if a card is counterfeit. the only ones that pass it are rebacked older cards, but those always fail the light test. this is why there are multiple tests to determine if a card is counterfeit. the dot test hasn't failed me yet. i've noticed counterfeits by eyesight alone because as you said, the color (and usually texture of the card) is always off.

while a seller selling 1 fake card could just happen. it's not really a legit test to test 1 card from a nonstandard set to a standard block set. the printing is always a bit different on the master/commander sets. light test is always suspect. and needs to be done on two identical cards to be any way reliable. Would also say. if you do the weight, or UV reflective test. should also be done on identical cards. OR at the very least the same set. the rosette lining on the black layer is the most suspect. legit mtg cards have a sep black printed layer as one of the final color layers. why all the blacks should be solid black with no rosettes and clear lines. can also use the jeweler loop to look at the rag layer inbetween the cards. most of the higher qual chinese fakes use a black rag layer. where as wotc cards are purple. if you think it's counterfeit just issue a refund with ebay. if ebay blinks call your CC processor have the charge reversed. the greater stupidity is the nature of small bits of cardboard only having value because one company has a predatory gamble pack secondary market system to inflate the value of them.

Why would they fake a cheap modern card ?
@FinalManaTrigger2 жыл бұрын
Yep, fake. The border lines should be solid black, not a mix of ink to make black like on that Force. That's why it's wavy. Wizards uses a separate black layer over the other colors for the text, borders, and set symbol.

if I was going to buy a card on eBay I wouldnt pay too much attention to the pictures, but more the distribution. If they have a real one they will just have pictures of that up anyway and send you the fakes. just don't get mislead at the thought of a good deal like the guy that accidentally bought a proxy when I he thought I was getting a real card.

Do you still have the card? I'd be interested in comparing the green dot on the back to the one I have.

I don't think it's fake at all. One was 2014 and the other was 2019 prints. Got to remember the 2019-2021 prints weren't the best prints they had and they had alot of complaints about guality

I'll pay 1usd for this fine proxy but it should have some information at the bottom stating such.

The fakes never have that last black layer to clean everything up plus all you need to do is find the rosette pattern and the dot test, that's it. Plus I don't really buy new cards. The vintage cards are a lot harder to fake.

I don't think it's right to name shame the seller, who may not be aware.
@DismalDante2 жыл бұрын
I agree it's not right to shame the seller, but I think it is the responsibility of anyone selling a magic card to verify authenticity before selling.
@Redskies4532 жыл бұрын
@@DismalDante I mean did you check with the seller first to see if you could resolve it? If you've provided the evidence the card is fake they are obliged to refund you and take the loss, but to expect them to check every card with a loupe before sale is not reasonable.
@DismalDante2 жыл бұрын
I did contact the seller and they did resolve it by giving a refund. I do think it is reasonable for a seller to check any cards they sell that they got from an untrusted source, because most buyers won't realize cards like this are fake until it's too late to get a refund.

8:42 I have a ton of cards I got from the 90s and they don't show these kind of veins. Is it normal? But they show up in the more "recent" cards I have (they are from around 2010).

There are some new cards that don’t have veins. Throne of eldraine cards look weird to me.
@madjoe86223 жыл бұрын
@@puttputt524 From what I have noticed while checking all my old cards is these veins seem to be more visible on blue cards. I have heard that some (or all?) Throne cards are not passing the light test. That's annoying. I don't have any, so I can verify.
@totallycarbon21062 жыл бұрын
These qualities vary from set to set, and also country of origin. This can make certain things annoying to verify. Typically getting a range of known real cards from the same set can help you in these kinds of close inspections.

1st off you are comparing a Japanese print card (Modern Horizon) to a US print card (Kaladesh). The Japanese print cards have a different core stock than older cards. Would really like to see a comparison to another Modern Horizon card.
