Was in a Goodwill today instead of home putting things ON eBay because I TOO have been stressing...and there on the floor was a man with a whole lot of books ON the floor, in a cart. SO. Hi Fishing With Me! I have a suggestion that may help with notetaking so you don't have to spend so much time rewinding. If you look under the video, you will see 3 dots. Click on them and then click on open transcript! Voila! There is a written video transcript. I open a Word document, copy and paste the transcript to the document and then when there is something on the video I want to make a note of, I simply go to my Word document and highlight it! Easy peasy!

One of the best ways to start is to only sell stuff that’s under a pound so you can ship First Class. You can use bagel/bread bags from Walmart instead of clear poly bags for presentation and use 5/$1 paper shipping envelopes from the dollar store along with $1 shipping tape, $1 bubble wrap, and $1 white poster board to photograph on. There is another channel with a $20 challenge that shows the cheapest way to get started. You don’t even need a whole $20 if you start with things in your house that weigh less than a pound or ask friends and family for small or light things they don’t want that you can sell. Shipping is really not the hardest part about selling on eBay. You learn as you go.

0:45 Make SURE that if your item weighs less than 16 oz to use first class parcel. If you enter 16 oz or 1 lb for your shipping through eBay, it will give you a 1st class label - BUT you will get an additional charge to your account for the difference between what you paid and what Priority Mail shipping. It happened to me recently. So, first class shipping is for anything that weighs 15.999999 oz or less. Once it goes to 16 oz, it has to be sent by Priority mail.

I am also here and Utah and I didn't watch this video in time I've said for items out this week and not only the dead I lose all the profit from the product I paid out even more from my pocket just in the shipping and packaging alone. This actually will help me out because two of those items were shoes and I had to find big bulky boxes and it ended up costing me $15 which was way more than what I charge for them I'm learning everything still. You can use "calculated shipping " You put in the weight and dimensions of the package in the listing. Then eBay calculates the price for you.

Jeff & Ashley Wheeler The general rule of thumb I use is if the item is under a pound, I charge around $5, 1 pound to 2 pounds, I charge around $8-10, 2 to 3 pounds, I charge around $11-13, 3 to 4 pounds, I charge around $15. This will cover you if you ship to zone 8 across the country since you won’t know how far it will be going until someone buys it. Sometimes I’m off a little too low, but it’s pretty close. You can check the current zone rates by pound for priority mail on the stamps.com priority mail chart, but those weights include the box and packing material, which you won’t know until you get ready to ship it. This is why you usually want to estimate “free” and flat rate shipping based on the zone 8 rates. One trick with a competitive item that you’ve already dropped the price on a bunch of times is to pack it up, weigh and measure the box and put the information in the listing and switch it from free or flat rate to calculated shipping. This way, someone who lives close to you will see your item as cheaper than the competition (including shipping) while someone further away will see it as more expensive. It’s a way to be competitive without dropping your price again.

Have you tried to PACK ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY? I don't do as much packing but I always managed to reused a package from something I've received or packaging from stuff that I have bought. The BONUS is that it's FREE!!!! If or when I get to a point where I post more and can no longer find things around my own house I can always go to my local grocery store that gives out their boxes and I can easily ask my family and friend to keep their posting packaging and other bags or else that can be used for posting. People that are receiving the items have said they were happy that their purchase didn't create more plastic (mostly during Plastic Free July). And then if you do have too much of a demand for packaging or don't want to be bothered (note that one of the reasons why we have this disposable items problem is because of "convenience") well their still options: 100% biodegradable bags, paper bag, Recycled bags, etc. We are very lucky to have access to so many options. If we can make little changes in our habits it adds up.

also, consider pirateship.com. they do cubic priority shipping which can save you money. plus you can set up an API to connect to your eBay account. A lot of the same pricing as eBay for normal shipping items, but if you can get an item thats over 16 oz but small, cubic is the way to go.

Great video!!, the only thing that was not covered that saves a ton of money when it comes to shipping is the cubic rate shipping. You will have to use a service outside of eBay but saves are worth it. Any time I can't get an item to fit in a flate rate padded mailer. I compare cubic rates, rates are determined by the size of the box up to 20lb. To get the best rates I do have to cut down boxes. There are other sites but priateship is free, easy to use ,and understand.

So I understand that it makes sense to ship a bigger but lightweight item in a priority box or envelope where shipping is based on weight and destination if a regional box does not work. I do get the weight part but how does it work with the destination part when I list the item and want to charge for shipping. At that point I have no clue where my future buyer lives. You basically want to list shipping based on the priority price. Once you have a buyer, you can see if the regional box is lower. The eBay shipping page shows you the options and prices. The advantage of the regional boxes is each box charges no more than a certain weight no matter how much your item weighs, so a small 6 lb item would ship as 2lbs in the regional A box and 4 lbs in the regional B box. So, if your item weighs less than 4 pounds, the regional B box would be more than priority. You should weigh your items with a box when you list them to get an idea of what shipping method to choose. You can choose Fed Ex home delivery or economy shipping when you list and still ship priority depending where they live, but you don’t want to ship Fed Ex home delivery or parcel select if you listed as priority mail shipping.

Great video! Haven't jumped into ebay yet...What I don't understand--Don't you need to know the shipping rates before you create the listing that way the buyer knows how much it all costs? How come you are calculating all that after it is sold? Thanks so much!

You weigh the item with a box or whatever think you will ship it in when you are listing. Under 1 pound will be first class and no more than $5 something as she said. For over a pound, yes, you want to get an idea of what box or envelop it will fit in. You guess the shipping based on this and then weigh the item with all of the packaging when you actually ship it when it sells and input that when you print the label.

So if I were to sell a Typical video game.. I would do first class? I just get my own bubble mailer, put the game in, slap the label on, and put it in the Bubble mailer and ship?

I was wondering when you print out the address labels you need a computer with the CD input because my computer doesn't have that if I wanted to print labels from the printer so I'm a little bit confused if you're not writing out the address manually. I've seen address labels at Dollar Tree but I don't know if it would work without CD instruction to properly align it the headings.

You can print the labels on plain paper, cut them out and tape them on as long as you don’t tape over the bar code. You don’t need labels to get started.

Me too. Made a mistake. I heard i can just printout the purchased label then go post office and pay for the extra ounces. TheyLL just STIck in addition to my label.. buying a scale today
