+SMB Garage (Spencer Bailey) he used that extinguisher already when the turbo was on fire the first time, thats why it didn't work the second time XD those portable fire extinguishers loose all their pressure once you use them for the first time unless you get it recharged and re sealed.

+SMB Garage (Spencer Bailey) The extinguishers from ebay are great. But when you pull the pin and press the lever down. You open something inside it that doesnt close. so all the pressure gets released and it wont fire next time you use it. This happens to ALL fire extinghuishers.

A proper turbo still works perfectly after 100.000 miles. A small K04 one costs around 2.000€, though.
@crysiscontained44218 жыл бұрын
More than likely they didn't drill the oil return high enough and the oil couldn't drain from the turbo quick enough so the oil gave way to friction. The fact that the turbo still spins and has no play in it and is not blowing pieces into the engine says that the turbo itself didn't fail
@darios97978 жыл бұрын
so the turbo blew up multiple times and almost completely destroyed your car if it wasnt for that one guy with the big fire extinguisher but it is reliable.. ok

@Triicks1118 жыл бұрын

That rear turbo looks to have leaking oil seals -- you can see the oil pooled in the bottom of the intake and this would also account for the smoke from the exhaust. Hot oil getting into the turbo intake *can* produce the kind of fire you experienced.

Sick of people thinking Ebay makes parts...Ebay is just a vendor site, some vendors are bad and it shows in their ratings. Do your research and you will be fine. BTW majority of the vendors on the Bay are extremely concerned about customer feedback and will replace a crappy turbo in a heartbeat if the customer is unsatisfied.

It's not a question of wether or not the turbo is going to be slap ass wore out after not much milage or fail that quickly. The issue is the catastrophic failure that's coming and will happen much much sooner than if you bought a good unit and when it does fail, say goodbye to that ge because it will put pieces of impeller all through the intake and engine bay.
@nuckfish308 жыл бұрын
you cheap out with forced induction you pay later. as a rule if your turbo build will cost say 5000 better have 5000 saved for repairs

The bigger bits will probably get lodged in the intercooler so the engine has a slim chance of surviving turbo failure.

I don't know how fast the lexus is but the Aristo Vertex edition (JDM GS, 300 hp, 2JZ-GTE) only runs a 14.3 qm. Thats the best I've seen at the track. They're just so heavy and have an open diff in the back. They're quick from a 40 mph or 60 mph roll though.
@eddieace3458 жыл бұрын
I mean it sounds good paper , but if you know a thing or two about how power is made, gear ratios and power to weight ratios you'd know the Lexus would still get walked by the Camaro in its stock form. Since we know Alex's Camaro isn't stock, it's pretty obvious how that race would go.
@john-martin8 жыл бұрын
most people who run an eBay turbo also run a hack job. If you run an eBay turbo with the proper vacuum set up wastegate set up and blow off valve set up and a tune just like you would with the upper end turbo you won't have a problem and you'll make good power.
@john-martin8 жыл бұрын
if one person had a problem cause he didnt know what he was doing and posts about it and a hundred people read it youll believe a hundred people had a problem with the turbo when it wasnt the turbo in the first place it was the team butt touch forum jedi
@eddieace3458 жыл бұрын
Don't forget most people who throw eBay turbos on their cars don't have the most proper running cars prior to the introduction of forced induction. There are drag builds with plenty people running eBay turbos and they've lasted quite a while because as you mentioned they did their due diligence and have a proper setup
@Pynoxim18 жыл бұрын
+john martin Indeed, I had an eBay Turbo on my Mk4 Jetta 1.8T, it was on there for quite a few months, however the setup I had was proper. I didn't take any shortcuts with regards to the stuff that was required to fit and run that turbo. I daily'ed that build for 6 months before I sold it, running at 22 PSI everyday and even to this day (7 months later), that turbocharger is still surviving on another Mk4 with zero shaft play etc. People tend to bash things before they've even tried it, which is kinda sad.
@dixoncider72568 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Lai Wing did you have any tuning with your setup?
@Pynoxim18 жыл бұрын
Dixon Cider I did indeed Dixon, it wasn't the best map but it was mapped nonetheless. I made 303hp with that setup. eBay 50 Trim .63 A/R. I've got a few videos of it up on my channel if you want to have a look, nothing spectacular though.

It's the eBay manifolds that destroy turbos, not just bad quality turbos. What happens is that as the manifold expands and contracts with the heat, the inside layer of the manifold chips off and gets inside your turbo and destroys your turbo, because people usually just buy he whole eBay turbo kit.

Running a turbo for 5 days with a horrible set-up that was probably barely holding compression the whole time gives you basically no experience on the subject. There are 2 sellers on ebay that have decent products but the other stuff is garbage. Put it on a car the correct way drive it for a month the way you do and watch what happens. As other said, use the diesel truck turbos or something from a factory car from a boneyard cheap and they are engineered for longevity because manufacturers don't want warranty work.
@DonutisTrash8 жыл бұрын
+FixxxerKH202 I don't trust any turbo from ebay that isn't obviously a reputable brand lol. Shit even new Borgwarners are pretty cheap nowadays no excuse to run these crappy snails.
@FixxxerKH2028 жыл бұрын
***** Notice I said "decent" they definitely still have faults and are almost as expensive as the big names for the ones I am referring to. Not the $120 ones like he has here. I agree with you. Main issue with most the ebay and cheaper ones is that the tolerances are a mile wide on the impellers and housing compared to the big names and therefore lose out in efficiency.

An untuned , high mileage GE with two small turbos, the least efficient intake and exhaust manifolds (quite obviously riddled with leaks) in the known universe and probably a host of other performance robbing issues and you think it makes more than a stock GTE? Lol whoever taught you about cars did it wrong friend
@xXxXcrosbykidXxXx8 жыл бұрын
15psi (again I'm betting there was lots of boost and exhaust leaks) and the higher compression would make awesome power if it was an engineered intake and exhaust with a healthy engine. I'd give this a 230whp max as well. And that's generous honestly, that AT with a beat to shit high mileage torque converter robs a lot of power too
@eddieace3458 жыл бұрын
No tune, not sure about injectors. Considering the cars age and not knowing the basic health of the engine. I'd say somewhere in the 220-230 WHP being generous. Don't forget how heavy the car is though

So was it a seal that went? I'm guessing it was an oil leak and then it ignited from the heat? How many miles were on the turbos?
@CryptoCobon8 жыл бұрын
Hey bro I subbed. can you tell me which Turbo you got? also did you get it with full piping or made custom piping? When it comes to turbo manifolds etc I'm sure I have to get one off a Ralliart or Evo X. but other than that. what all did you do? I don't see your follow up video.

Can you guys post a link to that eBay post for the turbochargers? I have a V8 Benz that there are no kits for whatsoever and I want to experiment with something a little less expensive before going all out. As either way I'll have to build everything from scratch so I want to save money where ever I can. Thanks!

Reliability is the issue with the bargain eBay turbos. If you have a nice car and other quality parts, then why risk blowing it up with an unreliable turbo? I will say that there are definitely projects where an eBay turbo would be a viable option. A vehicle that you got dirt cheap just to play around with as a project car, not taken seriously. But to put the kind of time in, and especially if you're paying for labor, that a turbo install for a non-turbo factory car takes is insane. What you should do is go on th Evo or WRX forums and buy used factory Evo and WRX/STI turbos. Far better and more reliable than eBay turbos and dirt cheap for what they can do. I see Evo X turbos for sale all the time on the forums for $300-$600 with low mileage. Reliable to 25 PSI and good for 300-350 hp easily. Now grab two of those and twin turbo your v6 or whatever you have. That's reliability and superior performance at a reasonable cost.

Does your engine normally burn oil? Seems like the seals in the turbo are pretty bad which is why there's blue smoke from the exhaust and possibly why one of the turbos went on fire with oil just pouring on hot parts.

Should I put a 500$ turbo kit on a nice new edge mustang gt?
@Sinister_Reaper8 жыл бұрын
get a bigger return line, keeps the oil from backing up in the turbo as the turbo speed increases, its usually the cause on the turbo's on the semi's i work on. over boosting the turbo without compensating for the oil return, i threw on a second turbo on a cummins n14 and blocked out both wastegates, now running at 50 psi, had to get a bigger return line because the oil would backup and cause turbo's to blow, also opting out for a larger intercooler helps definitely

there's no point boosting it without putting a tune on it to compensate for the positive pressure on the intake side that the MAP/MAF sensor might see(assuming you changed the stock MAP sensor to a 2/3bar one)

@MarkDoesWork8 жыл бұрын
It didn't blow up but did you forget the catching on fire twice part?
@Two-StrokeLife8 жыл бұрын
The fire looks like one of two things. Return line oil leak or front housing seal. If you have a return line oil leak on the rear turbo that is leaking onto your dump for the front turbo it will catch fire when you get the exhaust extremely hot. I would pull all your lines, check for leaks and check the center section to housing bolts and seal. Probably nothing to do with the turbo itself, but I wouldn't chance it again.
