In this video I review the Eberlestock X2 backpack as well as do a pack dump on everything I take into the deer woods. This pack is perfect for the self-filmer/mobile hunter who packs in climbing sticks and camera gear.

Finally someone who uses full size sticks with this pack! Is it still comfortable with the size? Any other problems that the full stick causes?
@madhuntsadventures

Completely comfortable. Full sized sticks work totally fine with the X2 pack. The ONLY time I've had a stick hit me in the lower calf is if/when I've stepped over a downed tree and bent my knee around 90 degrees but that is very rare. Great question, Brady!

Great question, Brian! I don't think the pack is loud at all. I'm super happy with it and would highly recommend it! I use it every hunt and have never felt that it was loud (I've actually never even heard the pack make any noise). Hopefully that helps. Take care!

Nice looking pack! I would swap out those sticks for Shikars. Check out how Mark Dohring sets up his Eberstock pack at the base of his shins. Your pack at shoulder height could get in the way on some shots.

Looks like a good backpack. That brand has caught my eye a few times. Currently have an ALPS traverse. It’s a good backpack. I do like the layout of your backpack. A lot of nice pockets. Do your sticks stay in place just from compression of those side flap compartments being strapped down?
@madhuntsadventures

Aaron, thanks for the comments! Yeah they totally stay in place just from the pressure/straps. I’ve never had one come loose. It’s a great pack! I’m very happy with it!

Great video. How do you find the size vs. your height? I read some reviews where they say if you are 6' or over, it is too short in the torso, thoughts?
@madhuntsadventures

Great question, Kennyrooo! I'm 5'10" and it is not at all too short for me. The bottom of the pack sits around the top row of Molle webbing on my saddle. I hope that helps! Thank you for watching!

I noticed you said you had a rain suit in the pack and that makes perfect sense, I too carry a rain suit. However, I haven't ever hunted from a saddle. How do you put a rain suit, or layers on when in the saddle? Thank you.
@madhuntsadventures
@madhuntsadventures 3 жыл бұрын
Great question, Buldgr! Putting on a shirt or jacket is not an issue with the saddle on up in the tree. However, putting on rain pants would be an issue. So I do one of two things... 1) If I see that it is going to rain I either put the pants on at the truck prior to putting on my saddle, OR 2) I climb down from the stand and take the saddle off and put on my rain pants and then put the saddle back on and climb back up. Those are your only two options. I hope that was helpful!

Timber Wolf, for me and for the application I'm using it for it works out great! If I was doing a bunch of western hunts and packing in tents, sleeping bags, etc. maybe I'd want to upgrade. Otherwise, for just doing day hunts I'm super happy with it!

Why do you have climbing sticks and wild edge steps? I have both also but never take them both out at the same time.. I'm struggling a little bit with the wild edge steps. I use my hawk heliums a lot more than my wild edge. Thanks for the video. My old pack zipppers are done for. Will be picking up this pack soon.👍🏻

Never mind I read your first comment using the wild edge steps as a platform. I have the same issue with my wild edge steps sometimes coming loose. Bought the squirrel steps and going to use them as a ring of steps.
@madhuntsadventures
@madhuntsadventures 3 жыл бұрын
@@nickbirk8547 that's awesome! Yeah I've not been impressed with the Wild Edge Stepps. Since I'm always hunting different size trees I was always struggling to get them tight and usually one or two would become loose. I like the Treehopper Tree Suit platform much better!

Nice! I have the tether platform but wanted a ring of steps. That's why I got the squirrel steps. I haven't tried them yet though. My dad got the wild edge steps to stay tight everytime with replacing the rope with amsteal. The only problem is that it's a little tougher to get the knot out.

Bobby, I use the HME Accessory Hook. You strap it around the tree and it has three adjustable hooks for gear. Enjoyed the video. Being a new SH awaiting delivery of my CRUZR, I’m getting close to ordering my ascending/descending tool. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the Wild Edge steps. I had narrowed my choice down to the Helium’s until I saw Chris Cain and others demo the Cain SteppLadder. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. BTW, it was your demo video that convinced me to go with the CRUZR. Thanks.

Congrats on the new saddle! You'll love the CRUZR! My thoughts on the Wild Edge Steps? I like that they are light and packable. I only used them as a platform and not to climb to hunting height so I only bought 3 of them. I have always used climbing sticks to get to hunting height. With that being said, I can only answer you based on using them as a platform. After using them on multiple trees for an entire season I found that they were a bit cumbersome. Some hunts they were easy to use and other times I just couldn't get them secured tight and they would shift under my feet while standing on them for hours. I also found that they were a little noisy and no matter how hard I tried to be quiet, metal always seemed to contact metal and make noise. Bottom line, as a platform I'm not super impressed with them and I plan to use something else this coming season. I hope that answer helped.
