I love A.I. It’s the greatest study of grief put to film, in my opinion. The parents grieve for their sick son, so they replace him with David. The inventor grieves for his dead son, so he invents David. And David grieves for the loss of his mother, so much so that it claims his life. I admit the Jude Law character adds nothing to the plot, and neither does the “Flesh Fair” sequence. But the last part of the “Dr Know” scene chills me to the bone, and the ambition of the movie is huge. Also, the scene where Osment transforms his expression of blank interest into complete and total devotion is a MasterClass in acting, and he was only 12.

I wonder how much harder it is for a popular child actor to transition to a B-List adult actor, when as a child, they were heavily acclaimed for their acting as opposed to just being the flavor of the moment. He did phenomenal work in A.I.; I wonder if he has it in him now, even with the right script.

I knew instinctively that The Fast and the Furious was a better movie than Gone in 60 Seconds. Thanks Roger for confirming that.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence is one of Steven Spielberg’s best films of all time.

I’m happy Ebert liked fast and the furious. The first one was great. 2 fast 2 furious was fun and great but not as good as the first and he actually praised and gave 3 out of 4 stars to Tokyo drift. 😊

I do like it when ebert and roeper argue like the siskel days but roeper never got the hang of arguing with ebert without talking over him.

I agree with Ebert, Fast & Furious is terrific drag race thriller with mix of Point Break & Gone in 60 seconds. 👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟

I'm glad Roger flat-out admitted he was wrong about AI and called it "Great." I adore the movie too.

Roeper thought the ORIGINAL The Fast and the Furious movie was unrealistic? I wonder how he liked the last 6 or 7.

Still say that if there is anyone who is so diametrically opposed to Stanley Kubrick, it is Steven Spielberg. I found it SO hard to like AI because of that. There's just such a dichotomy between the two styles, and I agree that the movie doesn't have any heart, but Kubrick can make that work (2001 doesn't have any heart either, and it is still glorious). I thought Spielberg was just tried beyond his comfort zone with AI. It looks great, but, I have to say, Spielberg is no Kubrick, and he just couldn't pull it off. And I hate the latter-day Dolittle films. The original was no great classic either, but I liked it (and Talk to the Animals is still one of the classic songs from musicals). Eddie Murphy just looks ridiculous when he talks to the animals, and his standard snark just doesn't fit in this film. (I never saw the threequel focusing on Dolittle's daughter.) Besides, I never liked when they use CGI to make animals talk - it's never believable. Let's face it, WE can't talk to the animals, so why do we need to HEAR them? In the original, they just let Rex Harrison "translate," and I just thought it worked better. And oh, spirits of fire and ice, what a pile of shyt the RDJ version was!

I guess I get the appeal of A.I. but it was overly sentimental and too sappy for me

AI i have seen bits and pieces as a kid, but not the whole movie, but watched it since im going through robin williams filmography, so this movie was on the list, and it felt to fantastical for me, i wish it stayed in the realm of reality in the robots strictly that world of blade runner/ terminator hybrid, robots, I like aspects of it, i heard the audiobook first of the story that its based on, which is on youtube the full thing, and then the start was great, but as it went on, the drama was okay but i dont know didnt really like it that much, its okay, the second act with the sex robot and kid was okay, but felt to fantastical, and the world i liked, i liked the bear and the kid, and i wish we got more of that, but for the time of them on screen was a good on screen scene to see, also why didnt Ted the movie reference this bear, come on maybe Ted 3 if they ever do it can reference this movie or super ted the animation show, but anyways, i hate the close up of actors, since it felt to fantastical. the crystal skull alien type i didnt like, i understand fantasy and religion and all that in films, i get it , i just didnt like that aspect, so maybe i watched the full movie, i just dont rememeber and probably wouldnt watch this again, i wish it just took to one thing, its interesting the back story with stanley kubrick, and fast and furious the first one is great one, yes its dumb action but holds a spot for me, in terms of nostalga in the early 2000s, and the franchise wasnt the same after the first one, and there was always spy aspects in the films, especially when Brian gets the assignment, it has it faults and i havent watched it since it first came out and a little after when i was watching all of them at once, binged it. I watched Dr Dolittle before but dont remember never rewatched it, but the other movies i dont care of watching also, the bond references are appearent in this film, sex machine type robot austin powersy, and Dr Knows, Come on, was that voiced by robin wiliams, and chris rock robot was funny, also when the kid falls in the water skyfall vibes lol, even thought that same years later and then when hes looking at the the robots at the end walking got craig vibes when hes walking in safin layer lol, but came later years. Also siskel references grand theft auto the movie or game, but its funny since the game online at least references fast and furious
