Thanks Ryan! She's so underrated! Her melodies, ear for production, themes - so great! And yeah, I know exactly the guitar tone you're talking about on she's not me - you don't happen to know who play that solo, do you? So tasty!

Awesome lesson man. Being someone who started later in life, I play only open tunings for the sake of efficiency. For a back porch player like me the limitations are almost freeing. These lessons are really helpful in showing what is possible. Really appreciated!!!
@EricHaugenGuitar5 жыл бұрын
I love the phrase "limitations are almost freeing"! It's nice to shoehorn down the possibilities a bit - plus, open tunings sound so natural and free!
@creekrocklofi5 жыл бұрын
Yes sir. Condensing things down helps make sense of tonal relationships without trying to become an expert on music theory. Also, playing open tunings gives me an excuse to keep more guitars around. It's like being a harmonica player. You need one of every type of guitar in all the keys you play in. That's what I keep telling myself anyway.

Wowzers, your tone is craaaazy good on this! My wife is a huge Jenny Lewis fan, and she gives you (and your tone) her seal of approval. Eric, as always, just a spectacular rendition. I can't tell you how you have changed my musical approach. I use to lament that I just can't sing. Your instrumentals have opened up a whole new approach. That starfire sounds great. Is that an American made Guild? It sounds terrific.

Thanks so much for your donation Kevin! I saw the email notification right after leaving my dentist - it was the perfect pick me up! Sometimes our limitations can be thought of as gifts - that's what I try to remind myself at least :-) I'm a medium ok singer on a good day, but that forced me to get good at guitar to express myself. Making songs I love come back to life on my fretboard is pure joy. That Guild is one of the recent made in Korea versions - it's real smooth!

Eric, I've posted on a few of your videos and I always reckoned slide just wasn't in me until I tried your 'Angel from Montgomery' slide lesson. Since then I've dedicated two guitars to open tuning and am getting better the more I practice. I can't thank you enough ( but patreon might go a ways!). Any plans on a slide video in standard? I know it doesn't have the same feel as open tunings so your input/advice would be inspiring. Thanks again from Ireland.

Hi Eric: do you have to set up your guitar specially for slide guitar....thanks, from Calgary.
@EricHaugenGuitar5 жыл бұрын
Greetings my neighbor to the north! This Guild still has the factory setup with 11s. The action's about medium high - kinda like a nice acoustic. It certainly is convenient to have a dedicate slide guitar with crazy high action, but I inevitably put them back down, as I like to play other things too :-) The key is my light and resonant dunlop 212 slide. Great tone, with minimal fret clunking!
@JoelK5 жыл бұрын
How do you find the Guild? I was looking at maybe getting one. As always, love your videos and killer playing. Your stuff inspires me to play more
@EricHaugenGuitar5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joel! I'm always happy to inspire more playing! I love this Guild - very comfortable, smooth, easy to play guitar. The factory action is a little on the medium side with 11s - so country bends and shredding are not gonna work, but that could easily be adjusted if that's your thing. Tuning wise it'd give it a 8 out of 10. Hollowbodies tend to be more dynamic than solids, due to the thin top. 10 being a telecaster - those things never go out of tune :-)
