Ebike energy recovery system / regenerative braking any good? Engwe engine pro

Hi all, went out to get an answer on whether or not the "energy recovery system" on the Engwe Engine Pro actually works. Did a big hill climb and what I found on the way down was shocking!

fit the engwe split charge circuit you can recharge 2 additional 48v batteries via the regen (I carry 3 batteries, 2 in panniers) Gives me over 180 mile range 😎👍

Very interesting! My first ebike was a Specialized Turbo-X that had regen capability. I liked it a *lot* for the braking capability so I didn't have to ride the disk brakes down a long grade. But I didn't see much return on the recharging aspect...IIRC something like a tenth of what I expended going uphill. So it's very encouraging to see your results.

Hi Michael, thanks for watching. I expected maybe a 50% return with the regen but this test really blew me away. If you live in a part of the world where you have real hills to ride / commute on then this bike is a real contender for your money. Cheers

Thanks for sharing this info! I have often wondered if the PAS level the bike is in (0,1,or 2) changes the level of recharge. I don’t have prolonged downhills to test this, perhaps you could check and let us know. Keep the Engine Pro vids coming sir!! Thanks!!

Hi Happy New Year ! So was this e-bike standard with the regenerative braking system ? I have seen another video with another make of e-bike which had this type of braking system and it did seem to also work great ! Sounds like this could be a future design for all e-bikes maybe ? guess its all about how much it costs to add to a bike ! Another great video :)

Hi Neil, happy 2024 to you! This bike does come standard with the regen braking. The Battery management system and the controller have to have the regen ability and of course the motor needs to be a direct drive not a geared motor. The cost is a little higher for the above items but not a whole lot. The regen function has been around since the start of ebikes. It works very well in the kind of situation shown in this video but people who live in relatively flat areas are usually disappointed by the performance. You need big hills for it to work well. If you want a good commuter choice for say San Francisco California then definitely gat a bike with this capability. Cheers

I have the same bike there unbelivable,as far as the recharge goes they do recharge but it dissapates so quick its pretty usless,top bike though

Hi Steve, the regen mode works perfectly on big hills like in this video. Smaller in town rolling hills it doesn't do much to recharge.

@@lifebehindbarz60 Just what they sent me in a blurb. They say it will be released on the 9th which means we won't see it till Friday. Looks to be a Ranger frame, 26"X3" mid drive , air shock through fram lighter swing arm ,fast ace triple tree ft. Fork. A Actual Mt.bike. my only concern is Will it be a 1500 watt mid drive ,10 speed.🙂😊😀

It's the 9th and can't find the info. On Trident They promised. On a good note Ranger rear tail light /brake light has just left Chicago headed to Greenville Ohio . what do you know of Rangers New King Kong headlamps ? Have heard that the (5 Star manufactured product) is defective and goes out after 5-6 hours of use , this could be the reason for the 3 months delay in receiving the light . what I have heard is after use the light only burns 10% of total lumens and horn stops working completely .😢😢😢

Hi Tony, I'm waiting to hear back from Cyrusher about the Trident. I suspect it won't be a release until summer but don't know for sure. I hope what you have heard about the headlight is bad info, I've got one on order too and like you have high hopes that it will be a great off road light. I never use the horn so I really don't care about that, all ebike horns seem to be horribly anemic and project the sound the wrong direction so pretty useless even when they work!

Hi Tony, it's good to see others starting to do some real climbing with the Ranger. It doesn't surprise me that the Ranger can climb that, I do climbs like that all the time! The difference is he has a person behind him filming which shows the grades more truthfully, my chest mount go pro flattens out everything! It's called the gopro effect and is a very real thing, people go to ride areas that they see on youtube videos and realize the grades are waaaay steeper than they expected! Cheers

Most KZbinrs just ride around the block or to work then compare them to a moped style or surron type Bikes . keep making the best Ranger videos on KZbin .... Did Cyrusher send you a 20" to review ??? Looks like the New Trident is just a better nitro ..... They really needed to build it with a 1500 watt motor . I am still looking for Cyrusher to build a Better Nireeka Mega but that is probably 2--5 years away .

Hi Tony, I heard back from Cyrusher and unfortunately there are no Hurricanes or Tridents in the U.S. at this time. I was told both are still in the development stage so no firm specs yet. They also said I'll get one of the first once they get here to the United States. Hey. thanks for watching the videos, I have some great rides coming up for 2024! It has work well in all my Hobbies , I seam to be on the cutting edge of getting parts that will be 2 gen. From release ! Please remind Cyrusher to only use Air suspension on all of their Premium bikes , don't let they slip in the Mercedes/BMW QUALITY !!!
