Great video. I just had 2 of these delivered last week - we`re not bikers, they're for transport when under way with our RV. One of the problems with buying online is not having the opportunity to test the bikes first. The second is how to deal with defects. We've come undone on both of these problems! Firstly, these are BIG bikes. I'm 5ft 7 and find the handlebars weirdly high. They're like the chopper bikes which came out when I was a kid - I remember trying one when about 12 years old and finding it very unstable. I'm therefore very interested in replacing them as you have done. Secondly, both bikes are defective! The first one came with a broken cable, not detected until it had been assembled. This would appear to be a five pin power cable. We've sent photos but I don't see how I can undo all the cabling then identify and replace the broken one without some sort of engineer doing the job. The second bike came without any keys! I´ve taken the battery out of the first (dead) bike to be able to test the second bike. This re-enforces the need for a different handlebar, especially for my wife who's 1m 60cm tall (she's European:) First impression is of a truly awesome machine. I just hope we can overcome the not so minor problem with the broken cable and somehow make the handlebars feel more comfortable. As we start to get used to the bikes I can imagine changing the suspension would make a lot of sense.

Hi Mac, happy it gave you some ideas of what can easily be done to make it better. I hate it when I get a defective bike out of the box, do you try to repair it or do you send the whole think back? Please post here after you've dealt with the customer service department, I think lots of people would like to know how that all went. For me good customer service is a big factor in deciding if I want to purchase a bike. I agree completely about the weirdly high bars, wish the steering riser was about 6 inches lower and still folded. I understand you probably need the folding feature with your rv, but if not just put a normal bar stem on the bike with a set of bmx bars and it will look and feel much more normal. Funny you compare it to the 1970's choppers, that's exactly what I was thinking when I first sat on the bike! Best, Tom
@amac8483 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I´ll be happy to keep you posted. Re keep it or send it back - I think you'd need a degree in advanced packing studies to get it back in the box...... There were 60 staples in the thing! BTW, the rear mudguard (fender in American???) squeaks/vibrates terribly. I've removed it, squeak gone. I plan to get some rubber or non-slip washers as a fix - or should I just leave it off?@@lifebehindbarz60

The best upgrade I've done so far is to get rid of the tyres and put some kenda krusades on made a massive difference better range and grip. I tried the freewheel uohread but I couldn't get the gears to set nice as the chain would rub when coming off the freewheel but got a replacement original for £10 bargain. Great video and bike .
@TomsEbikeJourney11 ай бұрын
Hello, if you follow my channel you know how much I love the Kenda Krusade tires, they are awesome in all conditions. The tires that come stock on this bike are very cheap and thin, so not a big fan of these. There are a bunch of videos on youtube about how to adjust the derailleur to compensate for a larger freewheel. There shouldn't be any reason why it won't work well for you. Even if you don't go to a larger low gear I'd strongly suggest that the go to the smaller 11t high gear, it makes a huge difference when pedaling along at top speed! Cheers and thanks for watching

Great ideas and loved you took the time to explain each step. Thanks. Just bought mine and haven’t been able to ride, yet. My husband has as walke 7AWD I think we’re going to love both. Wanted mine to fold so we could take 3 e-bikes, without having to buy a 4 bike rack. Probably buy another like mine for smaller trails and in town rides. Thanks again. Hi . I like the idea of the dog harness and side bags ..do the bags inhibit riding ( knee knock) when loaded.also am I right in thinking the harness is called K9 -- what’s the name of the bags ( K9)?. What size is the harness .. brilliant mods..I have one of the earlier Engwe Pro’s ..covered early a thousand miles with my Terrier on the back I use mine for work ( pest control) .. I’ve changed the cassette also for climbing it’s like a Billy Goat now..also uprated the tyres to Kenda also pumped tyre sealer into the tubes ( that’s a must) and uprated the brakes .just subbed ( UK)👍
@lifebehindbarz609 ай бұрын
Hi Alan, thanks for the comment! I'm sorry to say I don't have a model number for the bags. I think that any bags of the same style will work well though. I liked these in particular because of the sort of tear drop shape of the bag, it fits the space very nicely. They are completely out of the way for me with no knee rub whatsoever. It's awesome that you get to ride with your dog! Mine are too large to ride with me although I have had my border collie in the trailer behind me for some shorter trips. You are right, with a gearing change this bike becomes a very good paved road climber. Kenda tires would be a definite upgrade as I'm not too big of a fan of the stock ones, they are very thin and I believe they provide a fair amount of rolling resistance, They are definitely prone to punctures. Kenda makes some great ebike tires. Cheers!

Thank you very much, the tires have tubes in them. If I were going to ride this bike alot I'd definitely replace these tires with something a bit more substantial, they are very thin and prone to punctures. Cheers

Nice! What rear derailleurs are compatible with an Engwe Engine Pro 750w? Also I see your Drift Maniac 8spd 11-32Tis. (Casette), how could you mount it if there are differences in the hub design?? :) The Clubman cafe bars 7/8" looks really nice! I have an MTB bars which reduced the height of the handle bar but yes, I cannot fold it.. Thank you for sharing and greetings from Skellefteå in the north of Sweden. (Do not forget to use winter tires)
@lifebehindbarz6010 ай бұрын
Greetings from the USA, thanks for checking out the video! The rear hub on the pro uses a threaded freewheel vs a more common cassette. Just use a freewheel with a standard shimano thread and you're good to go. I ended up doing the BMX bar install after I made this video (you can check out that in my regenerative braking video) even though I did like the clubman look. I've been told that a low folding bar stem is available from Engwe so that you can use the BMX style bars and still have the bike fold. I haven't looked for this stem as I like the setup currently on the bike. You can use any long cage shimano derailleur for an 8 spd system, they should all be indexed the same to work with your bar shifters. Cheers

Hi, thanks for the video.... Just a random question, my wife has the EP2 PRO, has anyone had any oil leaks from the rear motor casing, I wiped it off the first time from new and now after a longer ride there is like a fine mist all around the wheel, maybe the motor has a lot of lubricant in it, and it will settle after more miles.... Just thought I'd ask. Thanks
@lifebehindbarz603 ай бұрын
Interesting, sorry but I've never heard of that issue before. The motors have a thick grease in them so there shouldn't be an oily mist from them. Not sure what that would be without seeing it. Cheers

Since the shock is slightly longer the top bolt / spacers need a little extra clearance.

Hi! Do you think it would be possible to increase the power? Like putting bigger engine or actually adding a second motor up front?
@lifebehindbarz607 ай бұрын
Hi Michal, sure, adding a front hub motor, a second battery, a 750 rear hub motor are all possible and not too difficult to do. The question becomes do you put that time and money into this bike or do you just get a different bike that better suites you. For the same money you can get a much faster bike with a torque sensor (so important to a smooth comfortable ride), bigger wheels to smooth out the bumps, etc. I'd say if you are hurting for higher speeds you are ready to upgrade to your next bike! Cheers

My honest opinion would be 75% improvement, let me explain Freewheel 25% Rear shock 25% Front forks 25% Handle bars are a definite No No, for a motorbike I would say a yes because a motorbike never has to be placed upside down to do certain maintenance work, on a ebike they look upside down and the display screen is just screaming "I'm going to face plant you in a accident" Apart from that you have given me room for thought in upgrading my cyrusher Kommoda and I thank you.
@lifebehindbarz60 Жыл бұрын
Hi Pete, yea bars are kind of a personal preference, I like the look of the clubmans and I never have to turn my bikes upside down, I have stands for that! Cheers
@Joerides7 Жыл бұрын
Nice upgrades, well all but the bars. Sorry, but not for me. I like BMX bars and the folding option isn't important to me. Where did you get the sleeve you put over your battery on your Ranger? I'm losing a lot of range and need to wrap my battery with something. Bakcou makes an electric thermal wrap, but I'm not sure I need to go that far.
@lifebehindbarz60 Жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, I thought I'd try the clubman bars to lower the bar height and cover up some of that incredibly long riser! But the big long riser still bugged me, so I've already done the swap to BMX bars! It's a way more traditional bike look now and doesn't remind me of a senior mobility rascal scooter!!! Sorry but I don't have the Ranger battery cover info here for me to check. I know several people have asked that and I've posted the info before, so if you go back through the comments the info is there. It is a big improvement in cold weather and helps with battery life. Cheers

I am 70 years old and I am 5'5". I weigh 70 kg. I want it to walk, mainly on steep mountain trails. I don't need speed, but I do need it to be able to climb steep trails without having to pedal.

Hello Pablo, welcome to the ebike family! My best suggestion for you would be to go to local ebike shops and try out the bikes they sell in person. After doing so some people are impressed with the power and some are disappointed-- thinking they would be more like motorcycles. Until you try some out you really don't know if you are even going to like the ride they provide. Sorry, but that's the best advise I can give! Cheers

Hello. I have an Ado Beast bike. When the bicycle fork(shocks?)extends there is a metallic noise. I think it comes out too quickly and then there's a bang. Is that also the case with the engwe? Do you know whether the original engwe suspension fork is identical to the one from Ado? could the fork you installed also fit my bike? I'm from Germany. my school English is totally rusty.sorry
@lifebehindbarz6010 ай бұрын
Hello Norman, no worries, your English is better than my German! I can't tell you if the fork on the Beast is exactly the same as the engine pro, but I can say with some certainty that the internal design of both forks is the same. Your fork has a spring inside that is supposed to absorb the energy when the fork tops out as you describe. Sometimes the top out spring is very rigid or just too short (I've even seen a urethane bumper used) so in either case it's ineffective when it comes to providing a smooth clunk-free full extension. It won't hurt anything but it is very annoying when you are hearing and feeling that all the time. You can open up the fork (remove the two bolts on the bottom of the lower fork legs) and see if there is a fix for this, ie a different spring or bumper that you can install. The Bucklos fork I show here will work fine on your bike, just look first to see if you need a tapered or a straight steerer tub. I like this brand and have had good luck with them on fat tire bikes. Easily adjusted, lots more travel, and no clunk! Cheers
