Here's how I managed to fit my rear brake to the MXUS 3k turbo V3.
I was in a very good mood because I'd finally fitted it and, as a result, I was rather chatty on the test ride......
These are the power supplies I refer to: goo.gl/UPcea6
They're good for 2a @ 76v but please don't go any higher.

Very sound engineering job on your brake mod Tony, and your bike ride comments were hilarious. I really enjoy your videos and I’m seriously thinking about building an E-bike this spring because you’ve peaked my interest.

Tony, I know it’s hard to build an E-bike from scratch, but I’m not thinking of a speed demon like you’ve got... I’m thinking of more of a decent bolt on kit version. Got any recommendations?
@Vortecks
@Vortecks 6 жыл бұрын
All the Chinese bolt-on kits are good but I only have experience in hub motors. My first one (48v 1500w) was fantastic and did over 40mph but it just didn't have the power I needed.

Thanks for your responses Tony. I can’t believe that your bike does @70 mph. Well actually I can, you are a bit our there lol, but a damn good engineer. Cheers,
@Vortecks

It hasn't done 70....... yet. The max was 67mph (private road of course) but I've now upped it to 135a which should see 70 :-)

Tony, with much great interest leads to research, and what i found is you "can" in fact wire the regen breaking so that it kicks in when you pull on the brake lever and releases when you do on the lever, this serves 2 points. One being you will have greater breaking performance, and two, you will cut down on wear and tear on the brakes, they will stay cooler not having to work as hard. Hope this helps? cheers again pal all the best

I do have regen braking enabled on throttle release but I've disabled the e-brake because it only uses power. I don't need regen braking enabled on the brake lever because it's already maxed out at 5a on the throttle (the most that the batteries can handle).

I did think about it but I don't know if it's raised (sort of embossed from the inside) or it's a bit extra on the casting. Knowing my luck.........

Add some torque arms and spacers (which you will need) and you'll end up having to make the dropout wider, rather than worrying about it being too wide.

Did you ever look into some of them hand guard/shields to help block the cold wind off your hands? I bet you could even print some if you wanted.
@Vortecks

I did but decided against them. I know they don't weigh much but I've been on a weight-saving exercise in the last week and shaved just over 2kg. I'll bare the cold because it'll soon be summer!

Can anyone recommend the best bikes for these motors? Looking for a bike now.
@Vortecks
@Vortecks 4 жыл бұрын
Any bike will work but it depends on your knowledge level. A hard tail is easier to build because you haven't got the consideration of the rear suspension but it's rather uncomfortable when you're doing anything over 20mph.

I would've removed the logo off the motor... angle grinder, primer and paint on the lid. I don't think it's worth it to weaken the caliper adapter.
@Vortecks
@Vortecks 6 жыл бұрын
I've done nearly 1,000 miles with it now and it's still going strong. When I build V3, I'll be using a grinder to take the logo off!

I think there are a lot of people about now who dont have the same values or awareness of the beauty of the Uk. Also, in the school summer holidays, there's a significant increase in kiddy associated gack wrappers, tins and botlles on the grass verges. Must be those little buggers that are throwing used tyres out of the window too :) Good job on the brakes. They really do stop you on a sixpence.
