YES, please continue Captive Prince. It's sooo good. Tbh it's understandable that some people choose not to, totally valid due to the themes, but it's such an incredible journey, I feel sad for those who don't and think wrongly of the series, they're missing out a LOT. It's really good, the second book goes more into the slow burn and the politics.

I vote yes, continue Captive Prince. If the first book didn't turn you off, you'll LOVE the full series. It's also pretty short for a fantasy, so not an insane commitment!

I didn't really gravitate to Romantasy books. I like to keep my Fantasy and Romance reads separate - but I'm reading Reign and Ruin right now and absolutely love it - I also just finished The Legacy of the Brightwash and am completely obsessed with that series - I think I need to rethink my stance on romantasy 😅 I feel like I'm entering in my new era of reading

I am also currently reading Reign and Ruin (Elliot's recommendation 😉) and I am in love with it! I adore the blending of fantasy with romance ❤️ xxx

Quite a few books I haven't heard about yet, Quaintrell, Islington and especially Bennett are authors I really want to read or continue reading next year, Marth Wells is an all-time favorite of mine anyways, and a few of the other things at least piqued my interest, so they get at least added to my backlog. So thanks for sharing.

The books in the Howl's Moving Castle series are more like companion books, rather than a continuing story. I liked the 3rd book, House of Many Ways, more than the 2nd book Castle in the Air :)

For the second book in the Howl-series I would say stick with it, even though it might make no sense. I personally loved book 1 and 3 and can see why book 2 is needed :D

I agree, I was confused but the ending made the book better.

Always enjoy your book recs Elliot. Race the Sands was my standout this year, I also just finished Ascendant but that book felt like a Star Wars fanfic all the way down to the medieval lightsabers and shifts in the "force". I did like the writing though and found Holt constantly referencing new experiences/philosphies to cooking rather endearing so I'll probably continue on with the series. Rise of the Ranger and Spin of Fate are already in my TBR and I'm definitely adding The Emperor's Edge.

Back on Ryan Cahill's Day of the Dragon I bought the first book of all the author's who participated and probably the first half of Quaintrell's books since Rise of the Ranger since it seemed the most interesting. I am planning on starting it up next year once I am all the way caught up with Cahill's The Bound and the Broken.

What is this?! A booktuber talking about The Emperor’s Edge? It’s such a fun series and I felt like the only person who’s ever heard of it.

Great series. Highly recommend. Also, Reign & Ruin and the whole series. It was winner of Mark Lawrence’s annual self-published fantasy contest a few years ago (SPFBO 7, I think).

The Ascendant series gets a lot more interesting in book 2. And it continues to grow in book 3.
