I hear. . .....decades ago -_- age 16 those 2 men took, and I only say this, so you know, I know. I only say it to ally with all those who know. And I still have my white privilege, a guilt, because I was also told to not be. So, I just want to say I know, because I will speak where my voice can add to, but never talk over. I'm here, being, now. Being an ally, because the torments are known, and they haven't killed me yet. So, I know, and I hear. I'll delete this in a heartbeat if I've overstepped. It's the "disappear" that gets into my soul, and I've hoped for the real black girl magic. You matter, and I'm very much OK with fighting for that.

Bertram Davis could you please explain a little further. I am a middle aged white male who has several friends and family members in loving interracial marriages. I personally see it as loving someone for who they are, not what their skin tone is. I’ve never thought of it as being an oppressive or negative thing but I’m open to others opinions. Kind of sounds like a reverse racism to me, unless I’m not understanding you correctly.
@wavingcat5
@wavingcat5 4 жыл бұрын
I might be wrong as I am not Black (I’m mixed race Indian). But it seems to me that although interracial relationships aren’t bad, what it is is that white women are preferred by EVERYONE, that prejudice embeds itself deep. So when there is a Black man who is with a White woman, there is a sense of how hard it is for Black women to be met by the man who could truly understand what they have been through.

And not to divert from what she is talking about but white women are routinely victims of sexual harassment from Black men it's much more common and happens much more often than the other way around. It also stems from a Racial Fetish but if it was to be talked about in the same way as this focusing completely on the race of the perpetrator as if it's inherent in black men to do so it would suddenly become offensive to a lot of people.

I hope over time you reread your comment and denounce it wholeheartedly..... If you care about her trauma, trying to control where she expresses it and how isn’t the best way. Caring about her trauma, mental health, and well being does not look like criticism and judgement. It looks like support and empathy. She is allowed to make art that invokes emotion for herself and for all of us. As a poet, that’s her job. To move us through compelling words and perhaps make us think deeply. She did that three times over. So much so,that it brought an uncomfortable feeling up inside of you about sharing deep feelings with others that maybe you should talk to a “someone” about. Just saying, at this point I’m concerned about YOUR trauma. Hope you can get what you need.

Standing in solidarity with my black brothers and sisters. Those of us with privilege need to have our noses buried in the literature of James Baldwin, Cornel West, Martin & Malcolm. We need to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those marginalized peoples out in the streets, fighting to be recognized as full citizens. We need to keep our eyes OPEN and bear witness to injustice, and ALWAYS keep track of the least of these. And we need to keep our ears open, so they can tell us things we cannot possibly know ourselves, as white men in a white supremacist empire.

White Men Say Weird Things To Me is a powerful and beautifully written poem. Ebony Stewart has captured the terror and resulting generational trauma experienced by Black women and girls daily. The trauma and historical generational terror experienced by enslaved African men, women and children. A terror that has never ceased. A terror enforced and born of White male privilege and entitlement. An ingrained belief in the ownership of Black bodies. Her's is not an isolated incident. Rapes of Black men, women and children are embedded in the very fabric of American history. The fathering of children and selling them into slavery for their true god MONEY. A land founded on predatory sexual abuse and deadbeat dads

I have a friend I know writes poetry. One day he asked me was I a true friend. I said yes. To my death. He then told me where his writings were and asked me to promise to take them and burn them and never read them if he died. I understood he was being sincere and very serious so I agreed holding my hand to my heart but I asked him why. He told me that like all poets before him he had exaggerated the truth and made it sound like a lie and went on to say his writings will bring nothing to hearts and minds needing a newness.

People in here arguing over silly things, SHE experienced this, this is HER journey, the fact that people feel they have to say all white men arent like this, is irrelevant. No white man can apologize for her bus driver, because he was born white, stop trying. Listen! Acknowledge that she felt that. Stop trying to exonerate or indict. There are good and bad in every culture, race, and country, for every example you give, someone can give one back. Doesn't mean she didn't experience what she experienced. And it doesn't mean anyone can apologize for it. Except the guilty party.

Disturbing, but we all need to hear this. As a mixed woman who has dated white guys, I'm always second-guessing whether they would take me more seriously or treat me better if I were white. Most of them have been European, to escape my own country's (US) screwed up racial dynamics. But either way, there were too many disappointments that I know I did not deserve. It was hard enough dealing with all that. I can't even imagine what my darker-skinned sisters go through. It makes me sick. Where are the good ones, supposedly woke and protesting these days? Please educate your fellow white men that they need to treat ALL women with respect.
