I know a lot of women who didn't have long hair until they were older. I feel they didn't have the information needed to ensure hair growth. Once they learn how to take care of their hair it grows longer than it has ever grown previously in life . Ayurvedic herbs such as Amla, henna, Shikakai, Reetha grows hair. Do you're research. Look at videos of people who don't mind sharing the real solutions to helping you on you're hair growth journey. You're hair grows at your own paste.

Hey I am a chemist. Hair is made up of different proteins. Protein is composed of amino acids. Curly hair has more sulfur containing amino acids. The sulfur creates hydrogen bonds with neighboring amino acids causing the proteins to fold, or curl. When you apply heat or relaxer, you denature the proteins, breaking the sulfur hydrogen bonds making your hair straight.
@MissNolver5 жыл бұрын

For people saying her tips wont help 4c hair, my daughter(13 and 5feet tall) has thin strand, coily, soft, porous hair...and she swims. I have been able to grow her hair to midback after I realized that I couldn't just rake a comb through it wet even with conditioner. It had to be damp. I realized that I had to keep it stretched with braids or twists or a bun(constantly protected the ends. Sometimes I would have to detangle with my hand first before a comb. It was a treat to wear her hair out or straight and when she did, she loved it. Her hair loves a little castor oil or shea butter...but I use light olive oil the most after I condition it. I will admit, her hair would be longer if she didn't swim in the chlorine, but she hates swim caps. 4c can have long hair.

Yes! This is proof that women of African, Afro-Caribbean or African-American descent, can have long hair. No need for ignorance anymore 😉 I'm amazed at some ignorant comments I also read in the comment section. It's genetic when your hair grows fast *without* doing extra things to your hair. But taking care of your hair and then have a speedy hair growth, has *absolutely nothing* to do with genetics. I'm a chemical engineer so I'm looking at things with a scientific view. The reason why her hair has grown so long, is because she is *feeding* her hair with nutrients and moisture. That will *always* cause your hair to grow! I guess those negative people don't believe in any of this. And because of that reason, their hair will stay short unfortunately. It's in your *own* hands, not in someone else's.
@sarak44185 жыл бұрын

But her hair is still kinky/woolly and she is still black for the most part and *THAT* is what counts.

Black or curly hair grows naturally. One instance in particular, dreads grow often down to the floor. The hair grows and with almost no manipulation it can grow to the floor. Some people say dread locks are broken entangled locks that have broken from the scalp but continue to be attached to a lock making the hair appear longer than it has actually grown in one unbroken lock. Nonetheless the hair is still growing from the scalp... The true trick is keeping the hair moisturized enough so the hair does not break due to brittleness.

First, your hair is absolutely beautiful! I'm a new subscriber, and I must give your video a huge AMEN!! I went from 30 years of perms (salons and do-it-yourself) on my almost-shoulder length hair to a big chop in 2018. I didn't step foot in another salon for two years, just doing my own twist outs. Then I learned from KZbin that I needed to have my ends trimmed periodically. I went to a salon for a silk press and trim, and was STUNNED at the length my hair had grown in that short period of time! I went back to the salon a year later, and again was surprised at the growth and health. Today my hair length is almost to my waist, strong and healthy. I get it straightened and trimmed around 3 times a year. To reiterate what you said, minimal heat, nor chemicals, good quality products, and trims 3 to 4 times a year will make your hair grow! I'm a witness! To this day I only go to the salon for trims. Otherwise, I do my hair care at home, and I'm 64 years old!

Everyone can grow their hair even if they don’t have softer curls or a softer texture; you can have the dryerst, most brittle hair on the planet and if you find yourself a great protective style and look into Indian hair care you could achieve this length in two to three years. This is coming from someone who has been doing this for just six months and has witnessed a gain of length extending from my armpit to almost my waist. Just be patient and resist the desire to style for a while and you’ll get 99 percent retention. Skip the thousands of products and routines-the longer my hair has gotten the more simple my routine is. When I get to my desired length I will wear it out more but for now, I wear it protected as much as possible because I don’t want to wait six years to get to this length.

That probably means your hair is breaking off at the same rate it growing. All hair grows (expect of you have a special medical condition) You could try protective styling ex. boxbraids , low manipulation styles ex. chunky twists out once a week, heat protectant, or my personal fav: regular protein treatments.I use aphogee 2 minute keratin treatment, 30 mins for once or twice a month and my hair has finally stopped breaking off. I've gained about 8 inches the year and a half i've been using it, and I've been natural for about 3 years. Hope this helps

I did my big chop in September 2016 and back then my " natural hair " was to about my ears and now my hair is at my shoulders and I'm so shocked because my hair has never grown this fast in my entire life. Here are my tips on how I did it, (important: i have a 3b-3c hair texture so as it worked for me, it might not work for you. But hey! Everyone's hair is different) So here's what I did 1. Cut out the heat tools 2. Don't wash your hair everyday, wash it every 3-6 days depending on your hair texture. (With shampoo & conditioner) 3. Co-wash your hair 2 times a week. 4. Don't put your hair up in a bun/ponytail very often. 5. Don't wet your hair when not necessary 6. Deep condition once a week 7. Be carefull and gentle with your hair 8. Drink lots of water, (this can also prevent a dry scalp) 9. Massage your hair with some coconut oil every now and then 10. Love your hair!

@simpleeye79505 жыл бұрын
ThatChickKim I'm aware of long-haired 4cs, never said a 4c couldn't have long hair. I'm also subscribed to the people you mentioned 😀and love that their regimens/techniques vary even though they have similar textures. I too have long type 4 hair, with a different regimen than any of them. My original point was that different hair textures respond differently to certain techniques. What it takes to stretch my very tightly curled hair for example will be a bit different than what it takes to stretch hers for example since she naturally has much less shrinkage. This makes our styling process a bit different and the style may even look differently on both our heads even though it's technically the same style. In other words, I'm not going to copy her process expecting my hair to look/behave exactly like hers. So no, I don't look to her hair as goals. It's not a bad thing, it just is. Each natural has to ultimately figure out what works best for them. I personally don't do the loc, loco, or lco method and my hair thrives on it. The only product I use is a glycerin-free leave in as my styler after a wash and I'm good to go.

First, I love your glow in this video! As far as relaxers, I was getting them for manageability, despite the damage. I felt that it was my only option for wearing my hair neatly and presentably. I knew my hair wasn't growing or healthy. My mentality was that it was a sacrifice I was making to have pretty hair. It wasn't until I realized that my hair could look much better, thicker and shinier natural that I stopped relaxing. I had been relaxing since toddler age so my learning curve was steep. 10 years later and I realize that simplicity and consistency, as you mentioned, is key. I have containers full of products that I no longer use, but my hair began looking much better when I eliminated them and narrowed down to 2-3 products: conditioner/deep condition, sealer and styler. I also eliminated heat styling and just listen to my hair. Some people can handle heat, some people can co-wash, some textures are drier. We need to become experts on our hair, then give it what it needs in the simplest form.

Minimal Assembly What's your regiment? Please help a confused af chick out.
@minimalassembly78937 жыл бұрын
Hey. My blog hasn't been updated with a new regimen so this is what I do currently: deep condition on damp hair with any silicone-free, natural conditioner (Dermorganic brand, Biolage balm or Camille Rose), shampoo with any gentle or moisturizing cleanser with or without sulfates (Paul Mitchell Awapuhi or Andre Walker gold), rinse, use more deep conditioner diluted in water as a leave-in with a few drops of oil, then add gel or cream styler (Kinky Curly custard or Andre Walker creme gelee). I seal with a few drops of same oils added to my leave-in (Apricot kernel, Argan, Jojoba or Kinky-Curly polish Argan oil blend). My hair is 4a/4b low porosity. Your hair may prefer deep conditioning after shampooing instead of before. Your hair may also prefer different products + oils. Experiment to see what works. The point is to find a good basic conditioner that moisturizes your hair so you can build a cleansing and styling routine around it. It will allow you to use minimal product in your hair at one time (i.e. using same deep conditioner as leave-in and moisturizer during week when you add drops of oil). Then from there you can find a shampoo and styler that you like without worrying about moisture. Finally, when my hair was really dry, another KZbin commenter mentioned adding olive oil to shampoo in addition to regular conditioning. That helped increase my moisture retention before starting a regular routine.

ty for this cause this has confirmed what I've been doing. I've been relaxer free for 5 years. I've stop coloring a year ago and the result is my hair has grown from a very short cut to a bow nearly shoulder length. My hair has hasn't broken off since the change these few years. Also people do me the same way and ask "what are you doing to your hair?" I wanna tell them everyone is different and products and things varies from everyone genetics and also I dont put heat to my hair. My mother has very super curly hair and my son as well and I didnt know that my hair was similar until NO chemicals were in my system. So lovely video and thank you.

This is very true. After i started relaxing my hair i noticed it stopped growing but i wasn't sure if it was the relaxer so i decided i would take a 1 year break from the relaxer and you have no idea how long it grew just in that year. Now my hair is longer than it has ever been before.

Yes I went through the same thing. Its like my hair only stopped at shoulder length, now it can grow past that.

Everything you said is correct. Taking good care of hair, especially when it gets long, can be a chore but it's so worth it. Keeping the hair moisturized is the key. Great information. Thank you!

Yes great analogy. I use that analogy. Funny! If you saw me in the store, you would wonder why I did not fix my hair...very unkempt. I'm an old girl now (58), so my hair grows very slowly. And, I'm relaxed. I do plan on chopping off my hair, but let me enjoy this-- first for awhile. But, I am looking forward to being natural again.

Thank you for making this video. I appreciate you sharing three great points: stop relaxing, reduce heat, and tie hair in scarf and/or bonnet at night. Great points. You mentioned feeding your hair but never really went into detail- unless I’m mistaken. I know this video is old but I hope you have time to reply. Thank you.

I strongly agreez!! I use to cringe at ppl usin tonz of direct heat while transitionin o.o... They whined and paid for it later. My whole thang is....i was relaxed and a straight hair chick for 35+ yearz (soon to be 48 yrz old Jan 11th), so i dont care to have straight hair really while natural. Da closest i will get to straight feelin hair will probably be roller setz sittin under a dryer (ive only done one, back n transition dayz lolz)....or blow out with a blow dryer on cool shot only, which i havent done at all. Love my curlz and shrinkage plus heatless stylez. Health over length is more important for me now. Ive had long hair many timez n my childhood thru relaxed hair life. Not a priority with me. Love ur hair and these vidz diva!!!! Happy holidayz to u and everybody n commentz!

I found out that all my hair issues were because of shampoo. I quit shampoo and started using goats milk baby soap, and my hair shedding and brittleness stopped completely. It is now very healthy and growing well. My goal is waist length hair. From a pixie cut an year ago it has already grown up to my shoulder in 1 year! So I am hopeful. :)

I kept my hair in weaves for a year and my hair grew tremendously. I took my weave out last month to wear my real hair and it was two different textures because I had relaxer on the ends still. and my leave out was short because I was flat ironing it on a regular basis to blend it with the weave. I started flat ironing my real hair almost everyday and started breaking off crazy. Hair everywhere all in the sink the floor. I was done! I finally cut off the relaxed ends to the best of my ability and now wearing crochet braids as a protective style until my next weave. I learned that put your hair away and don't mess with it and it grows. The only thing I did while wearing weaves was wash the weave every 2 weeks I didn't oil my hair or deep condition none of that. And my hair grew to the longest it had ever been in my life. I actually prefer to wear weaves that way I can style everyday

I had my hair cut into a short curly bob that was tapered back in May 2013, since I didn't know how I would look with a really short cut either. I completely understand that different things work for different naturals with how to retain length, since all of us have different genetics.
@yobiwolrd077 жыл бұрын
It's her genetics! To imitate all that she does to her hair wont get it this long even with the best hair care
@EbonysCurlyTV7 жыл бұрын
+Yoshi more Not sure if this was your intention, but please don't discourage people in my comment section. Everyone's hair grows (barring a medical condition). EVERYONE. I myself didn't even think my hair could get to this length (because it never did) until I stopped putting relaxers in it. Like anything else, great results require a lot of time and attention. I definitely think anyone can get their hair to any length they want. I just don't want them measuring their length of time to mine. That part varies heavily from person to person. I hope you were still able to walk away with some good tips. Good luck in your hair journey.
@yobiwolrd077 жыл бұрын
No one is discouraging anyone. simply said that genetics played a big role in you growing your hair to were it is at but if that comment is seen as negative than it's your comment section and i don't really care to go back and forth with you keep your tips and thanks and feel free to block because I know that's what a different opinion gets you people

Thank you for being honest...I too, use to perm my hair for years and I am a lot older than you are. But recently I retired from my job after being in the office environment for more than 30 years. I said...as soon as I retire I am going nature, so I went and had 5 inches cut off my hair. Washed and conditioned my hair every other week and deep conditioned every three weeks and OMG, my got thicker, longer and it look like it was smiling at me. My hair is 1 foot and a half long today and still growing, ohh, I also bread it every night and wrap it in a silk head wrap. If I have a special occasion to attend I will bread-my hair until I get where I am going and maybe I will take it apart and let it fall or I will let it stay in breads with hair decoration. Yes I agree GET RID OF THE CREAMY CRACK and your hair will show you love. Your hair is beautiful!

I was taught at school that hair length is to do with genes. Everyone is always saying to me, "how can a full black girl like you have hair like that" I know I have an Indian great grandma but I just tell them that I look after it well to give them hope. even though I don't look after it at all

Thank you for the information. I've trained mine to stay braided. I'm 5 months in without a relaxer. And I just trimmed my ends . So now I'ma rebraid it. It has grown quite a bit. From collar bone length the the middle of my shoulders in a matter of 3 weeks. I'm using this Indian hemp oil. Game changer foreal.

It's not about the relaxer. It's about getting relaxers TOO OFTEN. I know plenty of women w long lush thick healthy hair. They get relaxers two, maybe three times per yr.

All hair will grow if you take care of it. Relax, natural or locs. Ive had all three starting with big chop each time. Usually by the second year with good care my hair grows mid back length. i get tired after 7 years and just statt again. this time I decided to relax after my big chop from locs.Its just hair and hair styles. even in natural state hair can be damaged and break off.

Omg me too! As soon as i stopped getting relaxers my hair grew like wildfire! I used protective styles for years though! was always wearing a weave and a closure.... Then i took my real hair out this month and was like whoa! its much longer thicker curlier than i ever would imagine. I cant really even but it in a puff I realize cause its too long! Never thought Id have those issues 😂 The best part is i wore curly hair that looked just like my hair for years so it already felt like i had the length. then to see i actually DID was like... a miracle! I used hair from hersisterhair co!

I was waiting to hear that: the 'hairdressers were hesitant about putting relaxer in my hair back to back' and 'I only had relaxer 2/3 times a year.' Chile! If I didn't make it to the salon to get my roots touched up every month (or 2 if in braids,there'd be HELL to pay. Now I know why you have the quality of hair you do. Not to say that black women can't grow long luscious hair (my sis -4b- has super l o n g thick hair like my mum-4c, super coarse), it's the gorgeous wave patterns that had me intrigued. Your natural beauty only shone through once you stopped suppressing it with relaxers.💡 LOVE your hair 🥰
