To answer some of your questions or queries I would say that we do not fire an Akeron missile on a Toyota pick up but rather a 40mm HE shell the Akeron missile is reserved against heavy armored vehicles like M1 Abrams, T-72 80 90 or 14 Armata, as for the lack of a coaxial machine gun it is useless thanks to the independent turret armed with a 7.62mm. As for the operation of the 40mm cannon and its shells and well contrary to what you say it has already done test campaigns in Africa. Once again it is not an MBT but a reconnaissance and auxiliary combat vehicle effective against all armored vehicles and intended to support, illuminate and fight with the new generation Leclerc. The Scorpion collaborative combat system is not limited to army vehicles but is also connected to the RafaleStandard F3 and F4 and surely to the F5, it can also be connected to the missile frigates of the French Navy for the launch of SCALP NG missiles. @gusgone452717 күн бұрын
Not so much actually but sales will prove the point. Other than in shit hole thitd world countries of Africa etc. The recon role has taken on new meaning. ELINT is probably just as important or evem more important than the traditional observe and report. Hence recon vehicles for modern near peer conflicts all have receiver masts and/or tethered drones to passively collect data. It could be as varied as triangulating the location of drone operators OR detecting EM emissions from vehicle engine management systems. Use your imagination. If you can think of it, someone much cleverer has already implimented it. The state of the art recon vehicles are packed with electronics to process, decript and diseminate data over a secure multi-domain network. Using all manner of classified systems. The processing power of the systems are very impressive. Trust me on that. The power and cooling requirements are just as demanding. All while remaining undetectable.

Excellent video that summarises well the interest and limits of this new vehicle. Some responses to the criticisms have been well provided by other contributors. The 40mm gun is sufficient to address most threats including IFVs and APCs; the Ukraine war has shown that, on a large front, heavy armors are not the most important issues, and the few AKERON missiles available are sufficient to deal with them. What is rightly pointed out however is the relatively small ammunition capacity, this may present a problem is a high end engagement. The drone threat is admittedly a real problem, and no current vehicle as a perfect solution. The 40mm gun is now used in a rapid fire CIWS system for the navy against drone, so one can assume this is a useful asset against medium size drones if the very good detection system extends to the air environment as well (even if 45° elevation is a bit short); one ca assume this will be completed by jamming equipment in the future. I think the cost factor has been fairly well taken in to account, particularly as Africa is less and less a target customer for France, which is reorienting its export strategy to higher income countries. The 40mm gun and shells are shared with the UK and likely to be used in an increasing number of platforms, including at sea, so cost per unit should go down. Finally, he vehicle is compatible with France's military tactics which, since mid-WWII, has been focused on speed and concentrated forces over a narrow field. It has demonstrated its efficiency over and over. if you take Ukraine as an example, clearly this is not a unit to use in static defense, but think of its usefulness and impact in the Kursk offensive for example.

You say around 10:30 that the 40 mm canon and its specialized AA rounds aren't "the ultimate solution and cannot deal with UAVs alone". Would you care to explain? You don't really give any arguments on this while the rest of the criticism is quite properly argued. You see I'm a bit skeptical because Thales just recently announced the integration of the cannon into the Rapidfire system especially designed to do air defense on land and sea platforms and is especially designed to be suitable for drone attacks.
@WeaponDetective18 күн бұрын
Anti-drone warfare requires levelled defence. A gun is efficient at only one level. It should be supported by missiles depending on the drone's altitude. Also, although 45-degree is a good elevation angle for a vehicle's gun, it is ineffective against diving drones from a higher angle. So, according to our analysis, it is not the ultimate solution and cannot deal with UAVs alone.
@lucaj813118 күн бұрын
@@WeaponDetective Thanks for responding so quickly! I agree that 45 degrees can be limited against some threats however I doubt we should expect every new land vehicle (tanks, IFVs etc) to have AA missiles in addition to its main armament for drone defense...
@mosesracal675818 күн бұрын
@@WeaponDetective I agree, hell even the development of an expensive round for anti-drone use is stupid because the main advantage drones have is not only that its small but its because its cheap to mass produce. 40mm for anti-drone work is way too big imo. @lukejackson157518 күн бұрын
@@lucaj8131 I would suggest also that the 180 round capacity may present problems when you have to deal with numerous ground threats and then aerial threats on top of that, especially when the aerial threats are in some cases cheaper than the 40mm rounds. Nowadays, most platforms aren't to be used isolated but by being part of a "system of systems". Analyzing the Jaguar without the VBCI, Leclerc, Griffon and theirs interactions with the infantry and the aerial forces makes it impossible to have a good grasp on the situation
@stevestruthers618011 күн бұрын
As usual, you deliver an excellent analysis, covering all the important points and more. To my way of thinking, the Jaguar EBRC seems more like a pure armoured reconnaissance vehicle than an armoured cavalry platform like the AMX-10RC was. The AMX-10, despite its age, probably works better for recce taskings that may involve some infantry fire support and anti-armour situations, while the Jaguar seems better suited for classical sneak-and-peek reconnaissance, where the goal is not to directly engage the enemy, but to detect them without being detected, and maintain continuous contact while relaying information about the enemy and their movements to headquarters units. The lack of a coaxial machine gun, and limited stores of 40mm CTAS ammunition definitely limits the Jaguar's ability to provide infantry fire support. Against infantry out in the open supported by wheeled or tracked infantry fighting vehicles with limited or no anti-tank or anti-armour capabilities, a Jaguar with its 40mm main gun could probably provide some degree of fire support and do alright. Although as you correctly point out, the 40mm CTAS system is overkill against light infantry units. But if enemy tanks are present, or they suddenly show up on the battlefield, then a Jaguar crew's job will become magnitudes more difficult. The two ATGMs that the Jaguar can carry are basically last-resort weapon systems, essentially there for defensive rather than offensive purposes. Another problem I see with the Jaguar is its size. It's big and thus relatively easy to detect. The ideal recce vehicle is something that is small and speedy, like the German/Dutch Fennek armoured car. Hard to see and therefore hit. To be effective, Jaguar crews will have to rely on carefully selected defilades and other use of terrain to conceal their position and thus compensate for the size and height of the vehicle. I agree that in a full-scale war, the Jaguar would have limited utility. In such a scenario, it would probably be best employed for classical reconnaissance, patrol, and surveillance taskings. However, that said, the Jaguar is a very interesting armoured vehicle and quite technologically advanced.

@@khaldrago911 the Uk has never won a war on its own. It always needed allies, and if I remember correctly it the Brits who at Dunkirk literally dropped their weapon in the middle of the fight and ran away.

Another outdated design designed for the last decade not the next, zero anti-air/drone basically makes this worthless.

Worthless is hyperbole

The big advantage of all French armaments is that they are incremental, when the directed EMP system is ready there is no doubt that it will be added to the Jag's armament.

@MegaTechGuy Are you stupid ? What do you think is the light turret with the 7,62 mm machine gun for ? It's coupled with a laser, so any drone has NO chance to touch it ! And talking about RPG, the light canon with its explosive amo can destroy them, but they also can add a 40 mm LGA (Lance Grenade Automatique) on top able to destroy rockets.

So if I understand all the armored vehicles in Ukraine and most in the world are worthless... Besides the Jaguar has a RVS with an elevation up to 60 degrees, not the best, but better than nothing, and jamming systems. Not totally worthless I think. The Jaguar has not been made for assault, that's why it is not the beast most of us would like ;)

@MegaTechGuy What other birlliant insights of hindsight would you like to share with us? Tell us what will be the dominant factor ~15 years from now so that the designers can heed you and design for that, because it's not like the 10-15 year lead time on design to service is going to change anytime soon.

…another garbage video about a well designed weapon. Weapon “detective” you’re drunk when talking non-sense 😮
