Bhutan is probably the slowest but the happiest country in the world.
Bhutan lies between Tibet and India, in the Himalayan Mtn range. It's a small kingdom where the land is 1/5 of Korea, with a 710K population.
Although they opened up their borders in 1974, they've been putting restrictions on the number of travelers to keep their tradition and nature.
The way to Bhutan gets difficult from the start. Rather than reaching there from the west side of the country with the int'l airport, it's faster to take the walking route. Once you cross the India-Bhutan borders, the uphill through the Himalayan mountain range goes endlessly.
Walking 5 hours in an ever-changing climate, the mysterious town located 11,500 ft above sea level, Merak reveals itself.
It's the home of Brokpa who are seminomads, and the place was kept from traveling by the Bhutan gov't. The gov't allowed traveling just 3 years ago, so the land still remains mysterious. The red clothes and unique hats are the main features of the people in Merak! The team was well welcomed with a traditional mask dance and heard stories of the tour guide, Linchen and his family.

I'm a Hindu. I believe in cremation through fire with or without rituals. But this video made me realise that the burial methods should not be "one size fit all". In India we have immense resources to cremate but the same can't be practiced in such harsh climates. So this method of cremation is highly appreciated. Because it's also scientific! Those food pyramids are not only for animals only but it should include humans as well... 🙏

We'll be eaten by something, above ground or under it. Only difference, humans don't get to see the underground feast. Today, I heard a special on NPR talking about this type of burial, but they were talking about it happening in India where the the vultures actually died after eating the corpses. Turned out that those dead people used to eat cow meat where the cows were given some form of painkillers. As a result of this, people stopped using this practice for their dead ones.

So the soul's final rest place / nirvana depends on how good the vultures, monks and family pray for the deceased during 49 days? Seriously? Budhism was brought directly from Nalanda the centre of university in india & not by the Chinese wife of Songsten gampo...before Buddhism came to Tibet Bonpo the indigenous religion was widely practiced.
