The first nonzero element in each row of an echelon matrix does not have to be equal to one (unity). The only requirement for the first nonzero element (the pivot element) is that it must be nonzero. It doesn't have to be equal to one.

what about one of the rules which says "leading entry in each row is the only non-zero entry in its column" on your work when we see your second column you have two non zero elements in the column?
