2005 Acura TSX owner here 9 years owned. 4 wheel bearings went out. Replace them with Timken bearings (father was a bearing inspector and he found Timkins to be the best). Alternator died early at 100,000 miles. Other than that its been good. Excellent design by Acura and has proven to be very reliable. I had an oil analysis performed on the engine and the results show its in great shape, low wear, and should last a long time. I'd like to keep the car for another 9 years. The real benefit that the TSX provides is the true ownership cost savings. Paid $12.5k 9 years ago and have no doubts it'll last at least another 7-8 years without any major repairs. The money I would be using for a car payment or repairs i spend on international vacations a couple times a year.

ZDriver1996 I’ll be 10years with my 04tsx manual , bought it with 47k now has 162k Only issues so far : Throttle position sensor died around 70k got a used one from a part out for 90bucks Air bag module died , don’t buy used I bought a few used ones on eBay . Just spend the $400 and get the new one from the get Driver side air bag sensor $90 Vtech solenoid Gasket and O ring $18 Had an oil leak I couldn’t find the source then I found this gasket is a known issue . Replaced it and no problems . That is all I have done for repair beside normal breaks and oil changes . Love my car . I just got it painted also and got new headlight purely for bad ass points . My car looks amazing still and people never believe it’s an 04 . My driver side seat needs to be replaced as the foam has worn and broke the plastic trim that hold the adjustments . So a quick eBay search or local part out I will solve this for around $200 tops. I have a euro R conversion and I love it when people have no idea what it is not believe its an 04 .

@@troytruong8246 maybe you got a lemon? I had some noisy wheel bearing after 8 years but weren’t bad. No other problems. Starter lasted 14 years. Suspension was fine until I blew out my front shocks jumping some railroad tracks :) . But yeah no res problems and she’s approaching 18 years old still runs like new

I have a 06 acura rsx type s, only thing I did for the last 5 years leading up to february 2020 (had 70,000 miles originally) was install coilovers (new oem outer tie rods as well), rear control arms, valve cover gasket, timing chain tensioner, and a mishimoto all aluminum x-line radiator with evans coolant (never wanted to worry about a leaking radiator or hoses at any point), weighted neochrome shift knob from blox (had a black one from moddiction prior) - At almost 180,000 miles I noticed a sound coming from the clutch which was the clutch disc was literally falling apart (the metal frame of the disc was cracking and part of the lips holding the springs broke off). Here's what I installed while doing this clutch job, most was necessary, but some was just precaution since I was already tearing everything apart: -act clutch -act hd pressure plate (not hard at all to disengage, engagement point though is lower so it wants quicker shifts which takes a little getting used to. I could adjust the cmc pedal rod, but I'm fine where it's at. I can rev to max rpm with no grinds between shifts) -act 11lb flywheel (not much lighter than stock, didn't want the extremely light flywheel for DD'ing) -honda throwout bearing (didn't want to risk aftermarket making sounds or going faulty prematurely) -wavetrac lsd (not needed, but wanted and boy does it make it feel like the wheels just pull the car from any stop or turn. Many times before a wheel would spin in certain situations and now I get practically complete control while accelerating) -syncrotech synchro kit (buttery shifts) -honda civic clutch master cylinder (oem will go bad due to built in dampener) -oem slave cylinder -denso starter (old oem starter would grind in freezing temps upon startup for the last 4 years, had a new starter sitting here for 3 years) -used oem low mileage power steering pump -oem lower ball joints -oem halfshaft (old one had play) -raxle axles (expensive, but not as much as oem and better quality than autozone.) -oem rear main seal (always replace this when replacing your old clutch) -oem exhaust manifold gasket (always had a leak on cylinder 1 and would get exhaust smell inside if I hit vtec -oem front wheel bearings (tested prior with no play, but the -oem lower control arms -oem vtec solenoid gasket (leaked) -oem axle seals -all bearings and seals in the transmission are replaced with oem -hybrid racing shifter bushings (less lateral play in shifter, still has some front to back) -hybrid racing radiator cap (mishimoto cap leaked) -have a k-tuned billet shifter arm (not their fancy 100% billet shifter) to install that might help with front/back play in shifter - Never had functional a/c until last year, but it wasn't 100% fixed and I'm currently trying to find this leak (already did the expansion valve, 4 o-rings attached to that, new compressor and drier) and now I have the smallest leak from the driver side axle seal. I did all this because I don't want to buy a new car and I enjoy driving this one. Car runs smooth and quiet, minus some very minor clutch chatter if I have to keep the clutch partially engaged for a short duration (like at the drive-thru). - Anyone with a tsx or rsx from these years this list is what you can expect to replace as it gets older. Engine runs perfectly smooth still....and this is coming from a guy who's oil drain bolt fell out and I was driving for a few miles without it :\ How do I know? Smoke was coming from underneath the car and I was still a few miles from the house, when I got home to inspect I saw nothing, but when I checked my oil I saw nothing on the dipstick....oh no...topped it off and next thin you know oil was touching my feet...wtf!?!??!?! My stupid cheapo magnetic drain plug had fell out and who knows how long the bolt was completely gone when I noticed the smoke. Put on my oem drain bolt, topped off and let the car sit all day to cool before attempting to start. I thought for sure I'd get some rod knock after starting it again. Engine was as silent as can be. This incident happened at around 90,000 miles. I hit vtec every day and commute 120 miles each work day. If you guys care to know what oil I was and will always use, pennzoil ultra 5w-30 with a royal purple filter.

I'm at 190,000 on a 2006 Acura TSX Automatic. The alternator was the first to go, then power steering rack was leaking, struts are OE but they need to be replaced, spark plugs and coils. That's it so far. Other things that did go out that I haven't fixed yet is the door regulator on the passenger rear, and 3 power window switches the springs on the actual switch made holes in the plastic switch. Three of those need to be replaced. I think it's worth keeping until it falls apart on me. I think it's a great car. The headlights though, all these cars even domestic the plastic headlights are always getting foggy.

Bought a 2006 TSX with 190K. I got all the dealer service records with it. Oil has been changed every 5K miles. All new tires, ball joints, tie tod ends, ac compressor etc, all done before I bought the car. Previous owner just had s new timing chain set installed before I bought the car. It uses no oil, leaks no oil. I an very picky and maintain my vehicles meticulously, so I'll have this TSX for years.

I have an 04 TSX at 195000+ miles automatic Navi. Fisrt purchased it with 120,000 used about 5 years back for 2500 because it was salvaged. Only issues I had was leaky power steering that in turn made my Alternator go bad(fixed) . Also I have a weird noise like when you need power steering fluid coming from the tranny. It only does that noise when in park. Been driving it like that for the past 2yrs. Drives and shifts fine.
@RomeroProd
@RomeroProd 4 жыл бұрын
MR SLEEPS its the input shaft bearing going bad in the tranny . I have 04 tsx also has 240.000 changed the timing chain recently and driving like a champ but the noise on the tranny is annoying has gotten louder and feel a difference in shifting so im about to swap it with another good one . I recommend change the tranny when it starts to get to loud . The cost to fix the single bearing is about 800-900 dollars and the oem bearing alone is only 25-30 bucks so labor is the issue here which rather swap the tranny .

I have a 2009, 6spd, nav, vortex blue pearl. I love it. It’s around 270k km, which is getting close to 180,000mi. I love my car. So far I’ve done the drive belt, tensioner pulley and idler pulley. And brakes lol. I think my calipers will be next. Never done the clutch yet as it’s mostly a highway driver 90% of the time. However I think I might need some bushings replaced because it’s difficult to put in gears at times.

Clutch slave cylinder doesn't go bad unless it leaks. Squeaking noise is from dried grease on the ball. Just put honda high temp grease on the ball of slave cylinder and on tips of fork fingers where touching throwout bearing~

For this engine master and slave cylinders are pretty easy to find and k-tune have their slave cylinder with deleted delay ... um... What's that called. Anyway. It's easy to find, buy and install, so I wouldn't even count it as a problem :)

Wasnt bad. I just do it when i get a new car. 2 of my calipers failed. But it took me 30 min to replace both and another 20 to bleed the lines. Has been a great car. NuTypeRacing well im glad u r happy with the car. But dumping money into an old car like that is a pain! I know because i have one myself. This car has lots of problems. My brother 03 acura tl didnt have these problems up to 240k miles. But the tsx has all kinds of problems from 100k-220k miles. Toyo or lexus or v6 hondas dont have these problems like tsx.

Troy Truong like many cars they will always have problems. To me this car in its 6 speed form will go out because it was one of the last double wishbone sedans acura made up on till the new tlx apec and type s. I fixed most of the problems with different parts. I almost fixed most of the problems, what seems to be a problem for most Honda’s is the A/C that is some what resolved till the compressor gives out again.

This car is great and better built than the 2nd gen tsx which is built very well. Some of the oem parts on the 1st gen are not that great like many hondas but if you plan on keeping the cars and especially if you replace some wear parts yourself, they are definitely worth it. Changing oil on the 2nd gen tsx was made intentionally easy and the brakes and rear hub/bearings can be replaced very easily compared to toyotas. If they made the v6 tsx with a manual I would own one

Only thing I notice is that the gas pedal or throttle has a weird delay/bogging type feeling if I don’t keep the rpms up. And no it is not bogging because of user error. Congrats on your purchase! You'll like the car. As for the bogging throttle delay, I'd try cleaning your throttle body (with throttle body cleaner) and seeing if that helps. You might have carb build up and the throttle body valve isn't opening/closing properly. Also check that you don't have any vacuum leaks or bad spark plugs. If you have a CEL code, run it and see what the computer says. Good luck! TSX are great cars.

I have a Honda euro (Australian TSX) it’s a 2005 with 59,000 kms. I’ve had it since new. The auto is nice but I’d recommend an oil cooler as heat is the enemy of the friction plates. Honda’s auto is more like a manual as it doesn’t use planetary gears like conventional autos. It’s small size means the plates get hot. As for the car, they are very good and I’ve never had an issue. The only reason I have such low kms car is because it’s not worth selling for what they get. I had mine flashed tuned to lower the vtec point and installed a rear sway bar. The advantage of the manual box is the ability to install an LSD if you want. That’s the one thing I’d like to do but sadly nothing suits the auto box.

Hey man. All 6 speed Honda/Acura FWD transmissions have weak synchros. It’s inherent design flaw from the manufacturer. Even the old 5 speeds have this issue. You want to maintain the problem? GM synchromesh OR amsoil synchromesh. Otherwise, a rebuild on second and third gear synchros is likely required. I hope you still have a clutch delay valve on the clutch slave cylinder as it decreases wear on the transmission

I wouldn't get the fancy battery like you got. Especially in LA where temps aren't an issue. Also in the future NSK makes the bearing. I got mine replaced. 48 bucks for the part. And if you have the tools to get the knuckle out from the front it costs like 50 bucks to press it out and put a new one in. I got my TSX to 195k right now. AC Compressor went last summer. Don't go by pricing by the dealer, amazon isn't a great resource either because TSX isn't often listed in "will this fit my car?" If you run into any problems about stuff just write and I'll tell you if I've done it before You mentioned you replaced the coolant on the car before. Is there a tutorial somewhere for that? I'd imagine it's easy but I haven't done it. Also how many miles have you had the syncromesh in there for? I'm thinking about that for my next tranny fluid change or the OEM like I did before.

So with a car with 167,000 miles you mentioned that if it has been maintained well, should you still be worried about replacing the engine anytime soon?

No IF you keep up with all the maintenance and dont drive it like an asshole your car should be good. I've seen older Honda's with 400k miles original motor still driving in good shape
