ECHO sent us their 58v Battery Powered equipment a few weeks back for us to test, share, and review for you guys. It's been about 8 weeks now, and I wanted to share with you guys a quick walk around and debrief on the OPE line.
Now most of you guys know I am a big fan of ECHO and their equipment, but when it came to battery, I was going to pass. After numerous conversations however, I came to find out the 58v line from ECHO had a few differences than the other brands I was using.
ECHOs battery items had a few features that were just not present on other brands. Including brushless motors, higher voltage batteries, (although the max amp was 4.0 for what is out currently), an ECHO Speedfeed head for the timmer, and an insanely powerful 500+cfm handheld blower.
All things being said, I am curious to hear your guys thoughts and opinions on the future of battery powered equipment. I think it totally makes sense for the average home owner out there, but I just don't see it yet for the contractor.
I know a lot of folks have marketed their business as "going green" and the fact that they can reduce noise pollution, but I personally am not yet convinced. After trying a bunch of equipment from a bunch of brands, I feel there is still progress and strides to be made.
I feel we are headed in the right direction with run time and performance, but I still feel we have a lot of room to grow. Perhaps in the future, battery OPE may be the way to go as technology progresses. What do you guys think? Leave me a comment down below!

Brian's Lawn Maintenance I still like my gas equiptment better. Battery technology has come a long way, but I still like gas better. Maybe one day. I do like battery hedge trimmers. Three things must happen: 1 more power 2 lower prices. I find that most equiptment costs about the same or MORE than gas equiptment. 3 batteries that don't give out after a while. I heard some batteries are cheap and give out quickly. They do have advatages: Eco friendly Quiet Low Maintneance More compact

The echo chainsaw and string trimmer are pretty solid. I use the trimmer on a day where I do small yards, works great, one charge, no starting, no fill up. The chainsaw is a beast. I've brought it out to jobs (along with my gas saws) and never had to pull out my gas saws. BUT the blower runs out of charge too fast.

Awesome video I use the same mower, blower and trimmer. The trimmer can be used with the same optional attachments and the gas version. I use the stick edger and a sweeper attachment with mine. You can also purchase accessories like a side discharge and mulching attachments that fit on the back of the mower. This is also Toro striper kit compatible. The blower is strong but a little unruly... the nose opening is to wide. Mower cut quality is great especially compared the the Ego I used to own. Great purchase for anyone who doesn’t not like fooling with gas and oil and belts...

I love Echo, have been in love with Echo for a long time, and now I'm trying to switch over to all electric lawn equipment. Started by switching to Echo Electric Blower, which is now my favorite blower of all time, and about to switch to Echo Electric String Trimmer from SRM-225, which I have loved my 225. Get's alot of hate, but if you have solid technique and line (Echo Black Diamond), that thing will wreck anything. Now I understand if your using this equipment for commercial use. I was the head groundskeeper at a Christian Camp this summer and we ran Echo 225s, I would usually run one for at least 7 hours a day, and that chewed through gas, so I could see you would have to have spare batteries always on hand or have one or two always charging, but for a home owner I think it would be good to make the switch. I've also been using a Fiskars Reel Mower, trying to get my Bermuda down to 1 inch (Shout Out to All LCNs out there). But hopefully soon I'll be off gas and all electric. Love Echo, they are the BEST!

I actually want to try the string trimmer and blower in my business for 2019. We service a lot of yards per week, so it would be a workout on the batteries for sure. I currently have a 2000 watt continuous power inverter in my pickup and run a mini fridge in the back to keep bottled water cold for the guys. That works great, and just the savings on the time going to the gas station to get ice and the cost of ice has been reduced significantly. People get a kick out of seeing a refrigerator on a truck, but it works great. Anyways, since I have the inverter already, I could easily plug in multiple chargers. If I went with the 4ah batteries, I believe we can get 3-4 yards done on one battery. Have a reserve battery on charge ready to go and the recharge time is only an hour. If the batteries will hold up, two batteries per device should be all I really need I believe. Echo warranties the batteries for 2 years from my understanding. This setup could potentially save a ton of money. First, we drop about $25 a month on 2 cycle oil, plus the cost of fuel. Secondly, save time on labor from swapping out a battery about once an hour vs refueling every 2 yards. Third, and this is the big one, time on dealing with weed-eaters that don't want to start, carburetor problems, and constant maintenance. Efficiency is everything in this business, so I think it is worth at least a small scale test.

How did it go last year running the battery stuff? I've decided to do that this year. It made a pretty healthy investment of about $1,500 in a few different lines to see which was the best. I'm hoping it's going to be a good choice! I will be running all electric actually. I have DeWalt, Ego, and Echo. I've done some smart shopping on Marketplace and stuff so I haven't paid full price for anything. I wanted to figure out which brand name would be best, if any, before I put any more money into a specific brand. We will see which one works the best but I'm interested in your opinion on how it went for you?

Thanks for the video. Enjoy watching it. You will come around to the electric equipment in the next few years I think. Eventually anyway, it will all the electric. It is just a matter of time. Same thing with all forms of terrestrial transport including cars, trucks, semi trucks, motorcycles, planes and trains, well trains are already mostly electric even if they have diesel engines but that's a whole different video. I don't speak from a position of authority when it comes to outdoor power equipment. I have less than 500 square feet of grass at my house and the Arid Southwest and the only lawn mower I have is a $50 real style lawn mower from the Home Depot that was at the house before I even moved in. But, there are so many upsides: low noise - which is great for the individual machine operator as well as for everybody within hearing distance of the machine, lower vibration and fatigued throughout the workday, far lower total cost of ownership. It seems like the Mean Green products are the first real potential solution to the internal combustion engines of outdoor power equipment but from what I understand they have sufficient runtime to last all day in a busy commercial type of environment and used cycle. From what I can understand as an outside Observer it seems like the initial High Cost of purchase is the only barrier and that will come down in a relatively short amount of time. Anyway, thanks for the video have a good one.

I have a hybrid car .you couldn't give me a Tesla. I like the battery operated lawn equipment for one reason, they're quite. What's going to be implemented in the upcoming future, the stainable development BS LIE ! The choice or even what is allowed by ??? Or available to buy, During the reset there will be no private ownership of land cars trucks landscaping equipment. Everyone will be moved into a city that is smart that will be controlled by AI and a controller of human form. Also of the seven and a half billion people on earth , so they say. Seven billion of us shall be murdered . The culling has already started. And very shortly a year or less will get much worse. Average people are unable to understand this is going to happen if we don't do anything to stop them. In the meantime we have to live. good luck !

I have my own lawn business and have been using cordless trimmers, blowers and hedge trimmers. I use the Kobalt 80v line, the trimmer can accept attachments so I use that to edge. And I have the Kobalt 80v backpack blower. I can cut about 10 yards a day with my batteries. I got a deal when Lowes was offering a free battery with any trimmer or blower purchase. So I have about 8 batteries and they charge within 30 minutes. The only thing I have that's gas is my mower. I also have 2 Snapper 60v trimmers and a hedge trimmer. They work well.

I like my lawn green. Mowing that short it's never going to hold the moisture in. Utah is in the yearly drought cycle so once again I'm mowing as high as the mower will grow and only watering every 3 to 4 days. For me battery powered has a long way to go, but fine for small city yards.

In the video it was mentioned that a full 58V Echo battery could run 50 minutes in the Echo Lawn Mower when using to cut heavy grass. I have this lawnmower for more than two years and I have 2 echo 58V batteries that I use. My experience is that each battery is typically able to run about 35 minutes for low grass situations and about 22 minutes for Heavy thick grass. Your comment about a battery running 50 minutes for heavy grass makes me wonder if something is wrong with my mower. Did you make a mistake in the video or is your assessment for Run time still the same now?

I had the same problem when I first bought my EGO (not ECHO) Mower. The mower front coming up, What I did was move the handle to a low position so the tendency to push down was almost eliminated and I switched to the steel deck EGO mower and that seem to have more front end weight. I chose EGO instead of ECHO because of EGO's battery cooling technology is far superior, Very important because I live in Vegas and it can get to 118 easy and EGO has a 7.5 AH battery which make the EGO tools useable in my lawn care business.

I use a cordless trimmer/edger, hedge trimmer and blower, but I'm not quite sold on the electric mowers yet. I looked into lots of models last year when it was time to replace my 10 year old Toro Recycler but opted to stay with a new Toro gas mower. I'm sure they will have more improvements in the future as far as power is concerned with the mowers though.

Another thing that's worth mentioning on the battery powered things: just did some cost calculating for my electric car and in the last 9 months it has recuperated all of the cost of installing the home "charger" (through fuel savings) and over the next decade it will entirely pay for itself in terms of gasoline and maintenance savings. That is something unique about electrically powered tools which is completely opposite of all gasoline/diesel powered things. With a gasoline or diesel or whatever you spend a bunch of money on it to buy a brand new and then as you use it it continues to cost more and more money through expected maintenance and repairs as well as literally burning money in the fuel tank every day, and up until this moment in History Society has had to accept that because that is the best we have been able to do and that's just how it works. But not anymore/not for much longer. When making the shift to electric, it's exactly the opposite. Electric stuff literally pays for itself in fuel and maintenance savings in less than it's usefull lifetime. This is a complete paradigm shift and a game changer. It opens up there possibility wearing people who use electric things like cars and tools and such will be able to keep so much more of their hard-earned money for the work that they do.

It is true that fossil fuels are highly energy dense, tough to beat in that category. There's more energy in one gallon of gasoline then there is in theentire battery for my electric car, for example. But, my electric car can drive well over 100 miles, probably closer to 150 miles or so on the amount of energy contained in one gallon of gasoline it. But that same gallon into any internal combustion engine vehicle in your getting somewhere between 20 and 40 miles per gallon at best. The trouble is that when fossil fuels are burned a huge proportion of the energy is released as waste heat and a small portion of it is used to do actual work. In terms of efficiency electric is light years ahead (yes, I went there, ha!) but it is true that a fossil fuels are very energy dense.

I prefer gas mowers and battery trimmers blowers and hedge trimmers I’m a young one starting a business I had an old John Deere self propelled 21” and in 14 years My dadnever changed the oil OPS He sharpened the blades 2 times in 14 years and she ran great until the self propelled went and it was way to dam heavy to push. But now I bought a Honda self propelled mower and it’s great and I’ve found the ryobi battery trimmer and blower is great it’s cheep durable and has a great run time. I use the Honda mower and ryobi trimmer and blower to mow 5 lawns a week and besides having to stop and re charge the battery’s it’s great

I'd disagree. I use Ego powered everything with no problems. It takes forever to wear the battery charge and run time down to a noticeable amount and with a proper quality brand 2 batteries gives you just shy of 100% uptime. 3 gives you leeway long term. Obviously this dynamic shifts as you start to scale the operation though. But for a 1 or 2 guy thing, battery works fine. 1 battery lasts me 3-4 subdivision lawns and then just rotate between them. Most homeowners have a generator which you can take on the go to charge them already but if you don't it's a solid investment which isn't expensive, but most of my customers are okay with me charging at their house as long as I do a good job at a fair rate since the electricity cost is negligible.

I have the echo weed beater and I’ve had it for 3-4 years. Battery is very good and the feel Is similar to the lesco (rebranded echo) I used at the golf course for 7 years which is good. I have had no noticeable battery degradation. The feel of it being similar to the pro weed eater I used for 7 years gives me the confidence to attack 2-3’ tall growth around un manicured creek beds but if in “rabbit speed” it will trip some sort of over current or over heat protection. Honestly turtle is plenty to cut pretty much anything. And if I use the edger attachment off the other weedeater I have it all also tripped the overcurrent overheat protection I can’t tell which one it is. And other than that the thing is a tank if I leave it I mean I just leave it in turtle mode all the time and rarely have any issues also that whatever safety that it keeps tripping may not be an issue if he is the four amp hour battery but I don’t know about the 4 amp hour battery so I can’t confirm or deny that but overall after three years of use with this thing and after having some previous golf course experience it runs long enough to do everything I need to trim in my 2 acre yard and then some.

I own most of Echo 58v products. Sad to see they are discontinued. I love that the mower has two bays but I hate that you can only use one at a time. I’d love to be able to pull power from both batteries at the same time, in effect halving the amperage required for both batteries. Is it possible to modify the key to be able to run them both in parallel? That would be awesome if so.

There are a number of contractors in my area that are using lithium battery tools. It’s growing in numbers. They have multiple batteries with them and get the job done every time. Lithium-Ion powered Stihl and Husqvarna tools are the two main ones I see . Fast chargers can charge a battery in 30 minutes and give 40 to 60 minutes of usage. One hour of lawnmower usage creates the equivalent of running 11 cars for one hour. Also, the small spills (millions) people make filling small tools with gas all adds up to larger than the Exxon Valdez tragedy. It’s time we start looking at the bigger picture so we can turn this sinking ship (our planet) around and be the change we need. Every time we replace dirty energy for clean, we are making a huge step for everyone including our kids and Mother Earth. We all can not afford to drive a Tesla, but we can change what we can afford to change, a small inconvenience of waiting for 30 minutes for a battery to charge makes a great time to have a cold beer break (at home).

I know Echo has to compete with Stihl, DeWalt, and China in this era of "green technology" and interesting to watch progress but there's a long way to go. I've used Echo products for 30+ years, still running a PB-210E blower in 2018 and run cheap corded lightweight B&D hedge shears because they're efficient, easily replaceable. Exhaust fumes, weight etc. Homeowner grade but the battery tools just aren't close enough yet.

Honestly i think electric is the way of the future, We have mountain property in Colorado and one of our neighbors is a huge electric fan with tesla, solar, and such.. he has a 3 blade brush mower tow behind he has used for years behind atv's to cut his property, recently he replaced all 3 blade engines with electric motors, then put a single gas engine turning an electric motor that sends voltage directly to the 3 smaller electric motors. He swears that he uses less gas now and is able to cut his property in half the time, because he has the blade speed turned up 3x higher, so he can cut the grass in a single cut vs multiple cuts due to stragglers from old gas engines bogging down.

I converted my scag mower this spring to propane and just finish putting propane on my truck to save on fuel cost i am saving about one dollar per gallon an we are looking at batt trimmers and blowers to cut gas completely out my thoughts wes to put to golf carts wired together to make 12v and a inverter in cab for chargers and use truck to charge the golf cart batts with isolator so it doesn't drain main cranking batt under hood so then the truck will charge the batts for trimmer for no cost because i all ready have to start and drive between yards maybe also could put solar panel on top too to help charge it would cut fuel cost if it works

Brian's Lawn Maintenance I am not really "in the know" when it comes to outdoor power equipment, but they showed up on my KZbin feed the other day and I went over to their website and they look like they're pretty small, just starting out, but they seem to have gotten a little bit of a foothold with distributors across the United States and internationally as well. They've got a full line of commercial equipment from a relatively small, like 21 inch deck or something, walk behind household size lawn mower all the way up to a 40-something, 50-something, and 60-something inch deck sit-on style lawn mower. Supposed to have 7 hours of run time per charge and it looks pretty legit from my perspective. Again, not in the field of lawn care or maintenance but since I'm a big fan of electrification of things that showed up in my KZbin feed. They're based out of Hamilton, OH. Not sure exactly how close that is to you but it seems like you might be in the same neck of the woods so to speak. Meangreenproducts.com. of course I have watched all of their promotional videos on KZbin and they seem like they are really going after it and their stuff might just help you get one over by this battery / electric stuff. I double dog dare you to arrange to test it out, and put it on KZbin so I can watch it, duh. Have a good one.

I have Echo's weed trimmer and their others. I can use it in any yard that I use my gas. It's also great when I get an early start or late night cutting a customers yard. The noise is minimum. My only but big complaint is that the throttle trigger springs in it is too stiff. Makes your fingers tired when you use it for work majority of the day. The spring doesn't need to be so heavy. There's no carb or cables to pull. Hope Echo goes with a lighter throttle spring in the throttle switch. I would then use it full-time. I charge my batteries with solar.

Electric has a lot of potential. I like the Tesla analogy. Until batteries can outlast a fuel tank and the jerry can I have with me; or charge fast via solar on the vehicle roof, it's just not work it in the long run. Batteries are still hugely expensive. All these electric machines are computer/chip operated. (which in this day and age is built to fail) Parts for gas machines are easy to come by and for the most part easy to repair. That said if Milwaukee releases a quick charge, inexpensive battery system tomorrow... I'm in.

Id like to see the energy cost on charging all them batteries over the course of a month when you mow/trim/edge/blow off weekly. They cost much more upfront for quality battery equipment. You always need an extra battery/charger to get thru the yard. In the last month and a half ive used one gallon of fuel between my mower, edger, trimmer, blower. So we will say a 3 dollar operating cost. Can you keep all them batteries charged for under that? Can they hold up to weather? Cant always work in ideal conditions. Im gonna have to stay with gas for now.

Going green is fine. But what IF you only have 24 hours to get out of dodge with enough money for your vehicles gas and to go offgrid in the mountains or the bush. Your electric stuff won't work like a gas unit for clearing an area and building a home. Just my opinion.

Calebnoemowing, until an electric car can go 4,000 km on a full charge, I won't be getting one. A friend just told me that his landlord gave him 24 hours to move out. His car takes 36 hours to charge fully. Luckily he has his hunting cabin with a bad problem. No power there. Not even solar panels or windmill. He is trading his new car in on a gas jobber. All of his garden tools are electric. He's screwed. Lol.

My opinion on battery is I don't like them becuase half way through the job you run out of battery and I don't have a good place to charge them in the trailer, after half way through the season you need to drop $300 I battery's because they don't hold a charge any more. But in the future I see them take over gas!

The American people are so behind the Curve when it comes to the 21st century. The lawn mower companies are producing these mowers to last 4 years at the most. And then rebuild carburetor. All the advanced mower, comes with a gass cut off valve. So that you're able to burn excess gas that would sit and spoil while sitting in carburetor. Which completely destroys carburetor. Regular grass mowers are for professionals cutters for everyday use. While advanced mowers are for family cutters, who sits mower every winter. I have advanced to non gas. Hope this will help anyone, who's trying to decide. Sincerely. Mr. Williams.

There's only one reason a professional Lawn Service should switch to battery Power Equipment . They're quieter. You must be able to charge your batteries from your truck .you must have enough battery power to keep the equipment running Around the clock professional Lawn people don't realize in a typical neighborhood that they make their living ask several different companies showing up 6 days a week and on the seventh day the homeowner that does it his self . Has the loudest gasoline powered equipment that money can buy. You can advertise whisper quiet lawn services. Everybody would call you to do the work .
