I was there, the greatest gig I ever attended, they were on a different level those 2 nights in July 83

Ian voice was so powerful, are you crazy? Btw the performance here is amazing, sensational, out of mind!

My favourite live band, along with Radiohead. Both are way better live than in the studio. Echo for the ad-libbing, Ian's fun banter with the audience, and working into their original songs bits of classics by The Beatles, Velvet Underground, The Doors, The Rolling Stones..

Do it clean/Sober. It's great poetic music that leaves a lot to a listeners interpretations. Like fine Art. It's not cut and dry like modern music. Far deeper!!

Echo and the bunnyman name was in reference to when the band began they, Ian McCullough,Will Sergeant, vocals, guitarist, didn't have a drummer, they used tape loops, thus " Echo". Then in 1979 drummer the late Pete Defritas joined. He died in a motorcycle accident in 1989. The only original members in the band today is Ian and Will, Les Pattison left the band in the mid nineties.

Good to see someone reacting to a song and band that is historically important rather than do the normal Mammon Worshpping Jig that dominates YoobToob.

Great post-punk, neo-psyhadelic band 80s

This is a good song, but in my opinion Echo & The Bunnymen made better ones. Try listening to "The killing moon", "Rescue", "Villiers terrace" or "Seven seas", you will be surprised. In the video, Ian McCulloch's hair reveals their time was the 80's. Well done, keep exploring the past decades, they are mines of wonderful little known or forgotten songs

Ocean Rain is by far their best song.

I always thought Echo was their drum machine before Pete de Freitas joined the band, but it turns out it was just one of several silly names a friend of theirs had suggested. According to singer, Ian McCulloch, he wanted to demostrate how unimportant a band's name is. Similarly to The Smiths I suppose, who went with the most average name they could think of, one that wouldn't stand out.

At their first gig on 15th November 1978 they were supporting the Teardrop Explodes ans had not settled on a name moments before the gig. Echo and the Bunnymen was one of the many silly names put forward by Mac McCullochs flat mate "Smelly Elly". Julian Cope the lead singer of the Teardrops introduced them as Echo much to the suprised of the band and them hating it, but after the gig the crowd not only loved the set but the name and so stuck.

Sex Machine is a reference to James Brown classic, then the rest is a medley of their own songs etc.

Nope. That name was never even in the running. Read a comment above that explains exactly where the name came from
