Echo Badass Glass Fly Rod Review

I own the 6wt BAG as my primary carp rod. Can make delicate presentations, but can also put serious pressure on double digit fish deep in the cork. It’s a stout rod that requires a 7/8 reel to balance out. Have it paired with an 6wt Airflo Redfish line. But will def handle over-lining.

Ive got an 8 weight 9 foot bag (now discontinued) and love it for both carp and great lakes steelhead, and use it for pike, carp, and other predatory species. I think it really shines as a carp rod because it has no trouble delivering a fly to 70 feet with my 9 weight air cel line (i dont like to use an expensive line, i feel too bad dragging it over rocks and logs) but it is nice and delicate on the delivery. I think the best way to describe it is an 8 weight that presents like a 7 but fights fish like a 9. Its also nice for carp in creeks because the extra flex that glass has plus the powerful butt section of this rod really gives me confidence when im trying to convince a 30 inch fish that they actually dont want to be in that log jam just down stream of them. Great review, im hoping to get a 6 weight bag quickshot with an integrated skagit head as my new smallie stick

That’s exactly what I have for smallies and it’s awesome! I put a 6wt Orvis Bankshot floating line on it and from the boat throwing poppers or streamers for bass it’s hard to fathom a more fun setup. :) 👍

Ben, I didn’t understand your comment about the line you were using, given you said it was a heavy line but didn’t load the rod properly. If it’s a heavy line, wouldn’t it load the rod better than a lighter line?

While the MPX is heavy, we recommend an even heavier line here... like a RIO Outbound Short or an SA Titan. Yes, the MPX loaded this rod better than a lighter line, but we think you could load it even better with a heavier line.
