In this video we take the all new Echo DCS-5000 56V e-Force 18" Battery Chainsaw! Runtime and real world test! This saw is replacing the old Echo CCS-58V4AH 16" Battery Chainsaw, which was a great saw, but since Echo is replacing the entire line with the new 56v battery system I thought it would worth checking into to see if it is an improvement over the old 58v system.

I've watched several reviews on this saw but this one is by far the best. By sawing up that tree you've given a real world example of what amount of work can be done by the saw. This is much better than cutting wafers off of a log and compiling a number. Your method gives me a much better idea of what I can expect from the saw. Thank you!

Good video. I just did a similar one and am working on a follow up. We found this little saw can run a long time if doing things like thinning saplings and trimming the branches on them. In fact, in a 7hr day of thinning our property we ran 1 1/2 batteries only! (bought two just to be sure we had juice to keep going). This little saw is worth the money in my book!

Outstanding presentation. I find it helpful in replacing a gas Stihl 170 w/16 inch bar that finally gave out after many years of use. Going electric makes the most sense and upping bar length to 18" will help with some of the larger cuts on our property. Your careful demonstration of battery life in a real world application is just what I was looking for.

I've put in a few hours sawing up a red oak that went down in a storm with my DCS-5000. I love it! It's not as strong or as fast as my Stihl MS250, but when you add in the starting and stopping, (I don't like leaving the Stihl running when I put it down) the electric is about as quick to cut up a complete tree and a lot easier to use all around.

Himm, at least isn't only me. I have the Stihl MSA300, MSA220C, 161T, GTA 26, BGA86 air Blower and the Trimmer 135, I have used all this quite heavier probably beyond manufacturers recommendation never have any considerable problem with machines. The machines are great, battery technology still light years away for professional use. I have 14 different capacity batteries from AP200 to AP500S. In my case just to bad the batteries not give enough working time between recharges, kind like have a Mustang GT with gas tank in the reserve.

I had the same thing happen when I first tried it the bar didn’t seem to be oiling. I took my bar off and ran the saw for about 30 seconds and the oil started coming out of the oiler hole, put the bar back on and all is good, I think it just takes it a bit to get started.

Tempted to put my Milwaukee M18 16" chainsaw up for sale and swap over to the Echo. The Milwaukee bogs down on bigger cherry and black locust, and overheats any non-High-Output battery I put in it.

@@WilliamsonRidge I have the 12.0Ah high output battery that came with the kit, but it still seems to struggle with thicker hardwoods, maybe I'm expecting too much from it. I even bought a new chain thinking I'd messed up sharpening it somehow, but the new chain wasn't much better.
@WilliamsonRidge

I guess it depends a lot on what you are used to running, if you run a larger cc gas that will power through anything the battery saws may seem lacking, maybe the batteries aren’t real consistent when using in a high power draw scenario, I’ve heard some folks say the batteries even get hot and shut off others say they don’t, I have 3 of the 12AH HO and an 8ah HO and haven’t had any problems, that’s one reason I like the Milwaukee so much, I was using battery saws the other day and the Echo and Milwaukee are my go to saws for the smaller jobs

@@WilliamsonRidge look forward to it! I bet there's no one who has put the 58v Echo through its paces like I have, lost my job of 30+ years with the pandemic and with a Christmas tree farm I'd run as a side business for years and no govt handouts available to me due to loopholes in the system decided to go into firewood to pay some bills. My family has been doing firewood 100+ years, so it's in my blood and I was playing with saws at a young age. But nowadays bad vertigo issues slow me down, not good to be doing wood work when stumbling around dizzy like a drunk, even with plugs and muffs any prolonged use of a "real saw" and I'm down for the count for a day or two. Condition called "hyperacusis" which is vertigo caused by sound. Anyway Long story short I've had to use battery saws as much as possible to keep working, gas saws in limited doses for felling big boys etc then right back on battery. Always trying to balance, as you know you just can't get the power of a gas saw with the battery boys so I'm always grabbing the gas one and using it for as short a time as needed to get the big stuff done then limbing and bucking with my Echo 58v. I got two because it was almost cheaper to get the saw with the battery than it was to get a second battery! Common thing. I've probably run my 58v echo saws well over 1000 hours in last 2 years and they are the best battery saws I have used. Been tempted to grab a ryobi for backup battery saw since I have a bunch of their 40v batteries for weed whips etc. but I'm glad I didn't, might be a good idea to sell one of my 58v saws and batteries used to help fund the upgrade to this 56v and keep my 58v on hand too. But I'll wait to see your review head to head! Now back at it for me sun's up! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this review and if you've read all this you ought to get a trophy.

Looking for a battery powered saw to carry in my truck to clear trails, been a big fan of echos gas powered equipment for a while, but thought it would be nicer to have a saw I can throw in the back and not worry about gas spills, was looking at the milwaukee saw, but this looked like it could be more promising. Looking forward to seeing more.

Yeah mine leaks, I have 12 or 13 chainsaws and all but two of them leak, it’s pretty common, but I have also seen some of the same brand saws, where some leak and some don’t, most manufacturers recommend dumping any leftover oil out after use, but it still may leak some just not nearly as much, I just purchase an Ego 20” saw and so far it hasn’t leaked any but my Milwaukee, echo, Dewalt, and atlas saws do

I brought my new saw back to the echo dealer. They inspected it and determined that the oil tank had a leaky seam. They sent a new saw and I went in to pick it up today. When I got to the dealer my new saw was sitting on the show room floor in a paper towel. When I picked it up there was an oil stain about 4 inches in diameter on the paper. When I pointed this out to the dealer he said yeah, it’s leaking from the oiling port as it should. The other one had a cracked tank. I give up! I’ll just carry it around in a 5 gallon bucket.
