You learned something - I learned something! A good day! One thing I already knew - open up the doors, or better yet do it outside! Smokes like crazy! I use propane, usually in a vice, but that MAPP gas seems to work a lot faster. I have one of those vices you can clamp to something and I put it on my outside bench and that works way better than smoking up the shop. I think with that trimmer it was a combination of the parts being partially clogged and maybe the catalytic converter being mostly clogged that caused the issue. Thanks for this one, Dave!🔧👍

I had a Ryobi string trimmer. Would not run, until I cleaned the car. Great catch. Take care.

Good catch Dave, you have an ear for what you are doing! Do you think all of that carbon build up is from normal use or is the owner mixing in too much oil?

IMHO probably a little of both. Hedgers are like chainsaws running wide open or idle. So I can see where both scenarios come into play. I hope you are doing well brother.

Ulitepilot aka Zombie Dave what kind of 2 stroke oil do you use

I have been using Castor 927 race oil. My thought is that really high revving motorcycle engines live on this stuff in extreme conditions so it's going to be perfect in small 2 stroke equipment. That's just me though. It smells great too. I'm in Arizona so I don't get freezing temps very often. This oil does not like freezing temps.
