I have an echo pb580T, so I appreciate this video. My machine is about 2 1/2 years old, so hopefully a while to go before I would consider replacing the piston. The main problems with this machine is the coil and carb. They seem to wear out fairly quickly. I really like this machine, so I'm not complaining

The coil and carb should not be wearing out I think your service shop is trying to be slick

Awesome video by the way.❤ But you know that seems to be the majority of problems with these blowers because a certain population believes that all gas is equal

Hello sir, thank you for this video. Around how much would it cost to fix a scored piston? I have the same issue with mine. Thank you.

You are probably looking at $60 minimum. Aftermarket piston kits might be cheaper. If the cylinder wall has problems as well then it will go up.

I'm having trouble finding a cylinder and piston rebuild kit for the 580t I was wondering do they make a Big Bore Kit or can you put a different one on from a bigger blower like they do some saws

I don't know if they have a big bore kit but I did find a full kit on jacks small engine www.jackssmallengines.com/jacks-parts-lookup/manufacturer/echo/blowers/backpack-blowers/pb-580t/pb-580t-s-n-p44112001001-p44112999999/engine

Hi there, thank you for this video. I was under the impression I may be having a piston issue with this same model, however I'm leaning towards a bad flywheel all of sudden. I've already replaced the carb, spark plug, fuel filter - this thing refuses to start. There is spark, the fuel is good (I use it in other appliances, mix of gas + echo oil, not the trufuel kind though), and the pull retracts, but I'm not hearing that "clicking" as it tries to start up anymore - and I haven't changed anything recently. There's just no "traction" on pulling. About 2 weeks ago this thing just bogged as I was using it, and it never restarted since other than some half a second putters and then shuts down again. Any thoughts on what this could be? Wracking my brain trying to figure out what would cause this.

I would say either you have a timing issue, ring issue or plugged exhaust. Take off the flywheel and look at the key. I think this one might have the key on the flywheel. If it is broken then a new flywheel is needed or key if it is not part of the flywheel. If that is ok take off the exhaust and look at the exhaust port and muffler for any blockages. Plugged spark arrestors are a common issue on two cycles. If that is ok look at the piston and rings through the exhaust port and look for scoring or a large amount of carbon on the rings. Carbon can collect on the rings and cause low compression. If there is scoring you will need a new piston, rings and possibly a new cylinder and base gasket. Let me know what you find

@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn Hey, so a couple days later but I finally had a chance to go through your list of recommendations. Thanks again for responding. A preface on this (and I wrote all this on the video I link below too): I bought this leaf blower a year ago. Used it at most 20 times so far. 50:1 gas/oil any time I've used it, never had any issues prior to 2 weeks ago when this thing bogged and then hasn't been able to restart since. Spark arrestor is not plugged, I hear no weird clicking or anything sounding like it's rubbing on the pistons. I do have consistent spark. There's nothing blocking the exhaust port. Coil looks good. I even replaced the carb last week thinking it had died on me. I decided to empty the tank, take out the spark plug and leave it out of the hole for a day or two just to air things out. I was able to get that half a second cold start to occur just before filming the video (link below), flip it to run, pump a little more, but then that's it. Nothing else happens. Still can't get it to actually start. I'm really out of ideas here. I'm hoping by recording it it might make it a little more clear what the issue is to someone else hearing it. I haven't taken the flywheel off yet but that's probably my next step. Pulling on the pulley does spin the blower fan, so I don't know if a sign the flywheel key is broken is a sign the blower fan wouldn't spin. Either way - here's a link to the video I just took. Any help is really much appreciated, even just telling me this thing sounds like it's a lost cause would still be helpful, I just hate giving up on trying to fix something, especially when it's only a year old and showed no signs of dying prior to this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipW6cq2whLeLh9k

Probably the coil.

Why would it only have 100psi on the compression tester after a rebuild? Just rebuilt one and that’s all it’s showing with the compression tester.
@PNWSmallEngineandLawn
@PNWSmallEngineandLawn Жыл бұрын
Mainly due to the tester. I am not a fan of the type I was using but at the time it was the only one available. Also a new engine needs to break itself in. After that it should be a little higher

I'm working on one now, it's the neighbors. It has spark at the wire but it won't start. even if I spray starting fluid directly into the carb or spark plug hole. carb is spotless clean, unit looks brand new, I changed the coil twice with two brand new quality coils still no start. I'm stumped with this unit. do they have timing that can be off? all I can guess at this point is something internally with the motor.
@PNWSmallEngineandLawn
@PNWSmallEngineandLawn 2 жыл бұрын
The timing is done off the flywheel. I can't remember if this one has a separate key or the key is part of the flywheel but either way if the key is sheared it can effect timing. Also the orientation of the coil could cause a timing issue. If the coil is installed backwards it will be off. Take the exhaust off and look at the piston. In general if there is a problem you can see it through that port. Do you have a compression tester?

@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn don't have a compression tester. strange thing is the spark is random. my sensor detects power in the wire but I can't visually see a spark on the plug except random. if I switch it to off it throws one single spark, but when I switch to on position then nothing on the plug. it's very strange.

You could have a bad plug. It is kinda rare but the magnet on the flywheel could also be going out. I would try a good new NGK and try again. If not then it cod be a bad flywheel. It's isn't common at all but could happen.
@BigAlWillis

@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn yeah, tried new plug as well. I was going to pull the flywheel but when I had it apart I stopped figuring it's not worth the repair & may not help. It does seem it's the flywheel because I've checked everything else. new coils, plugs, carb clean, wires to switch. I'm wondering if he put regular gas in it & damaged something, no way of telling. I think I'm finished with this one. it's toast.

Wish some would list torque specs on head...seems to be very little out there..refreshing a PB-650 but cannot find specs..good content would be discussing this as some would say just get it tight and the...I don't need to torque anything..just by feel..yeah, right.
@PNWSmallEngineandLawn
@PNWSmallEngineandLawn Жыл бұрын
Technically you should be torquing everything to spec but as long as it is tight you should be fine. You can over torque so don't go crazy. I have seen for these engines specs ranging from 60-90 inch pounds for the cylinder. I would say probably closer to 90 on a 650
