I know by your comment that you are very familiar with the King family history in music and especially guitar work. You’re correct, Marcus played back up rhythm guitar many a night for his dad and granddad and all it did for him was make him better and to learn to give space to anyone playing alongside of him. Case and point, watch him play along side of Warren Haynes. He is respectful of the old school masters and helps them sound even better but when it’s time for his lead play he doesn’t try to upstage what Warren just played unless Warren gives him the nod that it’s okay to rip! The other guitar player that used just as much respect when playing along side of the masters was Stevie Ray Vaughan when playing with the likes of Buddy Guy and Albert King. Though he could have melted the stage he chose not to every time. It’s just humbling to watch that kind of respect. Derek Trucks is another respectful player when he is playing with the masters and he has played with just about all of them. It’s good to read your comment and know you understand.

The lead-off "Where I'm Headed" is monstrous - love it! This version just rocks so right. Its album Carolina Confessions is excellent, but for this song, this live version is AWESOME!!!

He sets the bar high for professionalism. It seems like everything Marcus does live sounds like it was recorded in studio. The guy is just that polished and getting better everyday. He has that Buddy Guy jam style down to a science.

John Mayer's Trio band used to be able to hit these sweet spots when he used to do Jazz/Blues, since then it has been hard to find another. Marcus King Band has filled that void and is amazing.

Yesterday I was so saddened by the passing of one of the godfathers of Southern rock Mr. Charlie Daniels. I am seeing this for the first time and my sadness has turned to pure and absolute elation. Southern rock is now the powerhouse genre of music in America and hopefully will be for a very long time. I consider myself to be truly blessed to be alive to witness this new generation of Southern musicians and Southern music. The south has done it again and may they rock on forever . God Bless and preserve the sound of the South. Amor y Paz.

Probably one of my new favorites, Him, Greta Van Fleet, and Billy Strings are bringing guitar back into the spot light, in a familiar but fresh way and I'm proud to be of the same generation.

I listen to / watch a lot of guitarists on KZbin. I have only seen one other that I don’t believe is playing an instrument but rather channeling pure soul and emotion through the strings and that is Jeff Beck. Not musicians, something other worldly and to be deeply cherished. Was lucky enough to see MKB in Sydney in 2019 - one of the best live gigs I’ve ever been to. The guy is special.
