I finally did buy an SRM225 in March of this year. I absolutely love it. It's by far the best trimmer I've ever owned. For it only being a 21cc it has plenty of power. What's really great is the warranty 5yrs for homeowner that's FANTASTIC!!! Imho Echo is a billion times better than Husqvarna.

These little Echos are great machines and very easy to work on. That said, they seem prone to the spark arrestor plugging up, which I suspect they are tuned a tad rich and most people don't run them wide open enough like they want to be. I feel like the 225s are becoming more common for home owners due to their availability and price point, but many owners don't read the manuals to keep them running in top condition. For the gear box, it's a white lithium grease. I doubt it would matter which brand you used, as long as it's not dollar store sourced. I have a Lucas White Lithium that I use to refill them when I work on them. I always squeeze it in, turn the head a few times, and squeeze in more if it has room. I feel like it helps mix it into the gearbox - no scientific support though lol

thank you very much for the information, I'll have to get some white Lithium

Can't remember replacing a spark plug BUT I ran my Super-45 saw so much I was scared to TRY and take it out. Always ran Stihl orange bottle oil and pump gas. The guy I bought it from sure souped it up and it SCREAMED till my neighbor killed it. So don't loan your saw or your wife but I wished I'd lent my wife.That blew up later too. Thanks and Happy week!

The exaust on those just runs cool so they plug if ran at part throttle. Most of it has to do with emissions tuning but they need to be held wide open for a bit when done trimming to clear it out.

I agree that for the money, you can't beat Echo equipment. I'm invested in the PAS system. I bought one new, I inherited one that my mother bought new, and I bought another (bigger) used power head. I have 6 attachments. As for the other shade of orange... good equipment, too, but I prefer Echo. BTW, my oldest power head is 13 yrs old. I operate it at full throttle most of the time, and I've never needed to clean the exhaust screen.

My trimmer is ab FS85 with bullhorn handlebars that ive been using for years, and i would try out an Echo in a heartbeat. Hey bro what's up? It was a reasonable service done to this trimmer. I wanted to know since you didn't have the grease for this trimmer would using a different brand or type of grease make an different in functionality?
@angelicaconiguliaro31792 ай бұрын
Mixing different kinds of grease is not good. You'd have too clean all the old stuff out, or just buy some echo grease. Your choice!

well there are limits, I would make sure it's a multipurpose grease or high temp. So to answer your question, it depends on what kind of grease you put in there.

After I put three carburetors on my echo SRM 2100 and it ruined the new carburetor within a year. I threw mine up on top of a building and bought a steel FS 94. I really do like my Stihl And soon after I went and replaced my echo leaf blower with a Stihl and have not gone back. I am very skeptical about how echo has been recently. I do not know if they still have the same carburetor problems that they did 15 years ago hopefully they don’t.

Typical Echo. If it isn't the spark arrest screen that is plugged, it'll be the exhaust port itself. SO common. Personally, I prefer Stihl, but then again I am a bit biased being a Stihl Master Technician and having been a dealer, lol! Echo is just fine if you understand the quirks.
@MUUKOW32 ай бұрын
As a technician since the 80's stihl is the one with the quirks. The fourmix is a nightmare to work on and you will never see one of those running 15-20 years later like Echo or Shindaiwa.
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE2 ай бұрын
I like the way you put that.
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE2 ай бұрын
I've heard that before. 4mix is interesting, but I find it more complicated than it needs to be.

@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE It was Jointly developed by Stihl and Shindaiwa, the Shindaiwa version was much better and robust but didn't last after their marriage to echo. I still have one of the pre production prototypes they used for testing from Shindaiwa
@tjclarke46042 ай бұрын
@@MUUKOW3 Yes, the 4-mix units are different than the old 2-strokes, which is why we do upgrade seminars and classes every few years to keep up with the newer tech. Honestly though, once you understand the 4-mix, it isn't that complicated at all. I can do a complete teardown and rebuild in 2 hours. Yes, 2 hours. But I can see where getting deep into one might be daunting to someone with less experience. Still far superior technology, and naturally, there is room to grow.
