This channel somehow transports me into a dimension where time and space are not real. Every emotion of the human mind can be found here, yet all wrapped in a craddle of quiet and peace, modern and ancient all at once. I always come here when my day's been crappy, and this has not failed to relax me yet. Thank you sir!

It is because the striking of the strings is over a huge resonator that gives resonating space for the harmonics that accompany the tuned note of each set of two strings. The harmonics of many main notes mingle evoking several universes at any given fraction of a second...so you have several musicS of the spheres...this was the Long Answer● find Pandit Shivkumar Sharma who plays Hindustani classical music on the version of this instrument found in Kashmir.

About 45 years ago, my dad found plans for a hammered dulcimer and built one. We loved it, but more played at it than played it, as there were no instructors in our area. (This predates the internet by a couple decades.) I taught myself a few tunes, but that was it. Yet I never fell out of love with the tone. Josh is an amazing musician an innovator.

Would you please continue this tune for one hour ;-) or two hours... or.... Can hardly stop listening. It is one of my favourites on the MP3-version of the CD that I downloaded on Bandcamp. This here is a little different and still great. So maybe one hour more of variations? ;-))
@JoshuaMessick3 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm with me. I am glad you’ve listened enough times to hear the difference in this version. Some of my compositions (not all) are “dynamic” - they change a little bit over time as I learn more about life and music. After about a year since composing it, Echoes in Time developed a little bit with different embellishments and a key change. I’m glad I can share this new version with you on KZbin. Once again, thank you! :)
@hiw95283 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaMessick I just listened once more and got the spontaneous association of some sentences in John O'Donohue's book "Eternal Echoes": "Longing is the voice of your soul, it constantly calls you to be fully present in your life, to live to the full the one life given to you. ... The dream of your life has been dreamed from eternity. ... When you learn to listen to and trust the wisdom of your soul's longing, you will awaken to the invitation of graced belonging that inhabits the generous depths of your destiny..." And that's one reason why I think it would be great if you continue this tune with a lot of variations... 😉

Beautiful! Very well played, and the video production is also top notch. I am intrigued by your instrument and how well it sounds. Have you ever tried different hammered dulcimer models, like the ones from Austria, China and Romania/Hungaria?
@JoshuaMessick3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Manfred! The DulciForte is a true joy to play. I love it, and I’m encouraged to hear your appreciation. Also, thanks for sharing your thoughts about the video production. It’s all DIY homebrew, but I’ve been doing my best to make it better. Yes, I have tried a whole bunch of varieties of trapezoidal chordophones. I thoroughly enjoy how different these instruments are. It is amazing how they’ve been adapted to fit the musical culture of their respective region.
@lerxtdude3 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaMessick That is a very good point about how the different instrument variations fit the regional musical culture they are applied in. I somehow laid eyes on a Salzburger hackbrett many years ago, have been intrigued ever since, and managed to buy one a few years ago. In my country these are practically unknown and almost impossible to find! Have been getting to know the instrument and the techniques involved (my background in drums and percussion has proven very useful). Now I'm incorporating it in different styles of music (including a rendition of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells together with zither, fretless bass and drums). Anyway, I have been following your channel and enjoying it very much. Keep up the good work!
