So I ended up spending that time in the restaurant in the resort, battling. By the time I figured out how to continue the story, my Infernape and Lucario were mad OP for the rest of the game. Then I got humbled by Cynthia. Good times.

Omg. Same. I had an Empoleon and Starapter though. I literally couldn't figure out where to go for like two years, and then one day I remembered that I had seen a wooded-up area when I had started the game. The game was about as fun as I've had with a video game because I was young, wasn't using the internet for answers, and was solving problems for myself. It made things that much more worth it and fulfilling when they happened. And btw, even with all of the extra training I had trouble with Cynthia at the end, and I was so young too that I hadn't even connected the dots that Cynthia would be the Champion at the end. In fact, since it was my first Pokemon game (and first experience with Pokemon) I didn't even know how big of a deal the elite four and the champion was. I think I had an inkling that something would occur at the end of the game, but I didn't have much to go off. I miss playing pokemon like that. You really only get one opportunity in life to play the game like that before you know too much. I was lucky enough not to be exposed to the internet. Hell, I was having trouble with the second gym!
@TonyAlfonso-p8q2 ай бұрын
Btw. I also used my master ball on my starapter when it was a starly. I had no clue how important that thing was so I never caught Girantina lol. Later on, I found out that it was in the ruins in its world stage. I stumbled upon that too.

The distortion world tried to simulate 3d in a 2d game. It is a shame that the remakes didn’t fulfill that vision of the game.

@jg27222 ай бұрын
It does fulfill that vision , but fans are stuck with the nostalgia of the older games. Don’t get me wrong I love the older gens too , especially gen 3 ,it’s my favorite but I LOVE the remakes too. The fact that the newer games feel like an actual open world is amazing. Not to mention the Pokémon are more lively now and have different personalities which is nice to see. It’s like watching the Pokémon anime come to life. Lastly the special attacks are definitely the upgrade. The only thing the new games are missing is the iconic music of the older games. Music makes a big difference which is why Tobey’s Spider-Man is the best because he had the best music which gives you s feeling that the others don’t. Same thing with the older Pokémon games.
@tsuki3752Ай бұрын
@@jg2722 the issue w open world games is that sometimes music becomes an after thought. you’re so bombarded with things and have to pay attention to sounds so the music either has to be more subdued or the player just isn’t able to pay attention in the first place. plus newer music in pokemon still has that “pokemon style” but it’s a generalized sound front, but the games from the time have their own unique sound front due to limitations of the gameboys and ds. i don’t think the bdsp remakes are as good due to the fact that they scaled it 1:1 to account for the chibi aspect of the player character, which maybe worked in oras, but it makes it incredibly hard to traverse around the map especially on a bike without bumping into everything, especially in the pokemon tower. not to mention the camera angle made me feel like i couldn’t go certain places. those are tiny nitpicks BUT they are basically ruining me wanting to explore around the map 😭 the underground in bdsp is WAYYYYYYYY better and i agree w the personalities of pokemon. i’m crap at playing pokemon but i can see that the games have gotten a lot easier. kinda wish there was an option for shitty players like me and younger audiences and an option for older audiences or ones who played the ogs and wanted a challenge, but that’s an often contested idea about the pokemon games. i think bdsp is an okay game but def not my favourite remake/revisiting of both sinnoh and overall pokemon franchise. which is unfortunate since pearl & platinum are my favourite games. i just hope they do better for unova.

The problem with new Pokémon is that they have forgotten the genre of their game. Pokémon is an ADVENTURE GAME at its core. Sword/Shield and to a somewhat lesser extent Scarlet/Violet all have limited pathing, less room for true exploration and yet also have incredible camera freedom. Pokémon is at its best when you don't know what's waiting just outside of vision. 3D age killed the sense of wonder and suspense that the GB/GBA/NDS era of Pokémon all embraced. I knew Pokémon was truly dead when in Sword/Shield you see major events happening and you get nudged into ignoring them and just doing gym leader challenges like a good little boy. I'm sorry? What happened to taking down criminal organizations and defeating gang admins and infiltrating bases? Now all I get is a very nice view of empty fields with a couple of Pikachus in them.

Honestly I really loved S/V ending cuz for the first time in a pokémon game you don't face potential death on your own. You have friends with you, and that is so amazing! (Note: Actually, X and Y did that too) I just love that very much, cuz it always urked me that I had to do everything alone and never really had friends to rely on. I think in terms of rivals/friends, no game has been as great as S/V. Everyone of your friends has their own thing going. They don't depend on you entirely and it makes the game feel more lively and realistic.

I’ve been playing Platinum on my Steam Deck with RetroAchievments. And I gotta say, Retroachievements really does make it feel like a new experience. Going through the game and unlocking new achievements feels so satisfying, and has had me doing things that I either never would have otherwise, or things I straight up didn’t know existed! Like, never before had I messed with Jubilife’s lottery system, or spent so much time figuring out the mechanics in the Game Corner with that Clefairy minigame. It’s such a fun way to return to a childhood favorite. My first entry was Diamond btw, my brother’s was Pearl.

I don't have steam deck, can you explain me what's retro achievements ?
@CaptainEffort8 ай бұрын
@@sullyg9342 It’s a community driven website that makes achievements for pretty much any system that lacked them, so you can play all your old favorites and earn achievements in them, just as you would with modern games on modern consoles. It’s a fun way to track your progress, and also to tackle challenges that you may not have otherwise. You basically just make an account on the website, then sign into that account through your emulator. Plenty of emulators support it now, like Retroarch, PCSX2, PPSSPP, etc. Plus, as an added feature, it adds scoreboards for loads of games. So for example you can play the SSX games and your fastest run will be put up against everyone else’s. Also there are site wide rankings, so it’s fun to see where you land amongst the rest of the community. You earn points by getting achievements in your games, and some achievements are obviously worth more than others. For example, in Pokemon Platinum the “Mine Diamonds” achievement is earned for getting the first badge. It’s not that hard so it’s not worth that much. But the “App Enthusiast” achievement, for getting all the Poketch apps, is a lot harder, so you earn way more points for getting it. It makes earning those harder achievements feel so much more satisfying. Especially because you can see how many people actually manage to get each achievement, so that Poketch achievement, for example, only has 5% of players managing to unlock it. Edit: You also get a cool little pop up every time you unlock an achievement, which for whatever reason my brain really enjoys.

The games could have ended the series and I would have been happy. Good story, difficult battles, physical special split. The best part was how they gave multiple Pokémon from the previous 3 gens new evolutions. Felt like they really completed everything in this title.
@1saintt5388 ай бұрын
If I recall correctly they were developing black&white from around 2008/2009 and that pretty much served as a then modern day reboot. (New dex, no old mons till postgame etc) so with that in mind in regards to your comment I feel like gen 4 truly was a very fitting end for the first 3 gens. Unova onwards to me always felt like a different era and that even reflects on the pikachu reset in the anime. It’s a shame tho coz bw2 follow up with gen 4 as the best games imo 😅

@nightwing20323 ай бұрын
@@1saintt538i don’t think they started development for black and white in 2008 or 2009 considering heart gold and soul silver released in 2009. I believe black and white were in development in 2006 and came out in 2010 so about 4 years of development. same for heart gold and soul silver, it started development in 2006 and released in 2009 in Japan and 2010 in the west. So 3 years of development. Both heart gold and soul silver and black and white were most likely in development along side each other.

Platinum, HG/SS, Emerald, and B2W2 are the gold standard for Pokemon games. Platinum: great region, pokedex, story and villain, one of the coolest cover legendaries, amazing starters, best soundtrack and champion out of any game. HG/SS: two regions which is automatically the best post-game in the series, great cover legendaries, best boss in the series, great starters, and Pokemon following you. Emerald: Arguably the most iconic region, the second most popular legendary on the cover, one of the most best and most iconic soundtracks, probably the second most popular set of starters and a great post-game. B2W2: These are in my opinion the "best" Pokemon games on an objective level. So much high quality content it's insane, great Pokemon selection, second best post-game in the series, perfected the top down 2D art style the sprites look incredible. These games perfected the Pokemon formula better than any other.

Gen 4 in general was just so good in almost every way. The art style, the music, the new added Pokemon, the Sinnoh region in general, the post game all were really great. The story was something for everyone and not just kids with their "friendship is magic" bs that they do today. The honeytrees were crap espeacially if you were going after Munchlax and the slow moving Hp bars but those are just minor flaws imo since we had Hg/Ss (don't get me started on those, damn that's how remakes have to look like Gamefreak...) if we really wanted to have Munchlax ^^ I'm glad i still have my copy and my original DS and 2Ds to revisit it whenever i want :) Btw fingers crossed that Kevin gets to see this ^^

A legit copy of Platinum it’s expensive but well worth it. Great game with a ton of things to do post completion. The battle frontier will keep you busy for many hours alone. Same as Emerald. Also expensive but worth its hefty price. Can’t go wrong with either game.

18:49 Technically, Nintendo has nothing to do with the Pokemon games beyond publishing them. It's Game Freak who makes them. (Though in BDSP's case, it was ILCA who made them.)

Started my pokemon dive on FireRed GBA, played that for a couple years then bought Ruby but for some reason I didn't like it or most of that gens pokemon so I dropped it. DS came out and parents bought me one. Played that Mario N64/DS game and Nintendogs. Then Diamond/Pearl released. I got Pearl and my buddy had Diamond. We played the absolute piss out of those games. The jump in the graphics and audio (IMO best music in any pokemon game) the new features/gimmicks/activities you can partake it were exciting to mess with. BIG feature was inserting your GBA game in the GBA slot on the DS and your D/P game in the DS cartridge slot and being able to transfer pokemon from one game to the other. Bringing back my old crew and my very first pokemon was truly a great experience, bringing them with to continue the journey vs leaving them behind in an old era. As I got older and new titles came out, I never bought Platinum and I pretty much left the Pokemon series behind as I didn't take to the new gens designs and mechanics. So P/D/P was the last gen for me. I may give them another shot though.

Probably my best Platinum memory is the fact that I found a shiny Buizel in the grass only an hour into starting the game. I didn’t even know shinies existed and have never caught one since. It’s even funnier when you consider that this was the first mainline Pokemon game I ever owned. So I caught my first shiny at the very beginning of my Pokemon life and it never happened again 😂😂
