Raving Rando But why? I admit that I am not a super-fan of Halo, but it has always been my impression that the power levels of individual ships and such are roughly equivalent. Why is it that so many think that Halo is somehow infinitely stronger?
@Raving_Rando6 жыл бұрын
t-minus tyson This is long... Sorry. But if you're interested, have fun. Personally this has been a pet peeve of mine for a while, so I sadly ended up wasting too much of my life studying the two factions. Staring at pictures, reading moments, watching scenes over and over and debating with hardcore fans, I've come to this conclusion. Canon Turbolasers are about on par in power to Covenant Pulse Lasers, not as strong as Plasma Torpedoes which continually eat away at their target even after initial impact and also can cause explosions rivaling nukes when used for orbital glassing. Nowhere close to the ever mentioned Energy Projector, which has been known to cause an EMP effect to any electronics, knocking out shielding almost instantly even when the lance shot is a few miles away and boiling away all known metals instantly. Scenes in Star Wars that back my claim are: 1. Rebels with the bombardments resulting in tiny blasts and little damage. 2. TLJ with the Dreadnought firing at a planet with super cannons resulting in a blast about on par with Covenant orbital bombardment, meaning that those special guns are what it takes to be on par with standard Covenant orbital glassing. 3. TCWs with the assault on the Malevolence, hours to maybe even days of hitting a larger shield-less ship to no avail. Star Wars fans will constantly claim that Covenant shielding is weak to energy based weapons to help their argument, to which they're half right. Covenant ship shielding is weak to higher end Covenant grade energy weapons (Plasma Torpedoes and Energy Projectors), not all energy based weapons. Meaning if I and those that think alike to me are in fact correct, then the Empire would have a hard time knocking out Covenant ships when Imperial weapons are only on par with Pulse Lasers. Even after the shield is down, the Empire would then have anywhere to over 100 feet of Nanolaminate armor to have to punch through before the shielding reboots and goes back up in a few minutes. And Nanolaminate is harder and more heat resistant then Titanium, meaning it'll be an absolute turd for the Empire to have to deal with. Now if this were the Legends Star Was factions, then the Covenant wouldn't stand a chance. The writers of the Star Wars EU kept upping the ante in an attempt to out do one another, you have fools that honestly think Palpatine can beat Majin Buu when they use Legends material. Palpatine, the same guy that was easily picked up by Vader and thrown down a shaft to his death. They think he can beat a planet breaker that can't be destroyed unless by a special DB style attack So to put it simply, the way I see it is this. Legends SW > HALO Canon SW < HALO Feel free to disagree with me. I really don't care anymore.

Covenant shields are much stronger than republic shields they also have superior point defense weapons the only time they would be vulnerable would be when firing their energy projectors because they have to lower parts of their shields to do that but since energy projectors have ridiculous range I doubt that a significant amount of the venators would have survived for long enough to close the gap, also seraphs are superior to the republic’s fighters the covenant had quality over quantity approach to those. They were quite superior to sabres and longswords which I would also say were superior to the republic’s fighters

Covenant tech is extremely powerful. Although it was just a cinematic trailer, the shields of a super carrier withstood a nuclear blast from the inside (before finally failing due to the ship itself being destroyed). @veonosizzz_yt87 Жыл бұрын
Troop Battles wouldn't be that much of a different story. If you're including Jedi and Sith, then the battle is probably even. If you're not, which is most of the time the case, then Star Wars is gonna get steamrolled. Also, I just want to say that Jedi and Sith wouldn't be very powerful against Halo, specifically the UNSC, because their lightsabers won't be very effective in blocking projectiles. Lightsabers would be able to absorb or reflect Covenant plasma fire, but bullets from the UNSC would go straight through. The bullets aren't inside of the lightsaber for nearly as long as required for them to start melting. The bullet's temperature would just go up ten degrees at most, and continue on to strike a hole straight through the force user. I also can't see any sith or jedi other than Sidious and Dooku (because of force lightning) not be easily defeated by a spartan fire team. The only real thing the jedi or sith could do would be to dodge bullets and force choke. Neither of those would work though, because the average jedi/sith can only force choke one at a time, and dodging would be completely ineffective due to Spartan's near instant reaction speed. I would think that even a Spartan IV fireteam is enough to kill almost every sith and jedi.

@slate84094 жыл бұрын
Missed the two CSO supercarriers known to be in the Second Fleet. Also, there was good reason why fighters weren't as heavily used in Halo as opposed to Star Wars, it wasn't just a stylistic choice. Covenant point defense was incredibly accurate, able to pick off missiles only a few meters in length and moving at sublight speeds with a horrifying degree of accuracy - UNSC Archer missiles usually lost about half to three quarters of their number in transit unless launched in overwhelming numbers. V-Wings and other unshielded fighters would be getting picked off with single shots from Covenant pulse lasers in the same way that Rebellion era fighters got chewed up by Lancer class frigates - just at distances of kilometers out rather than typical Star Wars knife fighting ranges. Beyond that we actually do have numbers for a lot of the Seraph statistics and the thing are insanely fast and maneuverable, not to mention capable of independent slipspace transit. As stated in the video it would've been a far closer fight if we were looking at latter generation Star Destroyers but I can't see any situation in which either the Republic or Empire has a fighter advantage.

Then you just don’t use V-wings Stick to the 170s and Y-wings
@slate84092 жыл бұрын
@@luigimrlgaming9484 Unfortunately that leaves them easy pickings for Seraph fighters. The things were heavy multipurpose craft like the ARC-170 was but with considerably more firepower and shielding - but able to maneuver like Vulture droids. They'd butcher something as heavy as the ARC-170 which struggled with droid fighters in dogfights, and the Y-Wing suffered from similar problems which was why they were getting phased out for the clone variant of the Z-95 Headhunter and later the V-Wing. ARC-170s were not built for dogfighting. They were long distance recon craft that were able to defend themselves if needed but primarily intended to scout and report back to their carriers.

@slate84092 жыл бұрын
@@luigimrlgaming9484 It was big. Droid tri-fighters already danced circles around the Republic fighters like the V-19 Torrent and Y-Wing (both significantly smaller and more agile than the 170), and it was that specific weakness/flaw in Republic fighter doctrine that led to the creation of the V-Wing. Revenge of the Sith's opening illustrated this pretty well - ARC-170s had a lot of firepower for ships their size and were a threat to anything they managed to place in their crosshairs, but they lacked the maneuverability to deal with anything that managed to slip in behind them. That tail gunner simply isn't enough to deal with dedicated fightercraft, especially when the 170's pilot is juking to try and avoid being shot. That was one of the things that the X-Wing project Incom followed up with also sought to correct by making the X-Wing a much smaller craft with twice the engine power and double the heat dissipation/cooling systems. The 170 was primarily a reconnaissance craft, not a dogfighter - whatever games like Battlefront II may try to tell you. Go looking around any other lore channels like Generation Tech or Geetsly's and they'll all say the same thing. The 170 was a phenomenal strategic craft and it could work well as a strike bomber in a pinch since it had torpedoes but it wasn't competing with dedicated interceptors or more agile fightercraft.

I just wanted to mention actual battle tactics. I'm in agreement with the Covenant coming out on top, but without even touching the technicalities of each side's fleet elements, something to keep in mind is that the Covenant are capable of pinpoint slip-space jumps. Star Wars utilizes hyperspace, which I've not heard of being used to navigate in-system. This means that the Covenant have the capability to redeploy at any given moment if something begins to go wrong. While the Republic would be hard-pressed to reestablish a front line, the Covenant would be capable of doing so whimsically. Many Star Wars space battles degenerate into a disorganized maelstrom of ship-on-ship combat, and reforming or regrouping is unheard of. While a single Covenant ship has been known to engage multiple ships at a time with frequency, this is usually the result of the Covenant ship being alone in the first place. Covenant naval combat on the scale of a fleet battle is a highly organized and deadly affair. If ever the Covenant's battle line was beginning to falter or was penetrated to the point of a ship-on-ship melee, they could easily regroup behind the Republic and resume their attack if they so chose, because they are capable of pinpoint slip-space navigation. This great advantage in mobility, coupled with their fleet tactics of remaining as one cohesive fighting unit, as opposed to the Star Wars universe's tendency to intermingle and break formation, would contribute greatly to the Covenant's victory.

Cant believe how some people actually forget the actual size of high charity's defense fleet, though we really don't know the actual amount of CSO carriers that escorted high charity i would at most say there would be 4-6 at the very least the rest of the carriers would either be the CAS class or dds class carriers. The rest of the covenant fleet would be composed of massive amounts of CCS cruisers, CPV destroyers, quite a few frigates and corvettes hell there might be a few of those covenant super cruisers or sniper ships if you wanna call them that and don't get me started on High Charity's defenses on the station and the Forerunner dreadnought that could be launched and used on the republic. Forgot to the mention that Covenant carriers can launch massive amounts of seraphs banshees and phantom gunboats along with covenant boarding crafts aka ticks that could board a republic warship and destroy or use it against the enemy. Another point is you have severely under estimated the power of covenant shielding and weaponry because their point defense systems was point on accurate in destroying human fighters hell the pulse lasers could even penetrate a Venators armor with ease if given enough time, not to mention that covenant plasma torpedoes have devastating effect on other warships and 3 could easily disable or even destroy a Venator. lastly the sniper ships if the covenant have a few with them are more then capable then destroy the republic defense fleet while at extreme distance, In the Halo book Fall Of Reach this ship meaninglessly destroyed 50 unsc ships with i believe was one shot and turned the tide of the battle for the covenant which allowed them to turn their weapons on the ODP guns to allow there forces free reign on reach. i get it that you wanted a fair fight for both but you cant leave out some of the critical factors on the covenant Defense fleet that allowed them to be a menacing foe. The covenant put a heavy focus on ship infiltration as well, meaning that infintry battles will also play a part in the fight, clone armor is meant to resist blaster fire, which is plasma, but not plasma like the covenant carries, its more of a goo like plasma that sticks to the surface and briefly melts it, which i think will go through clone armor, at least the thinner plates, and the elites energy shield would probobly be more effective at resisting blaster fire. If it is the fleet from halo 2 then there would be significantly more brutes with the same shielding technology (brutes are particularly deadly and i think one could take out around 20 standard clones), and with the average amount of brutes sent in with the other units, they would probably be able to capture a ship from the inside. The cannon number of starships in the Imperial fleet 20,000 if I remember correctly, which is most likely much larger than the Republic's navy as they Republic was far less militaristic. Remember that there were (if I remember correctly) only 12 million clones made, so a fleet of 10,000 ships would have 1200 clones on every ship. Which is a lot, but nowhere near the capacity of them (they are designed for landing huge armies, not just naval battles), and it would mean there were no other clones anywhere else in the galaxy. Which we know isn't true. Plus it involves EVERY clone produced on Kamino. Which is far and away not the number that would actually be there. Many were dead, or on other worlds, or on the ground. The Covenant has the same number of capital ships, and theirs are specifically designed for ship to ship combat. And the High Charity fleet specifically doesn't number in the hundreds, it's several thousand so far as we understand. So the Covenant would be a serious threat to the entire Galactic Empire.

Warhound titan vs Covenant scarab
@-_-29507 жыл бұрын
Probably an even 50/50 split. The titan is more mobile and has great fire power, but is limited in the fact that it would still need to concentrate it's fire for a while to get it anywhere, where a scarab would likely be able to finish a titan in one or two blows from it's main gun. However the mobility of the titan would give it the edge to move out of range of it's main gun in similar fashion as the Scarab and AT-AT battle. If it got out of range of the scarab's initial blast then it has a really good chance, but if it gets hit before then then it's likely a game over for the titan.

Scarab's gun has range of about 650 meters. Warhound can outrange any non-superheavy tank in 40k,which gives it a range of at least several kilometers,but that depends a lot on a weapons layout. And warhound is actually slower,with 58kph on road and42 kph offroad vs scarab's 76kph. I just want to say that Covenant Cruisers can actually carry 146 fighters, which is triple your estimate. This would mean that the Republic's only advantage of having fighters is gone. Also even if you were right about how many fighters the Covenant had, the Covenant would still be better because Seraphs are more maneuverable and have energy shielding. Also, when the battle begins, the Venators would be in range of Covenant weapons long before the Covenant is in range of Venator weapons. The Covenant is used to fighting across entire distances of planets, whereas the Republic normally only fights when the enemy ships are very close, like only 500 miles away at most. This would mean that the Venators would be sitting ducks while the Covenant opens fire on them from thousands of miles away. Other than that you pretty much nailed everything. Also, the Empire wouldn't do much better. The Covenant has almost twice the amount of Ket-Pattern Battlecruisers as the Empire does Star Destroyers so that's already a major disadvantage. I also researched everything about the two ships, and the battlecruiser is superior in almost every way. Don't believe anything I just said? Look it up, everything in this comment is true.

I feel it is semi-unfair to remove the Jedi from an argument about the Republic Navy. Yes, I can understand removing specific tactics and leaders, but Force-users were an integral part of the Coruscant Defense Fleet. Like, just about everyone was there. The power levels of the Jedi while space borne aren't quite as insane compared to their "on the ground" shenanigans, but clones don't pilot Eta-2s. Only Jedi. Additionally, if the Republic knows it is going to greet the Covenant fleet after a hyperspace jump, I don't they wouldn't have had multiple hyperspace-capable fighters already deployed before their jump (the Jedi ETA-2s on their rings and the ARC-170s with theirs as well). Overall I cannot disagree with this fleet vs fleet video. Now, if the Sepratists were the faction discussed, I feel this could be far more interesting.

A super mac had enough force to shoot through 3 Covenant ships in one shot and they were way better shielded then the Reapers and the Reapers have never really faced an enemy with high powered plasma weaponry, they basically set up the rules of the universe so they never would have to. In addition the Reapers are really small in the Halo universe. A Reaper ranges from 160 meters to just over 2 kilometers, a stalwart-class frigate is 478 meters and that's the low end of the size spectrum, the largest known craft is the CSO-class super carrier which is almost 30 kilometers long. A normal CAS-class assault carrier (5,346m) could just ram a Reaper with little ill-effects

The covenant is a tougher one to call as reaper ships main guns are at minimum about twice the power of a unsc mac it probably wouldn't take much to punch through a covenant ships shielding however we don't know how well reaper ships are equipped likewise to take hits from plasma weapons, although looking at the protheans particle rifle and similarly the collectors weaponry (which probably came from Prothean weapons) it appears the reapers likely have faced some form of plasma based weaponry in the past, though if they would be capable of standing up to a covenant cleansing beam I doubt it but there's no way to fully know.

Considering the Republic Navy was brought to its knees by a faction run by incompetent robots and bumbling diplomats, I think another important factor to take into account here is the tactical prowess of the Covenat, specifically the Elites, compared to the Republic that is well known for making obvious tactical mistakes, particularly in naval combat. It would not take the Covenant long to figure out that the ridiculously exposed and flimsy bridge of the Venators could be severed with just a few seconds of Energy Projector firing, and honestly even though I actually think the Coruscant Defence Fleet is larger than the numbers given here, even with more ships they would never stand a chance. Add High Charity to the mix, a station that is larger, better armed and more mobile than even the Death Star, as well as the CSO Carriers, and the Republic fleet would be mopped up each and every time, no question. I could see a dark Jedi or Sith agreeing to it just for the power boost thinking they could throw off the mind control only to become slaves of the swarm.

Since the Venator doesn't use a rack system to store its fighters, you might be able to do a substitution of Eta-2s for ARC-170s based on their landing footprints (i.e. how much space they'd take up when docked in the hangar). I doubt it'd make that much of a difference in the outcome, but it would probably result in a more even matchup without having to resort to Legends' absurd power figures.

@geeman56976 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this work. There are a few concerns I have however. 1) the V-wing and Arc Fighters both have shielding. And the V-wing is often fitted with torpedoes. 2). The Venitor has shielding that goes over the landing Bay when open. Granted not all that strong! 3). With The Republic having 1000 Carriers, I could only see a portion of them being exposed to the Covenant's range weapons. At which points, the surprise element would be gone. My conclusions are that's it would be a nasty and drug-out conflict that wood rage throughout a star-system. The Fighters would thoroughly mix, and the fighter-bombers with some fighter-escort, would proceed to the capital ships. And at this point the Covenant ships would fall prey to the same failures of the Empire. Doctrine focused almost exclusively on capital ship engagements. The losses for the Republic would be over 50%, of All Ships. But, they would have the numbers and be far more open to small group actions that use powerful weapons. A Republic (if near pyrrhic) victory!
@LuisSilva-rai4 жыл бұрын
Nope the Republic would fall, why? well 1: No most V-wings dont have shields nor torpedos. 2: The Venator's, just like all SW ships will have to lower there shields to lanch there fighters. That will leave them exposed. And 3: Covenant ships range's is MUCH longer then the Venator's range and what is even worse then that is the Covies have advanced AI that will allow them to not only snipe the enemies vessel from vast distances BUT it will also allow the Covenant ships to micro jump to strategic positions. This will just further hammer home why The Covenant will win. Plus if all else fails just board the enemy vessels.

EckhartsLadder, as pointed out by Aidan Pittard with our math 524 Venators die before launching one fighter. My other big disagreement is that the republic would only have 1000 Venators to begin with. The Empire at its peak had at least 25,000 star destroyers, and although I am sure that the Republic didn't have as many it is kind of insulting to insinuate that the Republic could only muster 1000 Venators to defend it's capital. I think at least 1,500 if not way closer to 2,000 would be a more accurate number especially seeing how in attack of the clones Lama Su tells Obi-Wan that "200,000 'units' are ready with another 1,000,000 well on the way." Now the word "units" has to be referring to a military "unit" or the war would have been over really quickly. The average "unit" size for most armies is between 80-250 individual soldiers. So even using the smaller number of 80 times the 200,000 "units" that were ready, that gives us 16,000,000 soldiers. Now the battle for Coruscant happened 3 years after Attack of the Clones so we can assume that there were more clones ready by that time. Just to be on the conservative side lets say only another 250,000 "units" were ready by the battle of Coruscant for a total of about 550,000 "units" giving a solder count of 44,000,000. Now the Venator class star destroy had a crew of 7,400. That means that at the time of the battle of Coruscant the Republic could field 5,946 fully staffed Venators and that is using conservative numbers, if you go with a unit size of 250 that number jumps to 18,581 fully staffed Venators. I think the likely number of "units" ready by the battle would have been close to 750,000 seeing as how the battle happened at the end of the clone wars. Using that number and assuming the more realistic number of 150 clones per "unit" there could have been as many as 19,257 fully staffed Venators, so I think it no stretch to say they had 10,000 or even 15,000 Venators. So again to say that the Republic could only muster 1,000 Venators to defend its capitol seems way to small a number. I think you should redo this match up with at least 1,500 if not 2,000 Venators and assume that the covenant has to hit each Venator at least twice to kill it, once for the shield and again to kill it. that means that in the opening volley the covenant could only knock out 450 Venators at most. Also remember that the energy projectors take time to recharge. This will give the Republic time to launch fighters and maneuver. Now even with all of this being said I am still not sure that the Republic would win this one but it would come down way more to the star fighters and they would have a huge roll. Now I am not an expert on the star fighters and that is where you would have to decide how much of a difference it would make, but I think that the Republic could field way more than the 1,000 Venators that you gave them.
@doomnova19467 жыл бұрын
Ok I will put 3 things here that end this after that wall of drivel. 1) 10-25 CSO dreadnaughts These are fleets onto their own and are comparable to Executors in prowess...but are not that slow see point 2 2) Pinpoint Slipspace jump. All Covie ships can and do use slipspace and will use it to do pinpoint jumps anywhere which will drain them for ~8 second (Fall of Reach if memory serves). That can use this to stay out of the range of the Republic fleet and just use part 3 3) Energy Projectors This is the equalizer. Likely if we scale power levels it is dozens to hundreds of turbolasers bring fired at one point at the speed of light. If(really when) this hits it is like the death star blowing up ships at Endor. Add in the exposed bridge of the Republics Venator and the Empires SD's and SSD's makes an easy target. Or once they scan and find the reactors those. The issue in space battles is the range and power of projectors, the mobility afforded via pinpoint and quick slipspace jumps and if they were needed the sheer power of a CSO class. Those together pretty much means that the republic could have 1 000 000 (insert ship here) and it would not matter unless it was something with the weaponry of the Death Star. They cannot get close enough to use their weapons at effective ranges and short of saturation fire would not be able to deal with energy projectors and if they go with saturations fire likely more damaged ships would "slipspace rupture bomb" the Republic fleet. Resulting in dozens of ships disabled/destroyed per ship lost.
@theomousse28647 жыл бұрын
So, in the Attack Of The Clones, when Lama-Su talk about " units ", it actually is individual soldier he's talking about. The Great Army of the Republic was composed of a total of 3.000.000 clone troopers. 1000 Venators defending Coruscant seem so unreal. Must have been around a hundred at max.
@NotQuiteEnglish017 жыл бұрын
Assuming they bring their entire fleet to the party? I'm no military tactician but when you're fighting a galactic level conflict you probably don't want your entire fleet in one place, seems a little impractical. Assuming the Covenant just straight up invaded Republic space and the Republic had to react then even with your numbers there'd only be 1000 Venators to respond, tops.

There's a massive logical fallacy here where you assume that all of their forces are sitting on ships at any given point ready to fly to Coruscant instantly and that all of these ships are Venators.

One thing that it doesn't look like you were taking into account was that the carriers in the Second Fleet of Homogeneous Clarity were Covenant supercarriers, not assault carriers, which are between 5-6x the size of assault carriers. If you have several hundred 29km ships even without the 700 cruisers, and pit them against a thousand 1km ships, there's not much the star wars fleets are going to be able to do. Fighters won't even be able to scratch the surface of those monsters.

If Atlantis had all three fully powered ZPMs then hell yeah it'd kick the executors ass, the shields could withstand bombardment from wraith fleets for decades, its probably safe to assume they weren't bombarded the whole time on end but rather the fighting went back and forth for a hundred years before the ancients were overwhelmed but fully powered Atlantis is practically invincible unless it's faced with immensely overwhelming force. The drone weapons could easily bypass the shields of the executor and eliminate key systems without difficulty, and its shields would protect it from the executor. Depends on how powerful turbolasers are compared to Stargate weapons, such as Goa'uld Ship-based Staff Cannons, especially after Unending, or Wraith Ship-based Energy Weapons. Considering even after the upgrades 304s still take time to bring down multiple Ha'taks (quickly bringing them down if you include the APBs), see the Hammond fighting off 3 Lucian Ha'taks (not destroying them due to only being able to use railguns since I believe the APBs were disabled by the Lucian's initial attack). Also 304s like the Daedalus and Apollo still struggled to engage Wraith Cruisers & Hives, even one-on-one, though this was before the upgrades. Even after the upgrades, due to the weaker energy sources on the 304s compared to the Asgard, a 304's shields (even though they were Asgard shields) were significantly weaker that those on an Asgard ship, due to using Naquadah generators. Now I don't know if the Asgard Power Core in the Odyssey after Unending was used specifically for the Asgard Computer Core (even though it helped power the Time Dilation Field alongside the ZPM) but if it was used for other things then perhaps it could be slated towards the shields to make them stronger....
