this sweet guy is just great. I used to watch serious spiritual stuff on KZbin and then switch over to comedy for a break but this guy is a good combination. He helps you to understand the ridiculousness of the mind's tricks which are often quite funny. I mean he is serious and funny. He doesn't go out of his way to be funny, but in the due course of explaining very compassionately and teaching students, humor cannot be avoided for him. I really respect and enjoy Eckhart Tolle and very much appreciate his way. It is so amazing the way each enlightened teacher has their own unique pathway. Actually, a wise man once said, 'Practice makes permanent' - which is evident from the unconscious thinking reinforcing the pain body that Eckhart Tolle describes here. On the other hand, practicing something else can make that permanent over time - new habits and neuropathways. So whatever you practice may not be perfect, or lead to perfection, but it will reinforce whatever you chose to practice - making it long-lasting and difficult to shift! I learnt this from Steps to Knowledge - the book of Inner Knowing.

I suffered from life-endangering chronic depression my entire life until about 10 years ago. Medications didn't help me at all, they just stopped me from feeling altogether....no way to live life imo. I then decided to try a diet change and began a plant-based diet while eliminating all foods that caused me acidity. Three (anxiety/depression) trigger foods I found were wheat/gluten, dairy, sugar as well as processed foods of all kinds. While on a plant-based diet I check my PH levels daily with PH paper I bought at a health store, to make sure that my PH is around 7.0 at all times. If for some reason my PH level falls, I drink a glass of water with baking soda to level it out again. What I've found since my awakening is that food is a big factor in our well being and shouldn't be treated as entertainment. Grouped with meditation and present awareness, diet can take you to an amazing level of awareness and well being. Now, the only time I have any degree of depression or anxiety is when I 'treat' myself to foods that contain corn, sugar, wheat/gluten, dairy or that are processed. It's just a matter of weighing out your priorities....which is more important.... being /feeling well or binging on toxic foods that affect your well being. Not an easy decision, but a no brainer where I was concerned as it literally was a decision between life and death. Just a note.... when I say "plant-based diet" I don't mean go out and buy "vegan" foods off the shelf as these are so unhealthy. Those are simply processed foods, full of corn/wheat flour and chemicals that don't contain animal products and they do not have the nutrition that you need to be healthy, physically or mentally. By plant based, I'm referring to organic vegetables (esp. dark leafy greens, but always wilt these before eating) and fruit, nuts, seeds, cold pressed oils, fermented foods, good salt (Himalayan Pink). I also use organic pasta made of lentils, quinoa etc. as a filler, never conventional acid inducing pasta. I hope this helps someone as much as it did me :)

Glad you're feeling better after changing your diet but be careful with the baking soda - you want your stomach to be as low a ph as possible in order to help digestion and provide an acidic enough environment for healthy gut bacteria to flourish. The dark leafy greens on their own should be more than sufficient to maintain a neutral saliva ph. If you're concerned about your saliva reading being off ensure you're getting plenty of electrolytes to help your body buffer the more acidic foods. You can do a test with lemon juice and ph strips to check whether this is working correctly (look up lemon juice ph test). Apple cider vinegar before meals is good for giving your digestion a boost. I'm no expert but this is something I've been learning about recently as I've had digestive issues caused by taking medication for acid reflux that actually ended up causing worse reflux and associated issues, and the solution was ensuring I had a more acidic stomach. I've been much happier in all sorts of ways since.

There isn't any magic formula for escaping suffering, there is a journey to be taken - it is only through this journey that the individual will be able to see what causes suffering in themselves and in others. Taking the journey is what matters, making the changes, making the important decisions, practicing stillness - doing what it takes. No quick fixes, no shortcuts - only the journey and the steps on that journey. The book Steps To Knowledge provides a framework for this journey and my study of it has brought me to a point where I can see my suffering with clear eyes and what is causing it - I recommend it to anyone interested in making the journey.

I love Eckhart... And I didn't hear him fully answer this guy's question. The questioner said his ability to feel things has greatly diminished...doesn't look forward to things...joy dissipates quickly when with friends... I went thru that in my awakening process. It's a stripping away of identification with people/places/things that bring us joy. When that process is complete (which for me was long and painful) we have access to causeless joy...the joy that doesn't require anything on the outside. Looking forward to things dissolved because presence is now where I reside. Just wanted to point out this was an important step in my awakening...

You are suffering because on some level you want it, you are attached to it, it keeps you feeling safe and secure in the idea of being “you”. This is “my” suffering, as Eckhart says. When you are genuinely sick of it - I suspect the questioner isn’t from looking at him and his level of attachment to the sufferer, but when you are, you will crash right through that wall screaming sobbing into infinity, that energy of pain transforms into godliness, all of creation will smile and laugh with you.

I have heard this same issue from several other people using Mr Tolle's system - namely that they lose their ability to feel intense emotions, and over time have trouble feeling anything at all. I think Mr Tolle is a wonderful man, and his advice and books have a lot of super helpful information. But after experiencing my own Awakening, it seems to me that his process only gives part of the picture. He gives the psychological mechanics, but if you practice that alone divorced from any kind of spirituality, it therefore becomes an intensely mind-based program. We need to evolve our minds AND our hearts together.

💥 This is exactly what happens to me. Random negative thoughts, many unconscious, which destroys my pleasure to live. Negative energies which go round and round, thinking about bad things that may happen in the future, or amplifying, creating drama over the current situation. Eckhart hits on the spot. That's IT, man ! 🎉❤❤❤

I have found that actions, not mind games changed me. I struggled for decades, then i took up the Catholic faith and my life completely changed. My life is one now, where I seek holiness through prayer, the sacraments and helping others. I have stopped searching for a solution or happiness, these are granted to me through my faith in Jesus and good deeds. My life finally has meaning, I understand the way things work, where I had gone wrong, where I am going, what I have to do!

Good for you. Some others have found that peace after escaping the religion they were born into. Often just making that personal decision to change your own life is beneficial.

The book, "The Untethered Soul," by MIchael Singer, can be VERY helpful in learning how to back up and observe one's thoughts, which are not the same as one's true self.

Choose inspiration over motivation, because the inspiration comes from something good you want to move towards to, while the motivation comes from something bad you're wanting to move away from, and pushing against just pulls whatever that unwanted is, closer! 💓💓💓💓💓💓

A master with words, words out of stillness. Eckhart is the best,... he takes the time to explain, without 2 many poetic metaphors (i love poetry, and play with words, but 2 many metaphors can make the learning, and way more dificult) . Im forever greatfull, 4 every moment of awareness, and inner stillness. Love and peace from a human being living in Denmark.

thank you for presenting the most difficult experiences of being human in such an understandable way. I know I'm not alone in my struggles as we are all interdependent and I hope for the end of suffering and the destruction of the seed of suffering for all.Keep well and remember your successes no matter how small you think they are, because their not. Funny thing. I intuitevely did the same excercise without watching this video ( I guess my ego is bragging now :) . I was feeling kind of crappy, a bit unsettled for no apparent reason, then I looked around ( like Alan Watts would suggest ) without naming, labeling things. Everything, birds, trees, sky. Gradually the bitter feeling inside vanished which is really nice.

I also think that depression or pain can be a warning to the self that something needs to change in your life, just as our body tells us when something is not right. Pain gets our attention, if we listen to it we might find that we suffer because we are avoiding certain truths in our lives. People do not like to face the truth even if it sets you free. We might need to let go of something or someone and that we will cause suffering so we pretend. If you are not being true to yourself your suffering will be endless. Suffering is inevitable, however we can reduce the amount of needless suffering which is what I think Tolle is referring to.

I am constantly tweaking my approach to confronting ego/painbody, constantly experimenting. Today after watching Eckhart Tolle's Is The State of Presence Devoid of Emotional Content? video. I began again yet another new approach which seems to be working beautifully at the moment. Instead of just aggressively confronting the painbody or ego/gold directly when awareness of it becoming dominant arises. I ask a simple question. "What am I?" Instead of aggressively speaking to ego/painbody and telling it that is is not me nor my friend. I simply answer the question directing it at the ego with "I am awareness". From there if need be I fallow with "I am not - thought, impulse, suspicion or emotion. I am awareness of them. "I am awareness" aka I am aware of you. I get much less resistance with this method over being directly aggressive. IMO it is a method of aggressively speaking truth to power. A power which ego/gold cannot seem to strike doubt in as easily. Where as when I would say "you are not me" it would often be able to wiggle in and strike doubt and fear into the whole process. Which in turn became exhausting as from there I would struggle to close the gaps that would allow it to seep in again. I noticed something else very interesting while doing this new method. If I tried to speak to just "myself" as if I was trying to convince "myself" that I was awareness. Feelings of doubt and fear would commonly become dominant. But when I would speak this directed at painbody/ego it had a nice punch to it that immediately seemed to disrupt and or dissolve the painbody/ego in that moment. It would seem that speaking this truth to power directed at the painbody/ego has a great affect. Compared to maybe trying to convince "yourself" that this or that is true.. It would seem speaking any truth to power directed at the painbody/ego has great affect almost immediately.

It would seem speaking any truth to power directed at the painbody/ego sings songs of awareness that it finds very indigestible.
@boblazare98245 жыл бұрын
This power seems to be even stronger if you say it like you really mean it. When I don't hear the painbody/ego. I feel it as a tension, pain and or discomfort somewhere in or on my body. This tension, pain and or discomfort is where I direct that truth to power. The results are amazing I get almost immediate relief from the tension, pain and or mental heaviness. Its been blowing my mind.

@@boblazare9824 Very interesting. So are you basically saying "i'm aware of you" to the pain body? Can you give more specifics? Thanks.
@boblazare98245 жыл бұрын
@@janett7849 When you feel a negative or discomforting thought, emotion, tension, pain or any kind of discomfort arising. Proceed with directed focus on it that you are awareness. When I feel it arising I will feel tension somewhere on or in my body usually the head or face especially the eyes. This is where I direct my awareness. It can actually get pretty freaky when doing this as sometimes I will feel tension or pain quiver or move when confronted. Sometimes slowly like a snake and sometimes quick like lightning. When it moves quickly I will usually experience some type of muscle spasm. Where the pain and or tension will move from my head or face into my legs or feet very quickly. It is very bizarre.
@boblazare98245 жыл бұрын
@@janett7849 Another thing I have been trying as of late. Is something based on what many spiritual teachers as well as Eckhart Tolle speak of. Ultimately the painbody and or ego is a part of your life energy that has become fallen, stuck and trapped in an illusion of separation. Within that context it isn't your enemy per say. However to paraphrase Eckhart again. Due to the painbody and or ego being trapped as-is in that illusion of separation it has become dangerous. Taking this into serious consideration. I have been not just directing my awareness at painbody but also directing a call to for it to let go and come home. That it can again become a seamless flow of awareness and aliveness without resistance, pain, delusion or separation.

Here's something from a young Indian boy. If you forget yourself , if you put something above yourself it will have power over you. Never ever give anything more importance than yourself because what you value more has power over you. So Value yourself. In the moments of fear and suffering don't forget that you exist. You exist and then suffering.More important than your phone, job, love affairs, anything. Don't forget yourself. Be conscious. And that's what man has been trying, man wants to forget himself, to be engaged into something, to be unaware of the problem. Take the responsibility of it now. Don't forget because that's what happens, the moment suffering arises man forgets himself. Don't forget.
