Fantastic video of the eclipse Andrew. It was amazing too where I was in Montreal. Around 3:15 pm we were in the dark for about 1 minute and then the sun was surronded by some kind of white and purple halo for a couple of minutes. I watched without glassed directly in the sun. This whole experience was like science fiction to me, it was so amazing. We were lucky to have a very clear blue sky today to watch this.

I got my little telescope out, slapped on the solar filter, and spent the next 10-15 minutes looking for the sun. Surprisingly difficult, without looking at the sun.
@trapdoorspringfieldmodel1888
@trapdoorspringfieldmodel1888 2 ай бұрын
An good way to find the sun is to use the shadow of the telescope. When the shadow is directly behind the telescope you will be pointed in the general direction of the sun, and then it is just a matter of doing some basic sweeps of the sky until the sun comes into view.

In Nj it wasn’t even dark. It was like a cloudy rainy day. That’s as dark as it got. And in the distance the sky was blue and can be. The clouds moved in as the eclipse started so not many saw something here. I was busy driving and food shopping. I figured I’d see great videos so I didn’t bother to get glasses. And I was right. The guy at the post office was mad cuz he couldn’t see anything. The guy at the produce place was mad too because of the clouds . I said “it was a big bust and im not surprised”. 😂

Halley's Comet will next show up sometime in 2061. Hale-Bopp will makes it return sometime around the year 4385. In 2020 there was the Comet Neowise that made for a good show, and its next return will be in about 6,800 years. The next one up that might prove to be a good show is Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, and that is going to be sometime in Fall 2024

The eclipse went fairly well here in the Intermountain West. I had good weather with my telescope setup using the appropriate solar filters, and I was able to see a partial solar eclipse in the 35 - 40 percent range. It was pretty cool to see the eclipse along with various sunspots. The best was when I used the same setup to experience the total solar eclipse in 2017, and had the benefit of the ISS being in front of the Sun while that eclipse was going on! Totality is truly a sight to behold! The experience of totality this time was watching it on T.V., and for me the totality just went by in a blink of an eye while experiencing it in person in 2017 it felt as if time just stopped.

@@heygetoffmylawn1572 I have actually not missed the real thing as I have already experienced totality. This time I actually wanted to experience a partial solar eclipse, and to see the coverage of it in real time that I didn't get to experience the last time.
