Conquerer-class destroyers were pretty weak. They were only 1.6 km long, and the super laser was about as powerful as the Eclipse's.

Typical Star Wars shields are overwhelmed by simply pumping more firepower into them than they can handle. Yuuzhan Vong dovin basals are overwhelmed by being forced to multitask more than they are capable of, i.e.: by hitting it in multiple places in rapid succession, not by hitting it in one place very hard. This is demonstrated early on in the war, as X-Wing pilots adjust their laser cannons to fire in low-powered but constant bursts, so as to exhaust coralskipper dovin basals. What this means is that the Worldship's defenses are ideally suited to handle the Eclipse. The thick outer coral shell can just tank the turbolasers and laser cannons, while several dovin basals pool together to make a single big singularity right along the line of fire of the superlaser, nullifying the weapon completely. At that point, it is the numerous plasma projectors on the worldship, plus the overwhelming starfighter superiority, slowly tearing the Eclipse apart. The only way I can see the Eclipse winning is if they rammed the worldship at sufficient speed to punch completely through it, and that is assuming its shields + hull integrity are enough to handle this attack, which we cannot be sure it is.

The big domes on the Eclipse are gravity weapons and tractor beams. The hull alone was quoted to be nearly indestructible, and there were four very high powered shield generators across the hull. The big thin front of the ship was made so that it could be used to move full speed and ram an Executor with little to no damage. The Eclipse was designed to be the Emperors flagship, carrying him, and had hundreds of thousands of turbo lasers, and its color could obviously be used to hide in the shadows cast by planets. The Super laser was made to be capable of destroying a planet at full power, and at low power could wipe out life on half a planet while cracking a supercontinent. It held tens of thousands of TIE Ships and shuttles, and had a crew the size of the first Death Star. Just to give you info and an idea. Yes I am a freaking nerd. But point is, Eclipse wins hands down.

there's a wildcard. Dovin basals, the organisms the yuuzhan vong use for defense among other things, don't actually deflect or block enemy fire. they generate *micro-black holes* that *absorb* enemy fire. They are limited in the volume of fire they can absorb, as they don't seem have a constant MBH open, but rather open one whenever they detect incoming fire. but I don't recall reading if there's a limit to the amount of mass their MBH can absorb at any given instant. Also, the method through which they can drain a ship's shields, can be countered by extending the target vessel's inertial compensation field to just beyond that of the deflector shield, but this counter can be defeated by increasing the number of dovin basals trying to drain that ship's shields, which results in the target being torn apart. Also, the dovin basals seem to not treat an inert object floating through space as a threat, and in fact, yuuzhan vong ships will [eat] for lack of a better word, any meteorite or other space debris floating through space, for fuel and projectiles with which to fire. Jedis would exploit this, by launching armed but unpowered proton torpedoes, and guiding them to the target with the force, which the dovin basals wouldn't detect as a threat. Which begs the question... exactly how much matter could a micro black hole swallow, and how long can a dovin basal maintain one? and what is the duration and width of the Eclipse' superlaser beam? because the eclipse' superlaser is still a single shot weapon. [IF] a simple micro black hole can absorb the superlaser of the eclipse, then it'd be up to the eclipse and every craft she can field, to pump enough raw volume of fire out, and pray that the superlaser can get through in the commotion. The new republic got around this, by [patching?] the laser cannons on say, an X-wing, to fire many rapid, lower powered blasts, and i'm sure they could work something out with the turbolasers on an SSD, but then you have to wonder if range will be negatively impacted? Yuuzhan vong weapons are primarily balls of magma, or streams of plasma. both of which, are essentially super heated matter that cools and loses effectiveness quickly at range. if the Eclipse can keep its distance, it'll only have to deal with the lesser weapons of coral skippers, but the closer it gets to the worldship, the harder that worldship can lay into the SSD, and the more effective its dovin basals would be at tugging at and defeating the SSD's deflector shields. So [IF] the Eclipse' superlaser can be maintained longer than the duration of a dovin basal micro black hole, or if the laser beam can be made wide enough that an MBH only decreases its power, and/or further disperses the beam, or if the Eclipse can overload the worldship's defenses with volume of fire, then the eclipse might as well sit at range and take pot shots, and let the coralskippers do what they will (which is to say, probably slaughter however many unshielded TIEs the eclipse throws at them). If the superlaser becomes a non-factor, would the Eclipse' captain have the confidence in the engineering of his vessel, to actually try and ram something the size of the worldship? The new republic did that with the Lusankya to a fully healthy worldship, but they also cored her out, reinforced that core and filled it with explosives for good measure. Neither of those ships survived that encounter. Would a worldship survive a ramming? Because if it can, then it's in a significantly better position, with its foe burried inside it, to inflict all sorts of pain. you'd be feeding its weapons matter with which to super heat and shoot back at you. I'd call this battle inconclusive. If the Eclipse' Superlaser is in play, it wins. If it can go for a *fatal* ram, it wins. all other scenarios, i'm really not confident in either ship's ability to inflict damage to the other through conventional means.

The Eclipse shows up and due to recon craft knew the exact position of the World Ship and all its escorts. It fires it's superlaser but the beam only crippled the worldship because all its gravity based defenses and its escorts dissipated it's power. The Eclipse moves the ram as many escort craft as it can to take out as many coral skippers as possible before they can launch. Every Worldship escort though is moving to surround the Eclipse and they're looking like they'll overwhelm it before the Eclipse can recharge it's beam, they're further hoping to knock out it's engines to prevent it from ramming them as the accursed ship has been known to do in past engagements. That however is when the ships brain starts panicking, as the second Eclipse has just exited hyperspace with its weapon fully charged and primed. The Vong watch in horror as their World Ship dies in front of their very eyes. Craft turn away from the first Eclipse to Avenge their deaths by accursed machines. In that moment they have fully lost though, with all their numbers it's quite possible they could have defeated at least one Eclipse if not both, but with their forces now divided between two of them and all assemblance on tactics lost in their blind fury, they've places themselves in the killing fields between their two firing fields. An hour later it's all over. Grand Admiral Pellaeon knows Thrawn would have been proud of him using the Vong's very psychology against them.

The main problem I would see with the effectiveness of the Eclipse's Superlaser, thus the outcome is that the dovin basals were capable of using micro-blackholes to absorb laser fire better than standard shield tech in the StarWars Universe. This would tip a first encounter match in the Vong's favor, or Imperial incompetence. Opening with a full turbolaser barage to bog down the Dovin Basals before firing the superlaser would drastically improve odds of success. (The Dovin Basals and their capabilities are actually the main thing that would keep me up at night were I to face the Yuuzhan Vong.)

And put aside arms and power or super weapons. The Empire knew the Vong were coming. They knew what they were fighting and the Empire is ruthless. In the first two months, the NR refused to commit to the war against the Vong when the Vong were most vulnerable. Combine foreknowledge and ruthlessness, those first two months won't go well for the Vong, with early losses and deaths (even putting aside the victories the protagonist were able to pull off due to being protagonists) this would high. And the Empire would go after the aging worldships on the edge of the galaxy to eliminate their civilian and shaper populations.

It's a little late but the SSD that rammed the worldship was also filled with high explosives (proton torpedos and such) so it is like far more durable but still could not stand up too a superlaser capable of cracking a planet.

Another thing is that the Dovin Basal's are not only used for defense, they're also means for propulsion. If the Eclipse was to unleash it's entire weapons complement (barring the super laser) at the World Ships, the Basals would be too busy trying to stop the weapon's fire to effectively move the vessel, providing the Eclipse with an almost still target. Another thing to clarify, Dovin Basals actually create miniature black holes to absorb enemy fire, or even pull in starfighters.

The tardis does have powerful shields as statet by captain jack. However it's not indestructeble as the daleks nearly destroyed it. The doctor also said that some dalek specialist could get by the shields like it was nothing.

One important factor to account for is the element of surprise. The Yuuzhan Vong were optimized to destroy traditional forces, whereas the traditional forces (Imperial Remnant, New Republic) didn't know how to fight them when the invasion began. Thus, the initial forces facing the Vong were almost completely wiped out - even Jedi and capital ships. It wasn't as simple as simply firing lots of blasters at the Vong. That factor would balance out the battle, if this was the first time the SD faced the Vong.

Watching this a year after it was uploaded, I have one thing to say that would put the Eclipse in a significantly big advantage. The world ship, being a living being more than an actual ship, can be killed. This is why it was probably destroyed by an executor ramming it it, the ship killed the world ship so a miniature death star laser would be able to absolutely destroy the shell as it would be living material and since living material rots very quickly under immense heat

The question really comes down to the limits of a Dovin Basal and how long the Eclipse can keep a continuous beam from its Superlaser. Normally the only way to overcome a dovin basal is to not set it off or to shoot multiple bursts all over its surface area.

There's another thing to consider with the Worldships and that is the Yanmmosk (Organic Super Computers with long range telepathic abilities) which can detect the Eclipse from afar and might plan in accord for it (for example, by launching it's Coral Skippers beforehand so the Eclipse can be ambushed from the flanks and rear before it can scramble it's Fighters and line the Superlaser). Not to mention that the Worldship is interconnected with others in a telepathic network thanks to the Yammosks so, even if one Worldship gets destroyed by the Eclipse, the others will notice it and react

Gravity well generators can be used to over work dovin basils and reduve their ability to stop incoming fire. This tactic was used at the battle of Ithor in the yuuzhan vong war novels. I forget which one tho.

I think it depends on if the empire knows how to get past the black hole generators of the vong. If I remember correctly the new republic could not even damage the coral skippers until they discovered that they needed to fire around the gravity Wells created by the vong defenses in order to strike the craft

If anything, you overestimate the Vong worldship, it is still biological ship afterall, I think the battle would progress more like this: The Eclipse exits hyperspace and immediately fires a superlaser shot at the worldaship, crippling it and moves in for the kill with her turbolasers and other smaller weapons, and if the captain of the Eclipse wishes to, he could even cut right through the worldship like a giant 17km long hot knife through fleshy ship stuff. After all, ramming is encouraged with the Eclipse. Also, I want a match-up between the Vindicator-class Frigate and the Munificent-class Frigate!

While I overall agree with you on this, when using the example of a worldship being rammed by a SSD, it's worth mentioning that the SSD in question had the first kilometer or so of it's prow loaded with high explosives.

The gravity well projectors alone would overload the Dovenbaisls shielding capability because the would be more focused on maneuvering at that point. See the battle of Ithor.

The main problem with the eclipse is, like others imperial capital ships and dreadnaughts, the lack of anti-fighters equipment such as laser cannons. For this reason imo the yuuzan vong worldship has more chances to win than the eclipse, even if it does get destroyed by the superlaser, because of the small craft superiority.

If the Eclipse's superlaser hits a Dovan Basal's mini black hole and is powerful enough to overload it, the collapse of even a mini black hole seems like it would be far more destructive than the superlaser was in the first place.

there's one tiny problem... the Yuuzhan Vong have dovin basals, which can alter gravity. the way the new republic countered this was large amounts of lasers of variable intensity. a super laser isn't something you can throw at a target like a Gatling gun, and thus all you would need is a single dovin basal to alter the beam path (or a few perhaps) and deflect the beam (as absorbing firepower into the black hole is shown to tire the dovin basal). so basically the super laser would be worse than useless.

Electric_Bagpipes The Eclipse has more than enough weapons to overcome a dovin basal. The Eclipse could focus its weapon emplacements to widdle down the dovin basal, and then finish off said world ship with a single blast from its axial superlaser.

It might be possible to shoot a superlaser in while the basals are distracted, but they have to have some sort of prediction sensors if they can block literal lightspeed lasers... something might detect the charge up pf the superlaser and decide to say “screw the little lasers, lets stop that one.”

As to the Emperor during the YV War, I think that the Empire would have defeated the YV quicker but at much greater loss. I think the Emperor would have happily allowed multiples of planets to be destroyed and have shot the refugee ships out of the sky to avoid dealing with them. I also think that the YV were some of the best positioned in the Star Wars Universe to counter the Empire's super weapons. Without the Jedi Order really tanking the YV warriors I think the Death Star would have been invaded and turned into a world ship.

The Yuuzhan Vong would have destroyed the Death Star, not captured it. It's essentially a mechanical world. Furthermore, I think they probably would have sabotaged it rather than invading it. The interesting thing would have been whether Yuuzhan Vong assassins could kill the Emperor, and if so, what would happen then.

The battle as was described can only happen if the Empire has full knowledge of the Yuuzhan Vong weapons and defenses before going into battle. While the Yuuzhan Vong not having any knowledge of the empire at all for the scenario to happen the way it did. Which I think is seriously unfair, I won't go into everything that I have issue with but one of the two things I will mention is the super laser's use in this battle. I won't say that the world ship can strung off a hit of the Eclipse's super laser but I don't think it would be hit with it at all. The Yuuzhan Vong don't have shields like the Empire and the Republic, they do have Dovin basal, they manipulate gravity. As such they're the propulsion for Yuuzhan Vong vessels but they're also effectively shields. of a sort also. Because they manipulate gravity they can actually form mini black holes, so when a Yuuzhan Vong vessel is shot at they form a black hole in front of the projectile and get sucked in. Yuuzhan Vong one man fighters were able to tank fire from capital ships because of this, so unless you know exactly how to counter them things are going to go badly for the Empire. The second is that do to the gravity manipulating effects of the Dovin basal they can very easily take down the shield of a vessel, even one as large as the Eclipse quite literately in 2-3 seconds, unless just like before you know exactly how to counter that from happening. There are more issues but these two are I believe the biggest, if the Empire has full knowledge of the enemy then at least give the same advantage to the Yuuzhan Vong, because they weren't stupid so they did come up with various tactics to deal with the both the Empire and New Republic.

The Yuuzhan Vong worldship would have been entirely in its own, but the Eclipse Syar Dreadnought would have had a fleet of conventional Star Destroyers, perhaps Imperial -II class SDs & other ships, so it would have been an entire fleet of Imperial ships together against the Worldship in the Empire controlled galaxy,..
