I have a gas system on mine and I did the psc conversion. I had two speed taps on my "H18" motor. I traced them back to a control board. One was "AC" and one was listed "gas heat". I used a seperate relay for each. I wired them same way you did. I wired my high speed psc wire to the AC and my medium speed to the GAS heat signal. Using the 24 volt to turn seperate relays on. Im an auto mechanic by trade so Im no expert at home HVAC. AC works great in the house now and I think the heat will too but I have not tried it yet. Still pretty warm out by me. Cost me $220 for the motor, capacitor and relays. The ECM motor was already replaced 2 years ago by previous owner of the house. Another genteq OEM replacement was 1100$. I know I could buy a much cheaper aftermarket but I dont want to be bothered replacing these every 2 years. After I diagnosed my motor as bad and learned about the ECM motor I was like screw this piece of junk. Cars are the same way now a days. Everythings designed to fail.

As long as the thermostat energizes "G" when you ask for strips , if not , you have no fan with hot coils .

That was a great story in the beginning there John.

This adaptation is good as long as the fan motor is for a unit with an electric heater, because in a system with a gas heater, this kind of adaptation can never be done because the relay generates a spark. greetings.

Hey John, it's great to see you back, I often wondered why I didn't see you. I don't need details, it's just great to see you again. All the best to you. Hopefully you'll start making videos again.

Awesome video 😎 I might have to do this to my Rheem unit. I'll have to watch your video a few times and write things down. Hope everything is great with you 👍

What about a new gas furnace with a board that has a time delay that starts the motor? In the old days you put the "Heater Speed" on the normally closed set of contacts because the fan switch would bring on the fan and the cooling speed on the normally open because "G" would energize in cool

old G signal , i got gas so i gets my furnace turns on the fan and not the thermostat , thanks for videos and taking the time to share your journey and career :)

Really glad to have you back. My 4 year old got into HVAC and we went through all the old IsraelHVAC videos while you were gone last fall. It's awesome that you are back on your own, choosing what fulfills you and making videos again. Much appreciated, and best wishes going forward!

John, glad your back. Have you ever replaced the round pancake resistor in the ECM module? That is almost always what I run into. In a pinch you can jump across what's left of the resistor until a replacement can be found. It's a $10 part and the furnace doesn't lose its efficiency

It's a thermistor. Basically it's a resistor that varies its resistance with heat.

If you have to do gas/package and board is out. Can use time delay to bring on fan 1/24 seconds and will give fan as heat exchanger heats up. Common/White

May want to check duct static on that system. Had a lot of x13 going bad due to high static. Also I have been installing the evergreen aftermarket ECM x13 that are considerably cheaper that oem and are basically just the same thing. They have a variety of sizes as well.

Didn't see your high voltage jumper from the switch to the HK? Or does that particular thermostat call for "G" in electric Heat also?

Not a good test for fan turning right direction. A squirrel cage fan like that will still move air with the motor going the wrong direction (but not as much). To save electricity I cooled my garage with a fan like yours running backwards.

I do x13 to PSC conversions quite a bit, typically when it’s older equipment that’s out of warranty. An x13 is not really a true variable speed motor anyway. And PSC motors are a lot more reliable in my opinion.

when checking for correct blower operation- just look at the fins and see what way they are cupped, and see how the squirrel cage is shaped going to the duct- that is the rotation it is supposed to go. i can see a novice tech doing what you did and in goes the piece of insulation lol

Easy on a heat pump , more complicated on a gas pack due to the need of heating blower off delay , but can be done .
