You don't need any relays. Just wire it direct to defrost board and contactor like a standard hp. The difference between hi/lo rpm on that 4 pole motor is not going to be enough to affect anything and it will be much simpler. I've got several in the field working fine.

@@TaddyDigest I don't work on heat pumps much, would that defrost board for the black wire control when voltage is sent to the motor based on cooling demand? Making the relays and 24v control wire redundant?

If he wasn't a hack, he would have known he didn't need relays. I wonder where he learned that? If a guy that doesn't work on heat pumps often knows how to fix it better than the guy doing the work, that is scary that you are allowed to even do this type of work. Oh wait! You are not licensed and just have a KZbin page. You literally installed the wiring incorrectly so the fan ran the incorrect direction. Haha!! Such a hack!!

Why would you need the relays,,, A call for cooling or heating will energize the contactor which will bring this motor on... L1 or L2 Of the motor will be hooked to the defrost board. The other line will be at the contactor to control this motor on defrost mode.... You were not using the low speed on this condenser motor if you were then the relays would be needed because it was a two stage system (compressor)... But you were only using the high speed on the condenser motor.... Just wondering thanks for your video

Cool. Looking forward to it. Ted, do you have any tip of replacing furnace ecm (with dc signal) blower motor with psc motor (maybe with the universal control board), on single/two stage furnaces. I couldnt figure out, or find any info. All motors are furnace specific, expensive and not always in stock. Very frustrating.

You talking about the ones with the 16 pin connectors? If so Qwik Products makes a board called qwikswap v3 and you plug the connectors into the board and then it's got spots on it for different speed taps for a PSC motor to replace the ecm

@@TaddyDigest we on the same page 😁. Hope you're having a good start to the week man. It's not something I like to do but in desperate times I've also "hard wired" a PSC to run 24/7 so you don't have to worry about controlling it on / off - it's just always running. Not something I recommend or like to do but it was an old piece of equipment and the people were good friends in a bad place 🤷🏻‍♂️ Qwikswap is nice but pretty expensive

@@hvacmisadventures unfortunately, no :( I am talking about ecm motors (constant cfm) with with serial communication 4 signal wires, with DC volt/amp signal. All proprietary and not interchangeable (between brands, probably not even between models of the same brand). Looks like all furnaces are using those type of motors now. I didnt see any new furnace with 24v signal ecm motor.
@jamesbroomfield7799
@jamesbroomfield7799 Жыл бұрын
I don't understand. Why is the low voltage needed still? I thought the whole purpose of eliminating the ecm motor was to get away from all those low voltage wiring. Couldn't you just run the psc motor black and white to the top of the contactor and the 2 Browns to the cap? Then once calling for cooling the contactor closes and turns on the compressor along with the fan. Or are you still trying to keep both hi and low speed on the unit? The unit I'm trying to figure out is a Gibson. First time ever working on this brand. The outdoor fan motor black and brown go directly to line 1 and 2 of contactor, the white and I believe yellow, go directly to the 24v side of the transformer. Then a blue wire goes to the board where I think it says fan 2. I accidentally erased the pics I had cuz they were blurry and forgot to retake pics before heading down. But the blue wire definitely goes to the board. I just can't fully remember what the point was, I believe it said fan 2. This is in Vegas so defrost probably not going to be used. Any advice on how to go direct to a psc motor would be greatly appreciated. I was hoping to directly wire it like any other regular condenser fan motor. The only wire I'm concerned about is the blue wire going to the board. If I leave that disconnected would it cause any issues? Any feedback is super helpful. Thanks in advance. Nvm. Lol. Smh. I realized this was a heat pump. Im pretty sure im working on a gas pack. I only looked at it for a hot sec because i was fixing the other unit next to it, which was just a badic Goodman gas pack. I was going back the next day to look at the Gibson but i just took quick glance at it and saw the outdoor fan wasn't running. I was wondering why you had two relays lol

Thanks for this. All ECM motors are garbage & unreliable at best. Whatever money & energy you think you are saving by being efficient. You will be punished by the repair cost. Any & all ECM motors out of warranty quickly get a PSC upgrade & my customers are thrilled.

Cheap capacitors are no bargain. If you are inclined, you can replace the caps on that circuit board with new ones, clean it up, and it will probably work.

Instead of using relays couldn't you just attach it to the contactor when it calls for cooling and closes to turn on the compressor? Could you just wire it like any other fan to the contactor? And br br to the cap? This is on a gas pack not hp. Also. I just realized youre working on an hp

Hi, I'm confused with this fan motor replacement with relay. Can I replace it without a relay? The reason you use relays is because it's a heat pump, right? I love all your videos. Thanks for all your KZbin videos.

TADDY: I like the way you say these two wires without reinforcing which wires these two wires are. Very lazy to not speak in complete sentences. Not having to read somebody else’s mind is a helpful thing. If you’re not academically acute, maybe you need to work on it with excellence in mind. I say this with the utmost respect for you, you are an exquisite human being.Why is it people don't budget for HVAC maint & upkeep from the git-go? That's all about neglect. Regular maintenance will solve problems B4 they become ultra problems. WORD...😢😢

What is so aggravating is they don’t sell the module separately. New motor should be $200 at most and a new module a should be $200-$250z The inrush limiter or the capacitors go bad but manufacturers want all the cash so the pour silicon all over the components so servicing with a new 105c cap for 12 bucks or a 3 dollar inrush current limiter from Dudley can’t be easily replaced and only sells a complete assembly and want $700-$1100

Once again, knowing a technical thing, and knowing how to teach it, are two different things for most people. Most people think they’re smart enough not to engage acute perspective on what they’re doing. Think about what you’re doing while you’re teaching something. One lesson to learn, is to keep your fat fingers out of the picture while you’re showing something. Use a chopstick or pencil pointer of some sort. Have somebody with acute observational skills review your instructional videos, and learn from their perspective. Invariably most blue-collar, technical people eschew better educational perspectives. Being academically lazy I say, to be avoided…

"900 to 1100 rpm" Seriously, what is even the point of this over complicated non-sense. Sure, save $1.37 in electricity over the course of a few years for whenever the motor spins 900 rpm instead of 1100. And then pay out $1500 to replace it when it fails way before a psc motor would have 😂
