It would be interesting to know what the service record was like as I’m guessing the car has been looked after and the correct oil used. From memory Ford originally had a much longer replacement time for the belt and it’s use of the wrong oil the degrades the rubber and blocks the pickup.
@stephenk0nig25213 күн бұрын

@Mk2GolfNut14 күн бұрын
Keep up the oil changes with the proper oil. Even if you change it every 5K it still cheaper than doing this Job over the lifetime of the car. As the engine oil gets old, it smells more and more like petrol and fumes. It's a well known fact that petrol degrades rubber. In my opinion, this is probably the main contributing factor of why these belts degrade so much. Even the recommended service schedule is probably too long as the manufacturer doesn't want your car to last forever!

Life has become scary. (Like having to put our "real life" data into almost every website to get stuff.) Now I am looking at bits of engines which I would think you'd really rather not expose to the daylight, but rather leave "sealed from the factory" - cranks, cams, all the very bones - not that I'd think you'd drop a chunk o' pasty in there . . . but heavens it makes me a bit wobbly at the very thought. Oh well. Price of progress I suppose.
@laser439814 күн бұрын
A great engine but very sensitive to correct maintenance. If you want a Fiesta that you can abuse then buy one with the old 4 cylinder engine. However if you want an economical, but powerful car with great handling because the engine is light then buy an eco boost 123hp. A warm hatch that can do over 50mpg and 0-60 in less than 10secs. It does need good maintenance though. Oil changes more than once a year and it has to be exactly the correct oil, and change it at intervals less than the handbook 10,000 miles. It's a complicated engine and the cam belt has to be changed at 10 years or less. My 2013, 135,000 mile Fiesta does 52 mpg on the motorway and yet I have a power to weight ratio of well over a 100 bhp per ton. On any other engine I'd be needing a third dry belt, as it is I've only recently fitted a replacement belt. The cost would be equivalent but I've got probably another 10 years before I need to bother again.
@YZJB14 күн бұрын
On Ford’s engines with dry belts, the interval is 10 years/240,000km. You wouldn’t be on your third belt.
