When BMW took over mini they wanted to give the customer the authentic mechanical experience as well as retro looks, but at a premium price.

I like Baz’s videos, they have that “Blue Peter” style about them - you are encouraged to do the task yourself. However ! - nearly all of the tasks need professional garage tools, but even so, fun to watch.

The trouble with mini and bmw is that they don't sell replacement parts for the inside of the box. That's why you had to wait longer as it takes us longer to find the right people selling the aftermarket parts 👌

True fact. Last weekend I changed the gearbox oil in my girlfriend's 2006 Mitsubishi Colt CZ3. The alledged "filled for life" gearbox oil came out completely black. Poured in fresh oil and the sent the girlfriend for a spin. She came back raving about how easy it now is to select gears. Lesson learnt, don't wait 18 years before changing gearbox oil. Just do it every year or so (just like brake fluid) because £15ish for 2 litres of Castrol's finest is a bargain and you get a happy partner too, which counts as a great result. 🙂

@@Zgurkogel this year i changed the gearbox oil in my 2010 Punto Evo with only 25k on the clock it was black. Think il change it every 3 years .

Interesting as always Bazarooney. Any theories Baz as to why this failed? Think i put a comment on the short that the getrag manual 6 in my 2010 bmw n47 diesel failed at 140k miles. Bearings went and they did a few synchro while there. The auto zf boxes seem to be good for 200k easy with servicing. Just find it such a shame that a gearbox could fail at 140k in my case. And i even serviced it at 60k then 100k

So on the mini, the engines are crap, clutches don’t last long, hearing gearbox problems, subframes rot, suspension is a nightmare to work on, overpriced brand new with costly repair bills, is it really a car you should be buying?

I've seen similar issues in Canada . Gear box ,chains and more. Thing customer don't want to repair it lol

Neaver had issues with our mini everything original eaven the front brakes had car 12 years .

Why did synchro go at less than 50k miles? Is it due to abuse such as changing down forcibly at inappropriately high speed?

No expert, but I thought the early Mk1s had Rover gearboxes that weren't good but then they switched to Getrag ones for Mk2 onwards.

My Mini Cooper S R53's gearbox was absolutely wicked. The gearshift was sharp and direct without any slop. I can't say the same about most cars I've driven.

These non British Minis literally are a POS.I,m yet to see anything good on them or something that doesn,t fail. Mighty Car Mods and Car Ninja hate them. One thing is for sure and that is that car don,t suit you Baz haha.
