How many solar panels can this take and what are the max watts for the panels
@Jasonoid3 ай бұрын
The fridge pulling 600 watts was most likely running the defrost process. It only does that every now and then. My older fridge does that same thing but it only runs the heaters for a couple minutes. You just got lucky with your timing. Usually compressor draw will be around 100-150 watts when running.

I'm glad I just read your post Jason. About 3 weeks ago, I had my kil-o-watt meter inline with my fridge and was shocked when I saw it pulling 495 watts! I'd never seen it over 120 before, normally around 105. I thought something must either be wrong with the fridge or the solgen. The next day, the voltage was back down to normal and for some reason I never thought about the defrost cycle!

That's good to know, Jason! I was told by a refrigeration mechanic that the new ones draw heat from the compressor for the defrost. I don't know how to verify that.

I just purchased the EcoFlow Delta 3+ w/ the 220w solar panel off their website for $961. On Amazon it would have cost me $1062! I noticed w/in a few hours the shipping date changed from late Oct/early Nov to late Nov/early Dec. In the midst of all these storms, seems like everyone is grabbing one.

I rent a small space in my landlord’s basement. I own 4 eco flow generators. Different sizes. I’m the kind of person who benefits from this kind of solar power because the house isn’t mine but I’m good to go with my eco flows! I’m a senior and I can only drag/carry so much weight! I’m secure with what I have. They easily take care of my 2 refrigerators, my freezer that houses my ice for my Icy Breeze air conditioner and as lil the rest of my needs. These generators are great for someone like me.

I think one of the issues is that people don't grasp these devices are a stop-gap measure, unless you can afford to go 'whole system' solar. Trying to limp along with them is fine, but solar panels, again, depend on a number of factors: peak solar vs the rest of the day, shade, clouds, what have you. Yes, they're much better than no power at all. But often the marketing is misleading. You're not going to be able to toss down a solar panel, and have this recharged in anything less than 'quite a while'. And it will be depleted much faster than most understand. I think everyone who can afford them should have them, because again, it beats no power at all. But for most of us, don't expect it to replace grid power. But if one does understand that, and doesn't waste power using them, it's another level of comfort, or need, in the case of medical equipment being powered. I do like the fact they're offering natural gas backup measures. But again, there's a limit to it. Straight gasoline generators go through fuel faster than many realize, as well. I have Ecoflow and another brand's solar generators, and they've gotten me through a couple 'grid down' events. But long term, I'd be hurting if my life depended on 'em.
@YouLookinAtMe-Bro3 ай бұрын
I believe most people who have them or are even considering them do consider those factors. I'm sure SOME blind buy and are uninformed from those simply making money promoting them.

I have the bluetti ac300 and two of their batteries. I live off grid in around 500sq ft. You’re right but there’s other small things… I have 3, 400 watt panels and have more than enough. My fridge is a 10cf fridge like an apartment fridge but has space. I replaced all my tools with the ryobi one+ so I charge about 8 batteries for them when the sun is in excess but can run my tools and stuff without depleting the bluetti. My 3 panels are on the ecoworthy solar tracker so it’s peak sun most of the time since it follows. I have no grid power at my homestead it was the little changes line the tools and fridge and stuff that make it work.
@fishcreekcountrygal98963 ай бұрын
@durgan5668 - Absolutely! I have a Yeti 1250 (Goal Zero) that I purchased a decade ago, thinking the solar panels would recharge at a similar rate that energy was being used 😆! I was shocked that it took 2-3 DAYS to fully recharge in full sun (with nothing pulling power/plugged in)! I live in an area where our power goes off at least once a month, so I bought a gas generator for running things that pull more watts, and only use my solar generator for recharging electronic gadgets. Solar marketing is very deceptive, but at least Kris explains the limitations better than they do!

In my experience (which is not a lot) sticking to the solar input voltage range is more important than the amps. I have a River 2 (which takes 110 watts solar). I always use my 240 watt panels and the unit limits the charge to 110 watts (or 8 amps). I think (I’m not qualified to think in the case) an MPPT is smart enough to work within its “amp” range. With this said, I hope EcoFlow does not read your comment in case I burn my River 2 😅
