The two tubes vs one tube, is to remove the negative pressure from and pulling the heat from outside into the van. Two tubes, you wouldn't get that negative pressure. It also cools better and more effective. It's the like a dual hose portal AC you put in houses. It also uses that exhaust to expel that vapor it removes too, so it's more efficient on getting that water outside instead of draining (in the cooling mode).

sorry but you're very wrong. It will absolutely not cool better by pulling hot air from out side and cooling it down. Turn your cars ac off recycle and see how well it works compared to with it on. An ac is always gonna cool more efficiently by recycling the air it's already cooled down so it doesn't have to work nearly as hard.

@c90adventures there isn't gonna be negative pressure with one tube cause it's then just recycling the air in the car you know like a window unit or house unit does and youre car also does this , if anything maybe a little positive pressure. Try turning off the recycle in your car in the heat of the summer it won't work very well at all compared to it on recycle.

@@WickedWaysfpv7087 I think you've just massively misunderstood how these work. If there's only one tube, and it's blowing air out of the car, there has to be negative pressure inside the car, simple physics. Normal car AC on recirc works like a two tube AC system. But here's a good video by Technology Connections showing why single pipe air conditioners are terrible, to help you understand it if you still need help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lV7Qc5iPeJd-fcUsi=EP3XGmNSbNtChdyp

Great video! I bought one last year for our 2006 Toyota sienna minivan and it works really well on a single hose, exhaust discharge only. I did this because of space saving and knew that if it did not work, I would just have to add the other hose. But that would take up more space, which we don’t have much of. Of course eco-mode works the longest but if you’re at 100° F, you’re going to use a lot of power. For the size vehicle we are in it heats and cools quickly. I will usually put it on max to get it heated up or cooled down quickly and then switch over to Eco mode to save the battery as long as possible. I bought the 1159 W battery and glad I did. You are not going to be running this on Max in a Texas summer and expect it to last all night. It will last about two hours on max at that temperature. We don’t stay in Texas in the summertime and head to the mountains, where it works really well too cool or heat. My ship battery is a 200 amp hour lithium but I try not to tap into that until the EcoFlow battery is drained. I like the app also. It’s nice not to have to get out of bed and just reach for your phone to change the temps. Pros: It works really well in a minivan size area. Nice app with a Bluetooth interface. Heavy but portable, almost 50 pounds with the battery. Cons: It’s a power hog! Expensive. Takes up some space. I am definitely glad I bought one and would not be able to survive some of the summer nights we spent that were warm traveling last summer. If I had it to do all over again on my minivan build, I would get a 300 or 400 amp hour lithium instead of a 200 amp hour battery. At the time of my minivan build, I didn’t realize I was going to need one of these units! Cheers!🤘

I am in the States too. I am learning as I go. I bought the Eco wave 2 , the battery and Delta 2 because I have four dogs with me as well. They have to stay warm and cool as needed when I am not in the van, plus of course I need to be able to Boondock when necessary. I have to get a window board now, and a dehumidifier . Any advice? I'm listening!
@Fast68
@Fast68 4 ай бұрын
@@kristykristine8657 If you have the room, install both hoses. The EcoFlow will dehumidify a small area like a minivan so you might try that first to see if it works for you. We do a lot of Boondocking also so just make sure you have a big battery bank(s) and plan for those cloudy days. And of course window coverings are an essential item. Keep that sun out in the summer and the heat in in the winter.

Understanding AC is often confusing. Ecoflow is quite useful as it is a true split portal ac. Most portable ac use an electric vaporizer like LG first did. Means switching between cooling and then venting moisture. So non split ac can’t constantly cool. Humidity is big factor in cooling. The traditional window unit ac has the compressor and radiator/heat exchanger on the outside. Any excess water just drips off to the outside. Meanwhile the fan usually pulls inside air which is cooled over the radiator then blown back into the room. Some units have an option to pull the outside in. Portable unit tend to be a single hose as they non split. So the exhaust and input tend come on one hose, which cool only half the time. It’s lot less efficient. If unit had dehumidifier mode, it would need a drip hose or after running for awhile the water trip test fills up and shutdown the unit. EcoFlow is really awesome as it a true split ac. Depend on how you set the hose and flow plates you can control where it input air and where it exhausts air. Note for off grid real ac cooling the unit does require the portable battery pack, otherwise it in fan only mode. It’s best mini portable ac currently produce. Between a generator or battery bank or Solar to its mini battery pack or ac plug. You got many options for any place. Vans. tents. Outside events. Room needing some extra cooling. It’s expensive. But worth it for its size and functionality.

I'm English too, moved to Australia in 1999. Last year I purchased a block of land in a remote inland area, and I have made a big concrete slab. This year (God willing) I'll buy a single-roomed cabin, which I will get craned onto the slab. I'm thinking of getting one of these eco-flow AC systems, as for 3 months out of every year its baking hot. I'm thinking of just asking the cabin manufacturers to make a cat-flap, so I'll just put the outlet through that! Thanks for the advise of not worrying about the inlet, - it makes sense not to be sucking in hot air from outside.

Great video! I'm strongly considering investing in one. Looking at the internal battery, 100% see what you're saying, but value for money wise an additional fogstar 280ah battery will cost about the same, but 3 times the capacity. Yes it means running the inverter at 85% losses, but still you're better off. The one thing I'm considering is having permanent ducts connected with proper outlets but can't see anyone doing this. Just trying to figure out the best way. Obviously the sides will have a lot of air movement while the van is in motion. The back would be better but I'm concerned that the run will be too far to reach the cab on a LWB sprinter. Would the floor be a good option do you think?

Yehhhh a small hate pump isn't a replacement for another heating soruce which doesn't require electicity and can work even work well when it's -15C, It's a nice addition so that overnight you can leave it running with less fear that it will start a fire or poison you and it uses your solar pannels so if you have spare elecrisity it is nice to be able to use a heat pump, and obviously during the summer it's nice to be able to not fry and in that application you are going to be getting plenty of solar to run it assuming you have like 600 - 800W of solar you can almost run it 24/7 because it will on average draw more like 200 - 300W because it will turn off and on as the tempeture flucutates.

The heater function produces tons of water so better figure out how to drain it.
@HaveYourADVENTURE
@HaveYourADVENTURE 17 күн бұрын
It took me a while to understand but it‘s true, the 2 tubes is always better than a one tube setup. What can be deceiving is the idea that with one tube the AC is getting colder faster because it is sucking already cold air in. But this is a deception and is not actually giving you a better result. The fact is, that air needs to be sucked into the AC and if the air comes from the inside of the room/car, then a negative pressure will develop and air will come into the room somehow, and that air will always be the hot air from the outside. So with the one tube, the air might feel colder faster, but the hot air will come into the room and the net result will be less efficiency compared to a two tube system. There is two reasons why the two tube system is better: firstly, if the one tube system is actually taking the cold air, then its taking that cold air away form the already colder room and some of it will be expelled again, and warm air will leak into the room. Secondly, the AC is creating that negative pressure and actually has to work harder to suck air out of the room, the more negativity it creates, therefore it has to use more energy to create the same results. In a two tube system, there will always be a pressure balance, and hot air will only come into the AC, never directly into the room. The AC then is well equipped to convert that warm air into cold air and expellees the rest out. Creating a more energy efficient cycle. I guess the main takeaway is that with an AC hot air will always come inside the room, but it is better to channel this hot air through the AC that is equipped for this and then keep a neutral balanced pressure with the room that it cools down. I hope that helped. It took me a while to understand myself. Cheers!

There are 4 vents on that thing. the front bottom has a filter and sucks in the air that gets cooled and then blown out the top front vent. The back bottom vent sucks air in that gets heated up and then vented out the top back vent. By sucking up the air in the back using the cooled air from inside, you are just wasting your energy as you are basically blowing your cooled air right outside. Edit: However, this could be useful on hot days where the outside temp is above some temp, I believe it's 105 degrees F, I don't know what that is in C.
@urbanarkoverland
@urbanarkoverland 7 күн бұрын
I don’t understand the point you are trying to make. You never blow cool air out the van. If you use two pipes. One sucks in fresh air and the other is an exhaust that rids the hot air created in the energy transfer
@VincentHarrydragonphire
@VincentHarrydragonphire 7 күн бұрын
@@urbanarkoverland The AC works with two loops connected by a heat exchanger. One loop draws in air to get heated up and then spit out. The other loop draws an air to get cooled down and then spit out. This means that the air that gets sucked in through the back does not get blown out through the vent in the front. So if you're sucking in air from inside your van through the back of the AC, that air is getting heat up and blown out the van through the exhaust. This would mean that eventually you're just heating up the air that you've already cooled down.

@@urbanarkoverlandthat is not how recirculation works in a car. There are is an evaporator and condenser in the ecoflow. One in the front and one in the back. The one in the front is recirculating the air in the van all the time. The way you have is set up is sucking your heated air into the unit and blowing it outside. It's not really debatable. That is a fact. You will loose efficiency the way you are doing it.

Two hoses. One hose is like pushing out your cool and dry air out and replacing it with warm humid air, as other have pointed out through negative pressure.

Lots of people on here not understanding how air conditioners / recycling works. The tube in / tube out system is a loop of air. This does the "cooling." Then a second loop (front vents) sucks in air from inside the room, runs it across something cool (made from the other loop) and blows it back into the room. Using 1 tube is not "recycling" or "recirculating" the air. This ALREADY HAPPENS through the front vents. Yes, using one tube would mean pulling in cooler air, to "cool down" on the tube loop, but also yes it will force air to be pulled in from all the cracks etc. of the van because of negative pressure. It's basic physics. Again, the "recirculating" is done on the FRONT end, and as the vehicle cools, it will mean it's pulling in cooler and cooler air to be recirculated. This is completely separate from the loop that the tubes are hooked up to. It's why an AC in your house has the condenser on the outside and evaporator separately, and only refrigerant tubes (not air tubes) run into your house. You wouldn't want to take the exhaust from your home AC unit and pump it back into the house. The air is RECIRCULATED inside your house through a SECOND loop which takes air inside your house, runs it over the chilled elements inside, cooling it, then spitting it back out into your house. You do not take air from outside the house, cool it, and blow it inside. All the air exchange happens completely outside of your house, and it's only refrigerant which runs through your walls. 2 loops. Same as the ecoflow. I'm sorry to have to say it, but one problem he has in this video is saying "well I saw a guy on youtube say it's fine, so it must be fine," and then essentially add his own voice to the chorus of bad / misinformation. That's just bad practice. Mfr. says to do it one way "but some guy on youtube who has a fancy logo and makes branded merch said not to" just isn't a smart way to do things.

Thanks for pointing this out. So, the question is, are there conditions in which it is advantageous to draw the exhaust loop air from inside the vehicle? I see, potentially, a situation where the temperature outside is, say, 80ºF and relatively dry but the solar heating in the vehicle is extreme. After running for a while, even with the exhaust intake in the vehicle, the air in the vehicle should be cooler than the air outside. Let's say the interior temperature is 70ºF with a target of 65ºF. Now, as the unit runs, it is bringing ~70º air into both the cooling and exhaust sides. As it does this, it is "sucking" 80º air into the vehicle at the same rate it is exhausting air to the outside. So there's a battle to further cool the current air while also bringing in warmer air. But, the cooler air running over the coils should make the cooling (exhaust) process more efficient, potentially prolonging battery life, and, since the compressor is inside the vehicle, it will lower the temperature inside the unit which does radiate some heat into the vehicle. I wonder if there's a temperature/humidity combination where a line can be drawn to determine when it's better to draw exhaust air from inside the vehicle vs. outside. Another factor is the volume of air going through each loop. If the volume used to cool/exhaust the unit is lower than the volume being cooled and recirculated back into the vehicle, there would be more advantage to keeping the exhaust intake in the vehicle. This could be accomplished through variable speed fans or louvers that adjust flow with temperature. Humidity throws another wrench into the equation as no one wants swamp air pulled into their camper.... If you come across any info/calculations on this, I'd be interested.

@@cbsammons I totally understand your question because it “makes sense” if you still misunderstand AC. It’s like this - There is always a flow of super hot air in and colder air out. If you pull it from “inside” the car, fresh air has to come from somewhere, so it’ll seep in through all the windows. It needs to be hot on one side and cold on the other or the entire thing will freeze. I suppose during that time, sucking in cooler air from outside (95 inside the car, 80 outside) has a side effect of also sucking 95 degree air out of the car…. What you’re saying makes sense. But it’s basically a really expensive way of just rolling the windows down. The logic seems backward I know. It’s like with a wood burning stove. A wood stove potentially makes the rest of your house colder because cold air from outside the house is being pulled in through the seams in the windows etc. and super-heated in the fireplace, going right up the chimney. So the very best place for a “vent” for a wood burning stove is right underneath it. A stream of super cold air from outside will rush in, be heated, rush out. A BYPRODUCT is that the stove gets hot and radiates heat. It can be improved by putting a fan by the hot fireplace. It’s the same concept as the two loops of the AC. I hope that analogy helps and doesn’t just make it more confusing hahah.

not sure why it's controversial about it recycling the cold air already inside instead of pulling air from out side and cooling it. Look at your cars it's always gonna get way colder recycling the air already in the car. Turn recycle off on the car and the air will immediately get warmer
