I stopped selling my things that I decided to part with. I give them away, usually on my local internet marketplace in the “Free” section and people are so happy to receive them! We end up having a nice chat and the exchange is a real gift. Sometimes the person wants to give me money but I refuse; and Sometimes the person picking up brings a small gift that they made!(pickles, chocolate! a plant cutting!) Wow! Removing the money from the transaction has been a gift.

This is beautiful! I love to give.away things also and find it brings me good energy to find things I need for free. If people want to give you money you can always suggest they pay it forward to someone else a different day to keep the good energy rolling 💜💜💜 blessings to you! 💫✨💫

Thank you for acknowledging the privilege portion of it! Especially when it comes to traveling/taking walks/hikes/exploring nature. Some of us are disabled and physically limited but still enjoy minimalism so we have to find our own ways to enjoy our lives outside of purchasing new items.

Agreed. My husband has a sickness that left him in a wheelchair now and we can't do much as a couple now outside like we used to. We set up a bird feeding station to watch together out the window. Money is so tight we don't have a choice but to be hyper frugal.

Dear Lia, every Thursday I feel like I am getting a present when you publish a new video 🥰 I agree 100% with everything you said today! Also for my son, I want him to feel happy and grateful when he gets something new and not take new things for granted.

You are so on the mark about excessive traveling leading to not remembering many amazing details of a given trip! I remember meeting up with a person who I had gone on a trip with who happens to be a frequent traveler. When I said "remember when so and so happened" they couldn't remember it and the saddest part was when they said that all their trips were blurring together.

Hi Lia. Underconsumption is a work in progress for me. I do have some furniture that is 40 years old and some of my clothes are 10 years old or older. However, like you say I get some happy hormones when I buy something new but that doesn't last long and then I'm back to where I started, so I need to buy something new again to get that rush. Shopping is an addiction like any other and it's hard to change your mindset about it. I have wasted so much money in my life on useless things that I later ended up giving away. It's crazy! You are an inspiration to me and I'm trying to learn from you. Thank you. ❤🌹

Such a good point about choice. I dated someone once who had grown up poor and he overindulged as an adult because he was compensating. I can't blame him. Whereas for me, with a decent amount of privilege, find it easier to generally underconsume (I can improve a lot) because I never had to feel like it was required. It feels more like an identity marker weirdly. Always enjoy your content, Lia. You're connecting me back to a younger version of myself.

Makes sense. Thank you for reminding me that things shouldn't be the only thing to make me happy. Listening from Trinidad and Tobago

Thanks for inspiring me to buy less. I find myself buying more at the grocery store than I need.

I am not a minimalist but I do feel happy when I haven’t bought anything because I have saved myself money. There are definitely benefits from not overconsumption 🙂

I barely buy things BUT it s very important to me to love my home and my stuff so I bought new things and created furniture out of old wood that had been throw away and made fancy stuff with it. This summer I bought clothes because… I ve always been TOO minimalist about clothes and had really at the end only 1 outfit! Until that moment I just gave my old clothes to the Red Cross but never replaced them. It was really a need FROM NOW to get cltohes more frequently because I refuse to look like a homeless. And as a slim dude I dont like second hand clothes because clothes that have been washed many times don’t look good on me. I try to buy ecological labels though. I ve decided that from now, getting older (44) I want nice clothes: not a lot but some and that completely suit to me. When you get older, your appearance gets worse and worse so nice clothes are important to compensate in my opinion.

Our kettle broke almost 2 months ago. But we have induction stove and boiling water on stove is maybe even faster. I'm loving it.

Such a good question and no, because I don't want my kids to go through an experiment I want to try for myself (something like that). On the other hand, of course I also don't buy too much for my son, I try to make all household purchases as sustainable as possible so my values count for everything but when it is a more "extreme" thing I want to do, I only include my family if they want 😊
