I guess we all know the feeling of wanting things. Just wanting something new, wanting something specific because we think it would make our life better, or maybe upon seeing an ad suddenly needing something we didn't know existed before.
In this video, I want to give you my thoughts and it's to learn to want less and how to understand ourselves better to navigate this feeling of wanting in the future.

I usually am a silent subscriber but I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated this video! I am 21 years old and I have been a minimalist for a few years now. As I started to get interested in minimalism my ethics also changed and I am a very picky consumer now. As I became more conscious about which things I want to buy I started to knit and make my own clothes and now I understand how much labour, time and effort is required to produce one garment. Making my own clothes deeply changed the way I see clothes and consumerism and every time I think about buying an item I think about all the work that is required to produce it and to take care of it and I started to appreciate every garment even more. when you change your perspective and become the producer instead of the costumer you really understand how precious your time and effort is. love from Italy!

I think that sitting with the discomfort of wanting is so important to learning how to overcome the impulse to buy. (Like you mention in your video)

Dear Lia, I truly enjoyed your insights on this topic... to me, I realized that the over spending was caused by being overworked... working so much and believing I deserved that new lipstick or whatever else... a tired mind... and yes, insecurity... You've nailed so many great points!! :)

I would love for you to examine the concept of psychological obsolescence. I think having an understanding how many resources are spent to entice us into consuming more and more can help us gain more self awareness about why we want more things. Also, it breaks the idea that society is just a bunch of individuals living mostly autonomously. Understanding that there is more to society helps us to recognize the pressures society place on us. I love your point about not helping the economy by buying. it does help the economy by buying because it increases GDP. it just illustrates what a terrible metric GDP is for measuring the health of an economy. this measurement surely contributes to why so many resources are used in order to get us to consume more and more. Again your content is always so thoughtful and nuanced.

Tip number 1....mind blown. Getting something or nothing, and how we really can get more with nothing! Intentional consumption key right there, thank you!

Love it! What a great message and reminder to us that we don't need to keep buying stuff. Being grateful for being alive and to consider feelings that things spark in us rather than buying stuff is a great tip. Great thoughts and tips I've not heard before! Thank you.

I do believe that what you have said makes a lot of sense and people should watch this. After a length of time of purchasing an item the novelty does wear off so it’s always a good idea to think before purchasing. Thank you for sharing this video.

Also a great message as always, thank you, Lia! (I'm 3 minutes in, but already get the point and agree with you)

Hi Lia, this is a great topic and your tips are very helpful. I love the idea that you don't just have something new or have nothing. Every choice comes with both positive and negative consequences. Gratitude is also so helpful to bring contentment. Noticing that an item is still serving me after a long period of time is something that I will be looking to do more often.

Being older it might have been easier growing up with no social media, and minimal tv and no cell phones ,I mean there have always been those that love a luxury lifestyle, my love Freddie Mercury loved his life of exquisite clutter, but now his things are on the auction block . I have always admired those like Mother Teresa and others that lived “ not of this world” owned a robe , a bowl a spoon and a pair of sandals , I love the freedom of not wanting , it is true freedom

I feel like food especially things like lunch and coffee are very hard. Also groceries in general. I didnt need much. Now I feel the need more to treat myself. So what I want is a skill that I am good at and stick with it for a long time. People around you inspire you but a lot is also wanting to fit in. That is just getting annoying. I would probably be a lot happier growing my own food making my own bread and live in a little home like people could when my parents where young. Its a scaresity mindset. We do not know what the future is going to be so now we have the money so we spend it now.

I enjoy music and podcasts, sometimes youtube videos and I like sitting on my balcony. I have less time then I think because I also own a book serirs I still need to finish reading, I have started wharhammer fantasy painting and a switch with animal crossing(this helps me relax) and we plan movienight with a beemer at home with my bf on suterdaynights(that is our date/movienight).

I struggle with this subject. I can't stop buying new things, mainly clothing. Somehow it happens that I ALWAYS come across something that I REALLY LOVE. Do these new things make me happy? YES! That's what your video doesn't cover. I get this new item and it brings me joy, I look in it exactly how I want to look, it is visually pleasing and represents me, who I am in a way that it translates my feeling of beauty, of how I want to look, and I feel beautiful in my new items, because they literally phsically tangibly put me in my esthetics = world of my soul, becase we are on physical level and to me it is important to live in my world, not some impersonal functional utilitarian world, but mine, which again needs to be pleasing on physical level. And it brings me happiness with myself, with the fact that I am wearing exactly what I want. Whereas, if I don't buy it, I go on with my daily routine constantly coming back to this new item that I want to buy, and I don't like this feeling, becase its like I'm depriving myself from what I truly want, and for whom is this ascetism then? To cut off watching sites, window shopping, checking up fav stores- I can't. What to do - I don't know. Want to buy less and be more towards how you are, but every month buy and buy new things, which is causing me financial difficlties, I don't have space, and all these things yo mentioned like caring for it and etc. Your video did not give me tools what should I do, and how to get my situation nder control.

I understand how you feel, I've been there. The truth is that what you want most wins, it's very hard to go against that. When we are enough fed up with our consumption we change it. But we also need to exchange that behaviour with something else, something active, for me it was sewing but it can be anything that interests you. And even then we need to use quite a bit of selfdiscipline to change, but it is so worth it. Shopping is an addiction and those are not easily overcome. Good luck!
