Nice to see some South African videos on KZbin. That DB however needs some tidying up.

Great video. I only finally understood how to program the switch after watching your other video. I have this model installed on my pool pump. How do I change the back-up battery. The clock does not retain the time after a power outage. With up to 3 power outages a day in South Africa, I cannot go and reset it after every outage.

Will do it soon. The timer by CBI astute
@chrisl60963 жыл бұрын
Does this have a battery? With numerous power outages with load shedding it now loses the time so when power comes back up the clock needs to be reprogrammed each time. It does not lose the programming. Thanks
@deejee603 жыл бұрын
I have the same problem. On the data sheet it says that time retention is 24 hours. After a 1 hour power outage the time was reset to 00:00. It does not look whether the timer can be opened to replace the battery.

@@deejee60 On investigating I found out it does not have a battery but a capacitor that takes on the role of a battery. I think it's called a "super-cap". I guess this degrades after a certain number of cycles and can't hold enough charge to keep the clock going. Definitely not a useful product where power failures and load-shedding is a regular event. I have not found a similar product that is "load-shedding proof", if you do please reply to this and let me know - I will do the same. Thanks.

@@chrisl6096 It makes sense as it is stated on the Installation guide that the timer has a backup power feature which requires 30 minutes to charge. I have spoken to our local supplier and he will send the timer to CBI to check. I see there is a, what appears to be a manufacturing date, on the timer ("MANF 2017W41" ... my previous one is MANF 2015W46). This means the first "super-cap" only lasted for about 2 years. We will hear from CBI whether these "super-caps" are covered outside the warranty/quarantee period. Will keep you posted,
@deejee603 жыл бұрын
@@chrisl6096 According to CBI the timer has a warranty period of 1 year from date of manufacture. I will "live" with this until replacement time. It looks like the Hellermann TDDGT timer is worth looking at. It has a 1 year backup battery. Can't comment on "load-shedding proof" though.

@@deejee60 Thanks Deon. I also found this that gives a bit more detail about the battery but they do seem to have similar specs wrt the backup battery. waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Digital-Geyser-Timer%2024H-7-Day-Timer-230V%20Brochure.pdf

On bypass the timer doesn’t power on some of the outside lights but when it’s on automatic it powers on all the lights. What could be the problem
