[EU S14 E32] Capitalism vs Patriarchy
On this week’s Economic Update, Professor Richard Wolff discusses the growing Labor movement and the nuclear disarmament movements in the United States; we will also examine the economic impacts of people under 50 not having nor wanting to have children; we highlight the UK Conservatives fearmongering claiming Free Speech is in danger from "cancel culture" and how anti "cancel culture" legislation was blocked by the new Labor gov't; We also discuss an Ohio court ruling that favors employers over the general public around boneless chicken that had bones.
Finally, we end the show with an interview with psychotherapist Tess Fraad-Wolff on gender, the patriarchy, and recent changes in capitalism.

Women and minorities??? Stop making a monolith of everyone because you're lazy. Most women, Caucasian women in America, have been very privileged. Those "minorities" from other countries get better treatment than the " minorities " born here and get most of the benefits from civil rights legislation Black Men died for.

I've always felt that the demographics that have historically been able to "fail up" in life the way others haven't are having a *much* harder time doing that now more that ever. Specifically talking about men, it doesn't look like we're taking it too well, broadly speaking. And a lot of the anger and resentment that comes with that gets redirected to the wrong places/people. We end up scapegoating "the others". People will place blame everywhere else than acknowledge the problems that capitalism creates.

I think men using women as an insult is more of a way of calling the other person weak. Which, of course, men do not want to be looked at as. It’s the reason men are not supposed to cry. Denying men the permission to be vulnerable has huge effects on their mental health.
@BlackIce675
@BlackIce675 Ай бұрын
90% of the time, it's women who are critical of male vulnerability. I don't know where you are or how old you are, but I don't see a bunch of men calling men women as an insult, but I see women calling men women or gay as an Insult . But you're not going to address that 😕

Step 1: Capitalism tries to put a price on everything spiritual, so that a prospect's earning potential is scrutinized more than personality. -After spending all day in mechanical toil, sex is misused for catharsis, not love. The lower wage earner has to make up the difference with sexual favors. Step 2: As class warfare ratchets even tighter, people take to new ideologies to psychologically presuppose the amount of dissociative vices they crave. -This is called "repressive desublimation." -Hegemonic hands foster a sub-group of pseudointellectuals who actually perpetuate divisions within the proletariat, accusing half the population of sexism. (People with little value in the "meat market" often build their identity here. Their rage may be the semiconscious realization of their OWN status as low-value products meant to dilute the labor supply.) Step 3: "Nobody wants to work anymore," so ~1/2 of companies use Democrat mouthpieces to draw in "human resources" from the Global South, which absolves them of developing the fertility rate (i.e., by way of improving living conditions). Not to be outdone, the other ~1/2 of companies use Republican mouthpieces to selectively co-opt Christian values, but only to secure those votes. The caricature of morality remaining (not wearing rubbers) coincidentally makes for great target practice. -Legal marriage is desacralized; alimony becomes a bounty on divorce. Kids get traumatized and lose stability, with lifelong consequences. -It turns out, it's more profitable to keep people isolated and families destroyed. Almost twice the living expenses, new childcare industry, etc.

My god could you imagine being a young man, being in need of serious guidance, his life going nowhere, chewed up and spit out by adolescence, with indifferent or even mildly abusive parents, both useless, broken adults with nothing to offer their child. And you're nineteen years old staring into the void, desperately trying to get your courage up and build your resolve to do something with your life.... And you got this woman as your therapist. Something like that should be illegal. Like literally against the law. But now all you gotta do is go to college, get your little degree and you can start taking clients.

The first time I heard this issue being addressed it was called Singapore syndrome, Singapore imports 30% of its labor, Singapore has been on this "road," for over 30 years now.1 child per household, even if they can afford to have two or three children they don't, very few social programs and daycare is something that's unheard of. America solves this problem in the US with their lenient immigration policies. In my opinion that's no cure,in fact that worsens the problem. The first thing the uneducated immigrant does is apply for food stamps, which is a federally funded program,pure tax dollars.

My father (the best dad of the world btw) once said: you can go to school to learn about anithing in the world you would like to be, except for becoming a dad or mom. He has got a point there. But the other side of the medal is: if we would have to learn it from out the books, we should have to ask ourselves: who would decide what and how it would be put into the books and maybe more so: WHO WOULD BENEFIT?!?! Look around and see WHO sponsors the universities? WHO decides the content of what goes into the books of the students?!? WHO pays the so called 'scientists'/professors who decides what students need to know to become a scientist?!?! And than the most important questions: WHO IS BENEFITTING FROM THIS ALL????? So the BEST solution to all s#it going around on this globe is what Gabor Maté says: HEAL YOURSELF AND BE YOUR OWN AUTHENTIC SELF! Than we are finally on our way to the ONLY MOST IMPORTANT STATE OF BEING: L❤VE!!!

Capitalism relies on the unpaid work women do in the home. Young women are beginning to catch on about what a scam this is. You make this enormous sacrifice to create a new worker/future tax payer which is a giant benefit to the economy and in exchange you have to flip the bill and you’re made super vulnerable if you decide to stay home.

It's not only women. Couples, more like - as much acting as potential. And it's not a single issue decision, more like everything - economy, culture, psychology, near-future projections and whatever other derivatives of general material condition you can think of - screams at people that "you are not needed", "you are alone", "everyone for themselves", "there is no future". It's not surprising that one would come to an actionable conclusion of not having children in such a situation.

A nice discussion. I'm an old white male.. I can't change this, I'm born white, born male , that's just a characteristic. That's not who I am. It says nothing about what I think or what I do as a person. I personally think that marriage is an archaic bourgeois construct. Just like ones "identity" which is another bourgeois construct. More to do with one's social and economic status than anything. This isn't going to stop the US from building more nuclear weapons to threaten China, Russia and North Korea with. Whatever the "identity" of your next president. Instead, just stop sticking your noses into other countries business. This will be a fantastic start.

You had the chance to build a familiy together with a man in your 20's, when you were young, beauitiful and healthy, have a child or two and build and grow together. But you obviously bought into the feminist delusion that you can do it at your own time, your own will and pace. Now you had nobody to catch you as the crisis hit you and your lost half of what you had build and so you lost and the man that could have be the father of your child lost too. It's sad indeed.

Thank you for realizing what I have been trying to say, the destruction of family in America and how capitalism (effective nature and ideology) affects this destruction. Feminism as it defines equality under the law is just, Feminism as defined by “me first above all” by an over privileged generation is not only unjust but is now visibly destructive to all,, since it affects all in the family. Now the new question to you is; When excess and greed have led to the division of family, how does the income gap between men and woman help further cause this destruction? Would more money to a housewife make her more responsible to her family and help her maintain the role of a traditional mother? Or would it make her more eager for greater wealth and more independence, thereby more alienated to her family? Let’s not kid ourselves; this is all part of our destructive path in our evolution. Professor Wolff is also of French ancestry and there is an old saying “How do you get us back on the farm after we’ve seen Paree?” “Paree like the internet is just an illusion and we will eventually have to go back to basic and frugal ways of living which made up most of our long previous human history minus the last half century. This reversal is now more important with the uncontrolled doubling of our global population in the last half century. Like a temporary feast for rats in granary, all our life preserving sustenance will, and is running out (recent wars). Our new system of increasing easy paid services to increased comfort levels and independence (mostly in america) by an increasing society of receivers versus providers cannot be sustained, quite like our planetary resources. We will have to go “back to the farm” someday soon or discover in times of crisis that we will not be able to survive on the simple services and acquisitions provided of our laptops and cell phones (Items which in themselves are not edible). (Reflection, by Guzziferno) Now, the exploitation of the American fathers is not mentioned here. The majority of men in this country work like indentured servants; they are not the micro fraction of men who control woman’s salaries and wages. They are the majority who work to secure their families and who lose children in custody battles (95% of separation’s) and income in support payments even if it renders them homeless. This is fact. “The exploitation of the American male by the American female would be a purely American affair were it not a [growing] model for women all over the world. Unfortunately, the economic hegemony of the U.S.A. influences not just the politics, science, research, and culture of all other capitalist countries but, to a great extent, the social behavior of their populations”- Esther Vilar “ONLY THE [TRULY] OPPRESSED have any real need of freedom. Yet as soon as they are free - and providing they have the intelligence to weigh their freedom against the possible consequences - this need changes. - Esther Vilar France also has a higher percentage of women who are dedicated to being mothers and wives.

Two comments. First identity politics cloaks material reality and the fact that women are exploited on the basis of our sex. Not some idea of woman. African-Americans are exploited on the basis of race not on some idea of what race is. Identity politics are dangerous because they cloak and lack a material analysis. Second, what wasn't brought up is the fact that job categories that become predominantly women and up having lower wages simply because those job categories have been feminized if you look at categories like nursing and office work for example, which used to be done by men, these jobs are some of the lowest paid jobs and weren't in the past. Where I work I am the only woman and the only office worker for example. All of the men started at higher wages, even though I had been there for 10 years. Raises are based on percentage so I will always be going backwards . We need to break down the idea of job categorization and market value owners rely on is market value. And when women enter certain job categories that market value decreases

@@teevee2145 you don't think the nation is a patriarchal, as women and girls continue to earn less, often be treated differently than men, have lost BODILY AUTONOMY and can be forced to carry rape and incest babies in fascist states, marry their abusers, etc etc?? It's funny to hear about equality of men and women in the 21st century. It's interesting to look at families that fight within themselves who is more important. This is idiocy. Everyone is important for their own function and application. This is called the symbiomatics of social relations.

Western women have become masculine, and men are not attracted to that. This is why men are traveling to other countries to find traditional women for wives. Leaving Western women very successful, independent, lonely and having lots of cats.

And with most men being non white and her reading so many books I guess she has us all figured out. Im sure you'll have some man come on to talk of women in the same dismissive fashion.... because he'd know how they feel .. somehow 🤷‍♂️
