Bangladesh has a troubled past, but it has been in a great position to grow dramatically in much the same way that its neighbour China has done in the recent past. Bangladesh is still a highly labour intensive market which makes it a great place to get T-shirts made, but a number of factors have made it painfully slow to develop beyond that. Could Bangladesh change things to become the next China?

As long as india is Bangladesh's next door neighbour there's little hope for Bangladesh or any country to achieve development let alone developed nation. india is like para.site & a bottom les mafiiaa basket which rob, looot, buIIy it's neighbours & steal other peoples wealth. .. how many people knows there are 50 miIIon iIIegaII indians workiing in Bangladesh which makes Bangladesh their(india's) Iargest remiitancee sender. but indians will always cry about how other nationals are coming to their fakiira country india which has no TOlLET. .. Whenever Bengal Subah/Bengal suItanate or MughaI Bengal were fighting to the european invaders the hidu petty kingdom (like shiibazi & like modi right now) would betray the native people & fight/work for those europeans invaders like shibazi did for the britisherrs against the mughals. .. shibazi & Jagat Seth(money lender) is the single reason for the demise of the wealthiest kingdom on earth the Bengal to fall to east india company. .. irony is still those hiduus didn't get the listen. . now [resent day shibazii is modii, amit shah, &YUGI gong & the present day jagath sheth is ADANl. .. Bangladesh will once again retain it's old glory back after current bangladesh iIIegaII government awmi leg & shek hasna fall & when Bangladesh cuts/disintegrate india into pieces. ... As a Bangladeshi, I agree somewhat with this video. We have done way more than what was expected of us. We are a model nation of how to get out of abject poverty. But there is a long way to go if we want to compete with the big boys. What I disagree is that this video paints a very grim picture. Its not that bad. Also, we did not separate from Pakistan because of a cyclone, we separated because of genocide by the Pakistani Punjabis.

As a regular viewer of EE and as a 21 year old Bangladeshi I confirm that, a lot of young people have given up the hope that we're going to see a real change in our lifetime, seeing the shear amount of corruption, pollution and chaos around us, most of the university students just want to leave this country anyhow by getting a scholarship abroad after undergraduate. And there's no doubt that we've been lied to about the growth vs inflation, the average Bangladeshi has to do very difficult maths when shopping for something as necessary as daily groceries now, and It's not an exaggeration, practically any Bangladeshi can relate.

@@_aidid real development of bangladesh will begin when they stop taking lessons from the west that 'democracy' is the best virtue. none of the developed western countries, and even eastern countries, developed using democracy. every single one of them were either imperial powers or authoritarian military governments and used those paradigms (and colonial resource extraction) to develop their own countries. it's only _after_ achieving high development, they slowly transitioned to democracy (some didn't even do it properly, only on the surface). but now they force democracy and 'freedom' to underdeveloped countries because they know it's the most manipulatable and exploitable system for their own corporate and political class. the losers are the ordinary bangladeshis, and increasingly in recent times, also the ordinary people of western countries!

Something that I would say was overlooked here was about geography (I am from Canada so I don't know that much about other aspects of the country). Bangladesh looks like it has loads of natural harbours and really good water access. It is central to the population of the planet with China, India, SE Asia, Indonesia all nearby. So rather than taking resources up a river like the Mississippi, St Lawrence, Yellow or Yangtze, it would always be much easier to go and deliver raw materials to the Bangladesh coast, manufacture it there and then ship it out to the world. If it works for t-shirts, it can work for cars, ships, and every manufactured good. Lowering shipping costs is key to so many industries and Bangladesh is in a prime position to capitalize on that. They also have the man power to boot. It looks like a country full of great potential to me

The history lesson was very charitable to Pakistan. West Pakistan effectively sponsored a genocide during its occupation of East Pakistan and its war for independence. In attempting to break the Bengali desire for independence, Pakistan murdered hundreds of thousands and displaced tens of millions, targeting the most educated and productive citizens of Bangladesh. Effectively, Bangladesh started not with a "Brain Drain", but a "Brain Murder" that made it very difficult for it to develop after independence.

Regarding 3:40 When talking about "life expectancy" it might be an idea to talk about the inefficiencies of the metric towards singular events, like natural desaster and short wars. In my humble opinion "life expectancy" is trying to measure the long-term quality of life. Singular type of events like the aformentioned don't seemt to fit this category very well, unless it's long term and recurring. You see this by the "life expectancy" goint smoothly back to the trend it was on before 1970, so the dip doesn't tell you much about the quality of life (which seems to have been unchanged afterwards), but the age and amount of people dying from that specific event. Might be an unnecessary overcomplicationg for the viewership though, as the metric is a statistically interesting approximation, due to the difficulties in measuring it.

Certainly, in our current circumstances, we have to consider many factors. We have faced numerous challenges as a suppressed nation for centuries, but we are still striving to do our best. However, we should focus on diversifying our economy and striking a balance between our export and import ratios to emulate China's success. In addition, stabilizing the political situation in our country is also important, as is one of the essential steps towards achieving pure development.

ETFs offer exposure to a wide range of assets, such as stocks, bonds, or commodities, which can help reduce risk.
